...HEATHER NOVA - SIREN Most of you are probably wondering who this girl is? A cross between a soft rock Sheryl Crow and an innocent Alanis Morissette without the whiny voice. She's a chick with a guitar, so far so good right? Wait though, there's more to her then that...her voice is angelic, it's the sweetest voice I've ever heard in rock, her music is breathtaking, she covers all subjects in all of her albums from domestic violence to dreaming of love, you may not of heard of Heather Nova but after reading this Op you will be begging to go out and buy one of her albums...she is another one of my favorite singers, I met her a few years back at a gig she did in Norwich and she was so laid-back as she is on the album, a talented songwriter who can teach Alanis a thing or too! Advantages: Superbly written album
Disadvantages: may blur into one at first listen

...Heather Nova’s ‘Storm’ is by far one of the very best albums of the 21st century so far. I’m going to have to work hard to justify such a grand statement, but I truly believe this, so it shouldn’t be too difficult. I know in the past I’ve written reviews lauding albums which I did really like at the time, rating them at a maximum five starts when really they did not deserve this (Atomic Kitten and Hear’say spring to mind) but I was young and impetuous then. Nowadays I realise that it’s got to be a really special album to deserve such a high rating, and in my opinion Nova’s latest release is well worthy of this. I am absolutely in love with this album, due to its simplicity, passion and stylish bravery, and sincerely hope that this op will encourage people to give it a listen. ...Ah yes, another female singer of mine who no-one has ever heard off. Heather Nova is a very talented singer-songwriter who I personally think is very under-rated. Oyster is Heather's 2nd album and her best she has ever done. It's soft, gentle, moving and will take you on the most emotional ride you have ever been on. Oyster is without out a doubt, one of my most favourite albums ever and I'm thankful that I discovered Nova's music... WALK THIS WORLD Nice up beat song which starts with a funky bass line and a repeated guitar picking away in the background (Nova picks her strings most of the time, which I think sounds great), the drums are lightly banging away in the background. Advantages: Brilliantly written.

...Heather is not a huge star, and in my opinion is one of the most underrated artists of the last few years. This is the follow up to the raw, sensuous album 'Oyster', which screamed quality. 'Siren' is perhaps not quite as good, but in no means a bad album, in fact it's pretty amazing. The only slight critisism, which is what makes it less good than it's predecessor, is that has a glossy production, which is all very well, but it takes away the impact of Nova's lyrics and music. It does give it a nice polished feel though. London Rain- This is a top quality radio track, and was included on the dawson's creek sound track. But do not be fooled into thinking it's a teenage angst campfire stylee song, it actually has some depth and mereley shows Nova's more commercial side. Blood of Me- This is a quality track! ...Heather Nova is one of the best singer/songwriters of the past generation. Why? Because she can write an album without a single track you'd want to skip. Because she writes songs that are *hugely enjoyable* feelgood material as well as the more serious stuff. Because she kicked most of the rest of the Lilith Fair crowd into touch by rocking them off the stage (the only exceptions being Sarah McLachlan, Lisa Loeb and Sheryl Crow who were also exceptional) Heather's most recent album (although it may not be when you read this, as a live album is imminent) is a masterpiece. Opening with the pop-rock anthem "London Rain" (as heard in Dawson's Creek <x> hundred times), it's clear we're in for a treat. Advantages: relaxing, smooth and beautiful
Disadvantages: out of place titletrack, but the album is so relaxing in places that makes you sleepy!

...This album by Heather nova was released in 1993 by v2 records as her first album, following the EP These walls. It opens with bare; a drone background and guitar, Heather introduces her aspiration with the lyrics "I want to live where the sky is big, simple and free." Her voice is truly beautiful, and has been compared to what Tori Amos would sound like if she had voice training. The first track ends with a conversation between two children....it's worth listening to. The second song My Fidelity, follows in the same vein, haunting lyrics above a gently strummed guitar and strings as we are shown an excellent example of lyrical honesty and emotional expression found in too few musicians these days.
