Terry Pratchetts Macbeth
Review of Wyrd Sisters - Terry Pratchett by
calathea
Advantages: A very funny take on Macbeth
Disadvantages: none
...3 witches, a murdered king, a mad pretender to the throne and a scheming wife. Sounds like Macbeth. Turn it on its head and you have Wyrd Sisters, Terry Pratchets 6th Discworld novel and our first taste of Nanny Ogg, Magrat Garlick and a welcome return for Granny Weatherwax, the 3 Wyrd sisters.
In a shameless parady of Macbeth Wyrd sisters tells the tale of the kingdom of Lancre that is rules by a Duke that hears voices and the witches fight to restore order to the kingdom.
The 3 witches like the wizards at UU and the city watch are one of the most endearing features of the Discworld. Their constant bickering and snide remarks really are a joy. Add a dash of the standard Pratchett wit and you have the novel that really took the Discworld sagas into a league of their own.
Wyrd sisters is the first of the Witches books and would form...

The Wee Free Men - Terry Pratchett
Review of The Wee Free Men - Terry Pratchett by
smallwren
Advantages: Yet another goodie from Terry
Disadvantages: Was overshadowed by that damm potter lad!!
...For starters this is not a good book..... no... it is an excellent book.
Pratchett has done it again and written a book that you cannot put down and is extremly funny.
***The Story****
The book takes place on the discworld which is a land that exists in Pratchetts mind with the general idea being that it is placed in that think line between reality and fantasy.
The main charector is a young girl called Tiffany Achinf who has grown up on a farm in a place called the chalk. She knows she is not a normal child as she has to know everything and sees things in a very different way to other people. The story also centers around Tiffanys granny who is called Granny Achings (oddly enough) and she is the most famous shepherd that has ever lived - the only thing that matters to her is her sheep and she will not sleep or eat while one...

Pratchetts omens are all good.
Review of Good Omens - Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett by
kylecoare
Advantages: Fantastic humourous fantasy writing.
Disadvantages: none really, trees used for paper?
...Terry Pratchett And Neil Gaiman
Good Omens
Well, im finally back able to write, after a long term of internetmissingitus, basically no phone line!
Well that’s enough about me, cos if I was writing about me this review would only be about 4 lines long!
So instead we are going to lean over and pick up a nicely sized novel by a certain Mr T. Pratchett and his friend Mr N. Gaiman, entitled Good Omens, which was realeased upon the world in the grand year of 1990.
Terry Pratchett started writing a fair few years ago, back in the 60’s whilst still in school, over the years his talents increased and he found himself working for various newspapers etc.
He then went on to write a series of fairly successful books, which you may have heard about, the Diskworld books, pretty much always in the top ten charts.
Neil Gaiman...

Pratchett Delivers Again
Review of Going Postal: A Novel of Discworld - Terry Pratchett by
a-true-ben
Advantages: New characters but remembers the old Discworld, parodies modern business
Disadvantages: Not for newcomers, few tired ideas (e.g. igors)
...I've been reading Terry Pratchett's Discworld series for over ten years now, though of late I've got a little behind - with Terry still writing at quite a rate, and demands of university limiting my time (the last thing I want when I leave the library is another book!)
It was only at Christmas that I acquired 'Going Postal', the 29th instalment in the series (first published October 2004) - Santa no doubt encouraged by the price of just £3.99 on Amazon at the time (cover RRP £6.99 paperback)
The city of Ankh-Morpork evidently had letters (e.g. Carrot writing home back in 'Guards! Guards!') so it stood to reason it also had a postal service. What with the recent invention of the 'clacks' machines, however, the post office is in much the same state as the city watch used to be - reduced to a mere skeleton staff, and with a bigger...

One for the Die Hard Pratchett fan...
Review of Night Watch - Terry Pratchett by
sphenbullet
Advantages: Hey its Terry Pratchett
Disadvantages: Not exactly his finest work
...I hadn't meant to buy a book that afternoon but when I wandered past Ottakars and saw a big pile of copies of Night Watch there was nothing I could do. I had the money. I was halfway through reading Jurassic Park for the second time. At that point a new Discworld novel was about as irresistable as bubblewrap!
Terry Pratchett has written 27 Discworld novels not to mention the seemingly innumerable adaptations into screenplays, graphic novels, cookbooks, calenders and even streetmaps. Pratchett is a legend. He is God (in a very non-literal and inoffensive sense).
However, as a god, he is far from infallible and in my humble opinion Night Watch is a good example.
Now hold on. Before all you pratchites out there start screaming BLASPHEMY and erecting a gallows I feel I should say that it IS a good book. It is a romping tale...

Bargains Galore! A great read by Pratchett.
Review of Truckers - Terry Pratchett by
donnabroom
Advantages: A fantastic tale for all ages.
Disadvantages: None!
...My fiancé is possibly the world's biggest Terry Pratchett fan and although I've tried very hard I just can't read most of his books. It's not that I don't like the stories, I really do, we have a few on tape and I love listening to them but there's normally something that makes me switch off. I wish I could pin it down. Anyway like all rules this one has an exception; I love Pratchett's children's books. And this, in my opinion, is the best.
The title is slightly misleading and I must admit that the three titles in the trilogy, Truckers, Diggers and Wings, put me off for ages. I thought they were going to be about vehicles! Finally I picked one up and noticed the pictures off the Nomes on the front and after reading the blurb I decided to give it a go.
Truckers, as mentioned above, is the first in a trilogy known widely...

deeper than pratchett's usual fare...
Review of Jingo - Terry Pratchett by
scruffygit
Advantages: still as funny as all the other discworld books
Disadvantages: slightly darker with a deep message "why can't we all just get along?"
..."The Discworld goes to war with armies of sardines, warriors, fishermen, squid and at least one very camp follower. As two armies march Commander Vimes of Ankh-Morpork City Watch faces unpleasant foes who are out to get him... and that's just the people on his side. The enemy might be even worse" Jingo, the 21st in Terry Pratchett's phenomenally successful Discworld series, makes the World Cup look like a friendly five-a-side.
Forget everything you know about Pratchett, forget the craziness of the first Discworld books, forget the fun, forget Discworld, cause this is serious stuff. Of course Pratchett is still funny, but that has become background. I wouldn't read Jingo because it's funny. Jingo (like Pratchett's other more mature novels) isn't only funny, but also much richer than the previous novels. The characters are now well...

Genesis and Exodus, Pratchett-style
Review of Truckers - Terry Pratchett by
Kukana
Advantages: Amusing, clever observation, fast-paced plot, good for children or adults
Disadvantages: none
...Terry Pratchett, best known for his 'Discworld' series of books, is a master of observation and subtle humour. In the book 'Truckers', and its two sequels, he relates the story of the nomes: small, stocky beings who are four inches high, and who live life about ten times faster than humans do. To a nome, ten years is extreme old age.
The book opens with a brief pseudo-scientific note about nomes, and then a page from the 'Book of Nome', something which is quoted at the start of each chapter. This 'Book' is like a Bible for the nome population, starting:
'In the beginning... there was the Site. And Arnold Bros (est 1905) Moved upon the face of the Site, and Saw that it had Potential.'
Then the story begins. We meet Masklin, on a cold, wet evening. Even rain becomes something special in Pratchett's clever use...
