Resized and Perky thanks to Rigby and Peller!

Advantages: Fantastic service, lovely lingerie, accurate measuring service
Disadvantages: Very expensive, somewhat intimidating, lack of products on display

...It’s getting ever closer to my wedding day (October 2004), and as I have a fitting for my dress in early September, I had to start thinking about underwear. Those of you who’ve done the whole wedding dress thing will understand, for those who haven’t, let me explain… Basically, when you get your wedding dress fitted, you should be wearing the underwear you’re planning to wear on the big day. This is so you can check that there aren’t any straps showing in unexpected places and so on. Nothing too arcane about it, honest! Not one to get upset at the thought of shopping, I floated off up to London, credit card clutched in my sweaty little hand, ready to hit the shops. And, since it’s my special day (or will be in a few months time), where better than to spend my hard-earned than at Rigby...

Rigby and Peller - luxury and sexy!

Advantages: QUALITY and OVERALL SERVICE
Disadvantages: arguably the price

...I recently bought my girlfriend some underwear from Rigby and Peller and it was a great experience! Website: The website is easy to use and gives a great description of their vast range of underwear. They are fast to reply to e-mails and are only too keen to help with any questions, whatever they may be. The checkout system works perfects and they do not over charge for gift wrapping and delivery (in fact I think it was about £3 it total). It was delivered in three days, which is perfectly reasonable and was very well presented in the ideal box with tissue paper. THE UNDERWEAR: Excellent. I wanted my girlfriend to just have a luxury set of every day underwear. This is now what she has...it is incredibly well made and not that I know much about it, am told that it offers incredible support and shape etc. Cost: This is obviously...

Terence's Greatest Hits!

Advantages: Some good hits
Disadvantages: None

...Most people tend to think of "If You Let Me Stay" when they think of Terence Trent D'arby (or whatever his new name is, I'm ashamed to say I'm too lazy to learn how to spell it). He lives in Italy now and has huge hits in Europe but hasn't been in the UK for some time; in between work he's also even fronted INXS after the sad death of Michael Hutchence. This collection was released in 2003 and was the first ever proper collection of hits and rarest recordings. 1. Wishing Well 2. If You Let Me Stay 3. Dance Little Sister 4. Sign Your Name 5. Elevators & Hearts 6. Heartbreak Hotel 7. The Birth Of Maudie The Incredible E. G. O'Reilly 8. This Side Of Love 9. To Know Someone Deeply Is To Know Someone Softly 10. Billy Don't Fall 11. It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding) 12. Do You Love Me Like You Say? Edit 13. Delicate...

FREE DVDs

Advantages: Free trial, large choice, post included, new realeases
Disadvantages: see review

...I like movies and I like freebies, so when you get offered both in one swoop you?re bound to accept! I used my two week free trial with this company and remained with them for a couple of monthsbefore moving on to try many other companies free trials (and winning a new DVD player on Tesco DVD rental site on their free trial offer). I then had an email from DVDs 365 asking me to go back, and offering me a free DVD if I did so. I had just left Tesco (with my new DVD player) so I chose to go back with them. ∆◊◊ THE SERVICE THEY OFFER ∆◊◊ Basically it?s like going to a video shop and hiring films on DVD, except you don?t pay for each film you chose ? rather a monthly fee for which you can watch as many movies as you can fit in, for us this is usually around 8 a month (2 a week usually weekends...

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. All the components such as cables, remote and manuals were well presented in their own protective plastic bags, to keep them protected. The player...

Terence Fisher's Phantom

Advantages: Impressive production values and a sound cast
Disadvantages: A compromised effort that didn't ring at the box office

...Perhaps the most neglected of the high profile screen adaptations of Gaston Leroux's novel, Hammers 1962 production is actually a rather impressive film. Afforded a luxurious 10 week shooting schedule and a budget of £171,000, Hammer's Phantom went before the camera's in late 1961. Intended as a first run feature, as opposed to a double-bill picture, Hammer's intentions are very evident on screen. It is a film that looks to have been put together with great care and attention, and really belongs to Hammers first cycle of gothic chillers. Directed by Terence Fisher, and with a script from Tony Hinds under his pseudonym of John Elder, 'Phantom' is closer to Leroux than either of the previous cinematic efforts, and is an undeniably entertaining and quite moving picture. Fisher, whilst loving the horror genre, had always wanted to...

Are vases truly a cure for loneliness...

Advantages: Compelling, thought-provoking and fantastic one-liners...
Disadvantages: The neatness of the solution...

...If Eleanor Rigby poses a 'problem' its problem is loneliness. As evoked by the title, Coupland's novel is about the void that being alone presents us; all of us, at one time or another. Its protagonist, Liz Dunn, is a 36 year old single woman living alone in her spinster's condo, without friends, a social life, or a vase full of flowers to validate her existence. It is almost impossible not to empathise with Liz (and surprisingly I did so from my position as a 22 year old woman with a boyfriend). But, I think Liz's plight speaks to us all. Don't get me wrong, this novel is not a serious tome about the insurmountable difficulties of living in isolation from the rest of the world; its funny. Very funny. In an understated way. Generation X - Coupland's earlier and altogether more iconic work, is funny in a deliberated manner. But...

Flying Penguins!

Advantages: Good fun book
Disadvantages: None

...read this on his own now. The book has nice bright illustrations on every page and there is always a lot going on in the background to them. The writing has been put on plain white sections of the pages so it is easy to see. The book takes only about 5 minutes to read but we find talking about the pictures and especially trying to find objects inside the cover makes the book last longer. This book was written and illustrated by Rodney Rigby and was published by ABC in 1992. There is no retail price on the back of the book and we picked our copy up from our local book shop in an offer of 3 books for £5.00. This is available to buy on Amazon so do shop around for a bargain. I recommend this book to all children who like penguins or just fun books. I am reviewing the hardback edition of this book and not the audio as ciao have...

FREE DVDS

Advantages: up to date dvds, four weeks free hire with 3 dvds at a time,
Disadvantages: see review

...My recent quest for FREE DVD hire I visited and many DVD web sites that offered a free trial. Now call me tight (no that wasn?t an invite), but I like bargains and freebies and am not ashamed to say so. My quest took me to enough sites to hire DVDs for about four months so far (with plenty to come too). My latest free DVD site also happens to be the best I have tried for several reasons (see rest of op); the site in question is Blockbuster.co.uk. Other sites that I have had free rentals from and then cancelled have all been similar, two weeks free trial with two DVD?s per time ? which in effect gives you about four free DVD?s. With Blockbuster?s things are different slightly ? which add a great deal of benefit to us the customer. Firstly, you get FOUR whole weeks free rental, which equates to at double the length of time most...
