Advantages: Breathable fabric keeps cool in the heat and warm when it is cooler Disadvantages: It is quite weighty and quite expensive
...I turned to camping rather late in life, only a year or so ago, with an escapade to the Isles of Scilly with my sister. While the trip and the islands themselves were fantastic, my cheap tent certainly was not. I had the bug though, and despite working in the hotel game, I found a real buzz from being able to book a week?s holiday for the princely sum of £6 to £8 a night. On return to the mainland, and armed with a £200 donation from my father in law, we set about searching for a tent.
We quickly stumbled upon the Outwell Classic range of tents, as the local Yeomans camping store in my village has a vast display. I also have to admit I was somewhat seducted by the names of their tents, Bear Lake, Wolf Lake, Indian Lake, Norfolk Lake, Trout Lake ? all conjuring up images of camping in the Canadian wilderness with only a fishing rod...
Advantages: easy to put up, quality, size inside, price Disadvantages: size when stored, no porch.
...I already own 2 "normal" tents, but went on a 7 day bike race where i needed to put up and take down the tent 7 days in a row. I splashed out £45 for a "pop-up" tent. The thought of it errecting itself was very appealing!!
Sceptical at first, I popped the tent out of it's bag and pegged it down with 4 pegs.....job done......in about 60 seconds. I couldn't believe it could be so easy!!!! Once the tent is up it is like any other, with an inner and outer sheets (don't go for the cheap single skin ones). It has vent to help reduce condensation, although some did form, but then i've never been in a tent where there was no condensation!!!
The one I have is a 2 man version which accommodates 1 person + luggage with ease and would accommodate 2 people with some luggage.
This tent took on some heavy rain and wind in the 7 days i was...
Advantages: Takes 2 people - and their luggage Disadvantages: Needs 2 people to put it up
...After spending several weekends traipsing around camping shops this turned out to be the tent of choice for a couple who like a bit of space.
Ignoring the specifications - this is a 2 person tent. There's enough room for a tall man and for a woman who's brought her entire wardrobe on a camping trip - and let's face it, we all know that happens on most trips.
Nearly didn't buy it as the wind was blowing when I viewed it outside the shop and it didn't seem very stable, but as it was marked down to a bargain price I went ahead - and have had no regrets. The tent is very stable when put up and pegged correctly.
Not suitable as a 1 person tent as it takes 2 to put it up. Once the poles have been threaded through you'll need one person to stand inside the tent holding the canvas up while the other person runs around the outside...
Advantages: Spacious and strong Family sized Tent Disadvantages: Its not an Hotel
...Outwell Nevada XL Tent.
A new range for 2007 but we were very lucky to pick one up at knock down bargain price, Three times year our local camping stockists, put a show on, of there goods at our local Forest Park, and the tents that are on display, are available at the end, at a vastly reduced rate.
And we picked it up for £147.00. Including a few extra's.
It was nearing the end of the season for camping, as the weather was getting cooler etc, but see-in my brother and his family also purchased a bargain at the same time, we decided to shoot of the following weekend, for a week in Aberystwyth's Cerdigan Bay, or as we now fondly now it as Tornado Alley.
Considering we had never pitched this tent before, we found it quite easy to put up, Three equal length durable poles provide the frame of the main body, with another pole...
Advantages: nice thick bed for camping, inexpensive Disadvantages: heavy, needs reinflation
...grudgingly relented, "Well, you can carry it then."
What remained now was to find the best option (my main concern- weight. His- price). Various airbeds were assessed and discarded, until, I saw it, sitting nonchalantly on a shelf- the Outwell Classic Flock Double Airbed with buit in pump! I picked it up, it didn't feel any hevaier than some of the others we had looked at, and they had all required that we blow them up using only our lung capacity, or that we bring along a pump, which would take up valuable backpack space and add additional (albeit minimal) weight to our packs. I presented my offering to my companion, "and (at 20 pounds) it's cheaper than the others!" He surveyed the box, noting the dimensions (191 x 140 x 23). It would fit easily inside our tent, it was just about long enough to support my lover's height, and, while it was 10...
Advantages: Durable. Spacious. Easy to erect. Bright & airy. Disadvantages: None apart from being heavy (but it is a large tent!)
...introduce you to our holiday home - the Outwell Colorado 8 tent. (Don't confuse it with the Vango Colorado 8 which is a different tent)
STYLE
The Colorado is what is known as a tunnel tent - because it is tunnel shaped. Tunnel tents come in a variety of designs, usually with an entrance at one end, or on either side. Sometimes they even have all 3 options! The bedrooms are made up of an inner section with built in ground sheets and insect netting (a big plus point for me!) which hooks up to the outer section via a toggle system. Depending on the number of berths, the bedrooms are usually located at one, or both ends, with a large living area in the middle. The Colorado 8 (as it's name indicates) is an 8 berth tent. Family size tunnel tents tend to have good headroom in the bedrooms and living area. Sun canopies can be bought as...

Review of Outwell Colorado 8
Advantages: Lots of space for everyone. Disadvantages: No longer made.
...The Khyam Michigan 12 was only made in 2007 so can be hard to come by now. But if you are after a large, well set out tent, and you find one of these then grab it whilst you can.
The tent is an outer pitch first, or all in one. Personally we leave the inners in place which reduces the pitching time.
The tent itself is large and can be difficult and heavy to put up. Saying that I am under 5ft and have limited mobility so if me and hubby can put it up between us then I'm sure others could easily. We have reduced the pitching time to around 30 - 45 minutes now, which is not bad considering. One good thing though, is that although the tent is large it still fits on most pitches so no extra charges.
The tent has 3 inners. All or some can be removed if wanted. The largest is 6 berth. This is used by our 4 children and is just big enough...
Advantages: A fantastic story Disadvantages: Quite female focused, not really a bloke book.
...When (if) you read the bible, you often come across characters that pop up only once, and are in the spotlight for a moment, and then disappear again... but you suspect they have more story to tell than is recorded. For example, the story of Joseph (and his 'technicolour' coat) is famous, but what do you know about his only sister?
Nothing? Yeah me too! Until I read this fantastic book.
Anita Diamant takes the story of Dinah, mentioned only in passing in the bible, and develops it. The result is largely an imaginative work of fiction, however, it is deeply rooted in information from other sources. For example, Joseph's time in Egypt is included, and other stories about Jacob, such as his difficult relationship with his brother Esau. The Red Tent is therefore deeply plausible as a narrative. There are no details that jar, or suspend...
Advantages: Just a cool looking, well designed and functional tent. Disadvantages: None for me.
...With T in the park weekend over and a great time had by all, I thought I would review the tent that was my home for the weekend. The tent in question was a Confidence Mars 4 Man Waterproof Dome Tent and although it is a 4 ?MAN? tent there were only me and my two girlfriends staying in this one (well that?s my story and I am sticking to it)!
Now I am no camper so I cannot really give too much comparison between this tent and any other except to say it was worlds apart from the old tents I used to camp in as a kid. This tent has one separate bedroom compartment with zippers which would have been useful if any of us had picked up some guy and needed a bit of privacy (BUT WE DIDNT)!!
It also had air vents so whilst being completely waterproof it did not become sweaty and therefore wetter inside than it was out, possibly the best thing...
Advantages: Very easy to store, easy to assemble, gives kids hours of fun Disadvantages: None
...We brought our son a pop up playtent from a mail order catalogue, just over a year ago, and he just loves it.
It is an action man tent, very safe and well made, and he often plays with it for hours, either in his bedroom or out in the garden (weather permitting).
He has even slept in it on some nights (in his room).
The good thing about these is that they are very real-like, and with one twist they are packed away! So, for something that took up loads of room one minute, has now been slid under the bed, or hung up in it's carry case behind the door.
I have now seen that they make an assortment of these play tents, and they range in price. The action man tent has remained the same price (19.99), but prices now start from as little as £14.75 for the smaller person.
Recommended age starts from 3, although playing...
