Terracotta Tan
Review of Guerlain Terracotta Bronzing Powder No. 10 by
mfdecarli1
Advantages: well, you get tanned
Disadvantages: you might end up looking like the Terracotta chinese army
...natural color (don't expect miracles). The quality of the powder is excellent as I have been using for years without a single allergic reaction. The smell is not unpleasant which is important for any beauty product. The durability is also notable as this bronzing powder usually lasts all day without sweating off, even during hot summer days.
It is very important to layer your tan, instead of only highlighting cheekbones, in order to produce a smooth combination of colors. The choice of correct foundation is important as well as finishing touch to enhance the Guerlain terracotta bronzer. Also, if you do not have the proper brushes or do not know how to apply bronzer, do not buy this product. It is not an easy to use bronzing powder and requires previous knowledge to actually look presentable. If you feel you are skilled, the bronzer may...

The life and death of Qin Shihuangdi
Review of The First Emperor (China's Terracotta Army), British Museum by
MAFARRIMOND
Advantages: An amazing opportunity to view artefacts from the tomb of China's First Emperor.
Disadvantages: Limited amount of artefacts. The crowds!!!!
...The arrival of a small delegetion from the First Chinese Emperor's terracotta army to the British Museum in London generated great interest. Over the past six months, thousands of tourists have invaded the samll space of the museum's reading room to get a glimpse of elaborate warriors standing on guard.
The exhibition, simply entitled The First Emperor: China's Terracotta Army, has been in London since 13th September 2007 and runs until 6th April 2008. Over 100,000 pre-booked date / time tickets have already been sold for the exhibition and approximately 1,000 bought each day at the door.
Most if not all of the visitors to the exhibition have heard of and are eager to see something of the vast and magnificent terracotta army. Most though (including myself) were not fully aware of their history or that of the First Emperor, Qin...

The Terracotta Warriors
Review of General: Xi´an by
gard
Advantages: The terra-cotta warriors, the city wall around Xi'an itself
Disadvantages: Cabs like to use fixed price, people don't speak English
...A short summary
This is a travelogue about the trip that my wife, Nikki, and I took to China (Beijing, Xi’an and Hong Kong) in the period from March 15th to March 29th 2003. We first spent 7 days in Beijing and we got to see the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, the Summer Palace and so on. From Beijing we took an overnight train to Xi’an and our main goal there was to see the Terra-Cotta Warriors but we also got to see a few other things. And from Xi’an we flew to the city of Shenzhen and from there we took the boat to Hong Kong (HK), where we stayed for about 5 days. In HK we visited Ocean Park, Victoria Peak, the Space Museum and so on.
We first stayed in Beijing for a few days (see seperate review). But time went fast in Beijing and all of a sudden we had reached Saturday March 22nd. We had decided to take...

A real sense of history.
Review of The First Emperor (China's Terracotta Army), British Museum by
TheWizardsSleeve
Advantages: Superb sense of history, close up view
Disadvantages: crowds
...***Background***
It doesn't seem six months ago that we heard that The Terracotta Army was to leave the shores of China for the first time and take up temporary residence in The British Museum. This was an opportunity that simply could not be wasted as this exhibition may never find it's way to these shores again. We therefore booked tickets on-line and had a wide choice of availability in terms of time slots/dates given we were booking so far in advance.
Tickets cost £12 adults/child under 16 free so for 5 adults and a child it cost £66 including booking fee. Booking was a very simple process and all tickets are for a timed entry slot (ours was 11:30, Sunday 23 March 2008). However, given the exhibition is nearing an end all advanced tickets are sold out although up to 500 tickets (Monday - Friday) or 700 tickets (Weekend...

Another Love Story in a Bottle
Review of Guerlain Mitsouko by
TheChocolateLady
Advantages: Sophisticated scent that isn't overpowering
Disadvantages: May be too woody for some tastes
...Guerlain of Paris perfumes are world famous - not only for their unique scents but also for their perfumes named after famous places and stories. Certainly, a brilliant marketing technique has been making these perfumes attractive to the ear, long before the customer becomes attracted to the scent.
As a tiny bit of background, I will tell you who Mitsouko was. According to the Guerlain web page, the name Mitsouko comes from a character in a French novel. "Mitsouko was a beautiful Japanese woman, married to Admiral Togo. A British officer also secretly loved her. In 1905, when war breaks out between Russia and Japan, Mitsouko awaits with dignity the outcome of the battle, nobly overcoming her feelings." Something close to, but not exactly similar to the story of Madame Butterfly, I suppose.
OK, so we know that this fragrance...

A Greater Legacy
Review of The First Emperor (China's Terracotta Army), British Museum by
hiker
Advantages: Close-up view of a few of the figures
Disadvantages: Missing the 'wow'
...) or outside one of the major oriental studies departments up and down the country. Most of us do not know the names.
Ask about Xi'an and a few more people might recognise it.
Ask about the Terracotta Army and almost everyone will know.
Rightly so. The remains discovered by a peasant farmer in a field in Xi'an in 1974 have led to the largest archaeological site in the world; one which over thirty years later is still throwing up new discoveries and surprises; one whose full excavation is estimated to take another 20 or 30 years on the basis of current assumptions about its extent…which to my mind is quite possibly grossly under-estimated.
The image of the terracotta army - those serried ranks of infantry, archers and cavalry, each apparently individually sculpted, life size - has been ingrained on the brains of everyone born six...

I wish it would last forever
Review of Guerlain L'Instant de Eau de Parfum Spray by
lillamarta
Advantages: Fine, timeless, beautifully composed, very long-lasting
Disadvantages: None I can think of
...Launch date: 2003
Available: stores, online
Introduction
About two years ago when I started to take interest in perfumery I came the realisation that oriental fragrances have pretty much dominated the world of perfumery in the last hundred years. I never actually wore any oriental fragrance, as my family members preferred floral, aquatic or aromatic scents so it was a question of lacking knowledge rather than a dislike of oriental fragrances.
I saw a whole new world now opening up and jumped in. I discovered L'Instant by simply browsing through a Guerlain counter as I knew by then that this perfume house is the place to visit if you are looking for fragrances with a history.
The bottle
In line with the luxurious, rich and exotic feel of the fragrance itself, the bottle is a nicely cut, lilac tinted...

A magic moment that only lasts that long
Review of Guerlain L'Instant Magic by
lillamarta
Advantages: Classic yet modern, quality ingredients and composition, long-lasting, feminine
Disadvantages: Expensive, easy to confuse with L'Instant
...Launched: September 2007 *NEW*
Available: Duty Free, online (eBay auctions, eBay Shops)
Olfactory group: Floral Woody Musk
Perfumer: Randa Hammami
Top notes: bergamot
Middle notes: rose, freesia
Base notes: cedar wood, sandalwood, white musk, almond nuance
Easy to confuse this with the classic and exceptional L'Instant from the Guerlain house launched in 2003. Alas, L'Instant Magic is an entirely new composition and has nothing to do with its predecessor other than the very similar name.
The house
Guerlain, Paris is one of the oldest perfume houses in the world that for more than 175 years has been producing innovative and the highest quality fragrances such as Samsara (1889), L'Heure Bleue (1914), Shalimar (1925), Vetiver (1959) and Habit Rouge (1965) all of them still selling strong.
The bottle...
