Healthy Ready Meals
Advantages: Wide variety, healthy, reasonably priced
Disadvantages: Poor Cottage Pie
...to try. For those who like a hotter curry, Chicken Jalfrezi should be a good choice. There is also a Thai Chicken Curry with Jasmine Rice, a little more expensive at £2.99 - the Indian curries are all £2.39.
So far then I'm impressed, although obviously not with the Cottage Pie. A few days ago I was in Tesco Express and had a look at their Healthy Living ready meals, but they did seem to contain slightly more saturated fat than the Waitrose Perfectly Balanced range. I have also tried one or two of the Co-op's Healthy Eating meals - good value at two for £3.50 - but there is not a huge variety to choose from.
It's too much to cover the whole range of meals in one review, but I'm glad I have found a source of main dishes that are good for your health without compromising on flavour. Some people have the idea that Waitrose is too...

Tesco Finest Profiteroles.
Advantages: Cold flaky chaux pastry, cold creamy smooth cream, delicious creamy yet sweet chocolate.
Disadvantages: Addictive and calorie-ridden.
...If you have read my reviews before you will probably have relized i like most food, espescially sweet things and desserts.
In tescos today, i wandered off by myself as i was bored, and my mum said if i saw anything bring it back and put it in the trolley, i automatically wandered off to the pick and mix, and after stuffing a bag full of £5 worth of chewy and chocolaty sweets i decided to wander back to my mum, obviously taking the route that takes me past the mouth watering desserts aisle.
I wasn't planning on having a look, after all our trolley was already stuffed full of chocolaty, toffee and all kinds of desserts and items from the bakery, but something caught my eye.. TESCO FINEST PROFITEROLE DESSERT.
The dessert was in a plastic container with a tesco finest label wrapped around. It looked quite yummy sitting there...

Tescos Finest All Butter Croissants
Advantages: Georgous
Disadvantages: Costly
...TESCO FINEST ALL BUTTER CROISSANTS
It was another boring day, and I was yet again, being dragged around our local Tesco with my mum and two moaning little brothers. I was beginning to get extremely bored, trailing up and down the washing powder aisles and being told to go and fetch boring products such as Tesco Finest Broccoli and tinned peaches. My dowdy facial expression changed however, when we took a U-Turn with our trolley and headed down the bakery aisle.
Immediately I was a lot more cheery and I couldn't wait to choose something to put in our trolley. You see on the occasion my mum takes us down the bakery/patisserie aisle in the supermarket, she allows me and my two little brothers to choose a product each and through it in the trolley. Now today I wasn't in the mood for my usual custard or caramel doughnuts, and after...

Tesco Finest Beef Burgers - Will you see through the smoke?
Advantages: High beef content.
Disadvantages: High fat content - smoke filled kitchen.
...Tesco Finest Gourmet Aberdeen Angus Beef Burgers
As a family we like the odd beef burger from time to time, but try to stay away from the fast food places. I decided to give these a try - the packet said 94% beef, which seemed good. I also thought that it would be a quick and easy tea.
***The Product***
Tesco had a massive range of burgers when I went in, some with Jalapeno peppers and shallots etc, but I just wanted a plain good quality burger. They come in a pack of two, in a black plastic packet, with usual silver packaging denoting 'finest'. The burgers looked very thick and were a dark red colour, with flecks of pepper in them.
I cooked them in a dry fry cast iron pan. They seemed to take ages to cook though; as the burgers were quite thick. In all, I think they took around 20 minutes, which is a little...

Tesco's Finest...
Advantages: Delicious
Disadvantages: Quite expensive
...I'm sure we've all been in this situation at some time or other: you go to look in the fridge/freezer for something nice for dinner and absolutely nothing takes your fancy. For me, this happens on a regular basis. After a long day at work, I can't always be bothered to cook and often pop into Marks & Spencer to see what I can find. Unfortunately, I normally take the easy option and buy a ready meal - naughty, I know! However, these can not only be very expensive but also quite unhealthy.
In recent weeks, I've been trying to change the way I buy food. I now tend to buy something that will last for a few days and cook up some vegetables to go with it each night. Pies are very good in this respect. They go with almost any vegetable and are very tasty. Recently, on a shopping trip to Tesco, I discovered Mushroom, Leek and Gruyère Filo...

It say's these are tesco's finest, and they definitely are.
Advantages: They taste great, theres enough for two people, high quality product.
Disadvantages: None
....
The well layed out writing on the back, where the instructions and ingrediants are clearly written with reasonably large writing. The writing is very easy to see and the instructions are easy to understand.
The words classics which is written in gold and tesco finest which is written in white beneath the picture these are a nice touch and they make the box look very fancy.
Most of the main things you need to know when buying it are written on the front in a small part at the bottom of the box. Including nutritional guidelines, the best before date and how long it needs to be microwaved.
A tempting description of what is provided in this stylish box.
That the box says there is enough to serve two people.
THE DESCRIPTION
The description provided is as follows, succulent chicken strips in a mexican style chilli, lime...

Tesco Value Ready Salted Crisps - Self explanatory title....
Advantages: Cheap price, simple packaging, nice and crunchy, well salted.
Disadvantages: None.
...Crisps are one area that I normally will not scrimp on purchases, however, I saw these at my other halfs house and thought I'd give them a try.
The packaging is extremely simple, it's white with a blue banner in the middle stating that there are ready salted crisps which contain no artificial flavours, colours or MSG and it bears the familiar Tesco Value logo as well as the nutritional information all on the front of the page.
Upon opening the bag I can feel that these are salted crisps straight away and they feel a tad greasy. The potato is nice and crunchy and there is a good covering of salt on them without being too overpowering. I scarcely eat ready salted (too many other gorgeous flavours in the world!) and I use ready salted crisps for putting on the top of a tuna pasta bake before I top with cheese and then place under...

TESCO FINEST MASH - NOT SO FINE
Advantages: easy to cook
Disadvantages: very runny
...I try not to buy things like ready made mash because lets face it, how difficult is it to make mash? However, there are always times when you need food in a hurry and dont want dishes to wash up afterwards.
I discovered a mash in Somerfield, Mature Cheddar Mash which is absoultely lovely. So I then decided to give the Tesco Finest mash a go.
TESCO FINEST MASH
++++++++++++++++++
This comes in a round plastic bowl, with a plastic covering and a cardboard wrap. The Tesco Finest range is always in a silver packaging so it is easy to spot.
Tesco Finest products are supposed to be better quality and are therefore dearer.
Tesco Finest Mash is £1.60 for 500g. This is in comparison to their Tesco Fresh Mash Potato which is 88p for 400g. So you get 100g more, but it costs you nearly twice as much! They also sell Healthy...

Milk as Milk Should Be (Tesco Finest Channel Island Milk)
Advantages: delicious
Disadvantages: more expensive, slightly more calories
...£1.50 for 4l (2x 2l) bottles of Tesco Pure (own-brand Cravendale equivalent) filtered milk which I normally buy.
The biggest advantage is the taste. I find that gold top milk is too creamy to put in in my tea or coffee but great on cereals, and for pudding making purposes.
What about the health though? One of the dooyoo reviews is titled "die happy". Is Channel Island Milk as bad for you as it sometimes is declared?
Gold top milk has more fat than a standard full milk - 5.2g per 100ml instead of 3.6g (semi-skimmed has 1.6g, and I won't even mention skimmed, because it's such a dishwater than it's not even worth talking about). It's still only about 5% fat, though which is pretty low fat as far as food in general is concerned.
Due to the higher fat content, it has more clories: 161kcal in 200ml in comparison to 126kcal in...

Are you ready for Tesco value salted crisps?
Advantages: Less salt, better nutritional value, and a great price
Disadvantages: Not for brand snobs
...On a tighter budget this week so I decided I would pick up the value crisps for my daughters pack lunch.
Part of Tesco's no frills range theses crisps are packaged in a white, very plain bag.
Each bag contains 18g of potato crisps, an ideal size for my daughters pack lunch.
The taste
Theses are ready salted crisps that are not as heavily salted as many other ready salted crisps, but I do think they have a sufficient salty taste. The texture and crunch is no different to any other crisps, OK so maybe these crisps maybe thinner sliced but I have eaten other leading brand crisps that have been sliced just as thin.
