Table tennis on the DS! Balls of Fury - and it's not bad!

...This review is for the Nintendo DS game, Balls of Fury, developed by Black Lantern Studios and published by Destination Software. The game is a table tennis game, with numerous options and challenges to work through. It?s easy to start learning how to play the game, but it can take some time to perfect all the special moves which are available in the game. These are called power moves, and do take some practice to get right. However, for those new to the game, there are three difficulty levels to choose from, and you can get right into playing the game using the easy mode. The two screens of the DS do suit this game quite well, as the top screen is your opponent?s half of the table, and the bottom half is your area of play. You use the stylus to control the ball and its direction. The controls slightly surprisingly do work quite well...

...I've always preferred the more Arcade-ish Virtua Tennis to the more tennis sim game Top Spin, so when Virtua Tennis 2009 was released I bought it on the release date. - Gameplay - The gameplay is virtually identical to the original Virtua Tennis, with the main change being instead if diving for a shot just out of reach - you now stumble at it. There is no flat shot, which leaves with only slice, top spin or lob - which is a bit disappointing. It's very easy to get the hang of the game, as all you have to do is either use the directional buttons or the analogue stick to get you to the ball then press one of the action buttons to hit it. You don't have to get your timing perfect or anywhere near it, but if you do you will play a better show. - Graphics - The graphics in this game are shocking...

ANYONE FOR MONKEY TENNIS?

When you complete a mission you unlock another theme as well as the character from the section you have just completed so you can play as that character in other sections. The goal is to complete all sections and unlock all of the sixteen characters to play with. Each character has its own strengths and weaknesses; some are better chosen for their speed while other are slower, but pack much more power into their tennis strokes. Part of the game it determining which characters are best suited to any particular mini game or tournament and using their strengths accordingly. Characters also have super powers in keeping with their original games, for example AiAi from the Super Monkey Ball series of games throws bananas at you and curves...

...I have a small home so when I needed a new vacuum cleaner I chose the Dyson DC24 which is a smaller version of the standard model. It cost £189.99. I was expecting almost a child sized vacuum cleaner but there is not really much difference at all. It was so simple to put together, there are peel off stickers on the unit to explain things as you go. It only took me 5 minutes to have it assembled. The ball makes vacuuming effortless, and the head of the vacuum is narrow so its easy to get under the sofa, low tables, etc. It has strong suction as you would expect from a Dyson but it is surprising how full the cylinder is when you have finished. It really gets everything up. This does mean however that you need to empty the dust cylinder quite frequently. The power cable is short and not retractable which can look a bit untidy if it is...

A Smashing Tennis Title

Advantages: Simple to pick up, plenty of characters to play as, multiplayer
Disadvantages: Not so great on your own

...GRAPHICS Anime style character designs and courts which go beyond (Namco) grass/hard/court, so there's the sea, sand, and swimsuits of the beach, and in the shrine, the umpires in their kimonos outside the dojo. The courts do play differently, and on the Mountain the ball falls from a great height. AUDIO Only (overhead) smashes and aces - and not necessarily big points or great rallies - tend to be acknowledged by the audience which, depending on the court, is not just limited to people! There is use of reverb when playing on one court, but no music plays throughout a match. CHALLENGE Computer controlled opponents only fault (and double-fault) on the rare occasion, but they are beatable, and can be aced (!). Winning the tournament - whether this be singles or double - is not long-winded as matches are single set, and passwords help...

It is very similar to the Will Ferrell/Jon Heder ice skating comedy 'Blades of Glory' in that it is very very stupid, involves a former sports champion who has lost his way and a journey to regain his honour and name? well kind of! Randy Daytona was twelve when he was at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. He was the red hot favourite for the table tennis gold and America's darling. There was no way he was going to lose, unless something made him nervous or distracted him. His father did just this by telling him he had bet a fortune on his son winning with the local Triads. Faced with this Daytona fell apart and not only lost but embarrassed himself the world over. 18 years later Randy still plays, but not competitively. Now he is a table tennis entertainer...

These pellets do not contain soap, so they are kinder on the environment, your clothes and your washing machine.
