Australian Red Wine (Tesco's)
Review of Tesco Australian Red Wine (South Eastern Australia) by
fizzybonbon
Advantages: Cheap and cheerful
Disadvantages: Not really what you would serve to impress at a posh dinner party
...I never used to be a red wine drinker, I would have said in the past if someone had offered me a glass "no thanks". But within the past few years I have changed my mind a lot and now do enjoy red wine.
THE PRODUCT:
Australian Red Wine (south eastern Australia) Selected by Tesco
75 cl
13.0% vol
medium and fruity
cost: £2.08
Allergy advice: Contains Sulphites
Availability: every Tesco supermarket I have been in
MY EXPERIENCE:
I first bought a bottle of this wine when we were having a barbeque in the summer, I wasn't sure what it was or what it would be like as with most people when buying for a party you tend to just buy a few bottles of a lot of things.
I decided however after a few strange glances from my partner that maybe I should try this wine before forcing it on our guests. The first thing I notice was it didn...

Tesco Australian Red Wine
Review of Tesco Australian Red Wine (South Eastern Australia) by
Monkey_Spanker
Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Not something to serve at a party until everyone's drunk!
...Let's face it, you're buying this for £3.00 a bottle.
However, MUCH better than some of the chemical crap (e.g. Cape Crossing Cabernet Sauvignon - chemical crap) that some producers pass off as wine in the same price band.
It's somewhat acidic with very little body - but who cares at this price? It DOESN'T taste of chemicals and plastic.
Better than most cheap table wines, can't go wrong with this - but make sure your guests have had a bit of the good stuff and are a bit pissed before you get the cheap one out.
If you want better for your buck do a wine run to France and buy there - but not cheap French wine, it sucks (and they only sell it to stupid Brits like us!)....

Float Away With White Cloud Wine!!
Review of Nobilo White Cloud White Wine by
surfchik27
Advantages: Tastes amazing, not too expensive and it's alcohol!
Disadvantages: Drinking too much results in silly behaviour and possibly hangover next day!
...supermarkets and most off-licenses (Victoria Wine/Thresher and Odd bins stock it).
I recently bought a case of 6 from Tesco's for £27.30 ( which is £4.55 per bottle). Not that I intend to consume them in one go (ahem!) I'm sticking to my story anyway that it's more cost effective to do so!!
Storage instructions
**********************
White wines don't last long - this one should only be stored for a maximum of 2 years (and only chill it shortly before opening and keep it on ice once opened).
Which year should I choose?
********************************
The 2002 bottle is fantastic (for those who may not be aware, the year dentotes the year the grapes used were harvested) but each year is of a very high standard - so don't panic if you can't locate that particular year.
Alcohol Content

TESCO - WE WERE LUCKY TO ESCAPE THIS ONE ALIVE!
Review of Tesco (Shop) by
RICHADA
Advantages: Huge Stores. Stores Everywhere. Fresh Food Quality. Clubcard
Disadvantages: Taking Over The World. Huge Stores, Some Badly Run.
...other sections like soaps, shampoos and particularly the alcohol departments carry a much greater choice of products. Certainly Tesco is the place that I purchase bargain wines from on occasion, usually finding very good half priced offers.
As with ASDA there is now a big push on financial services. As supermarkets go, Tesco seem to be the market leader in telephone and internet services too - both fixed line and mobile telecommunications.
Dig a little deeper though and popular ASDA departments are actually missing in Tesco, there is no optician or pharmacy in our large Tesco store, nor, apart from a rotisserie do they offer exotic take away food. You can however leave your photographs for developing in store whilst you shop.
QUALITY & FRESHNESS OF PRODUCE 8 / 10
No real complaints here. My main priority when food shopping...

A great full-bodied red wine
Review of Tesco Finest Chateauneuf du Pape by
laramax
Advantages: Delicious full bodied wine
Disadvantages: Quite expensive
...I love a glass of red wine and I love a tasty full bodied red. One of my favourites is Chateauneuf du Pape so when I spotted it on offer in Tesco at £5.99 a bottle just a few weeks before Christmas I resolved to treat myself to a couple of bottles to enjoy over the festive period especially as there was an additional 25% off if I bought six bottles of wine in total.
If you buy French wines you have probably already heard of the Appellation Controlee system. This is a guarantee that a wine was produced in a specific location by a particular method with approved grape varieties and in controlled quantities. Quality is not guaranteed, but wines designated with the AC are usually of higher quality than those that are not.
Châteauneuf du Pape is the lead appellation of the Southern Rhône, and is named after the papal palace...

Tesco, Tescis, Tescit
Review of Tesco Clubcard by
mrpaella
Advantages: Saves money from your shopping
Disadvantages: None so far
...of accumulating more Clubcard points. Note that you cannot get Clubcard points on purchases of medicines and stamps.
Similar to in-store you get 1 Clubcard point for every pound of petrol purchased at a Tesco petrol station.
If you book your holiday from Travelcare then you get 1 Clubcard point for every pound spent.
The Internet shopping portal Tesco.com has really done well over the past year. You can now have shopping delivered to your door for an administrative charge of £5. Tesco.com also sells music, videos, DVDs, computer games, books, flowers, wine, baby and toddler stuff, fashion and home living and electrical appliances. Clubcard points are obtained on all purchases.
Again you get 1 Clubcard point for every pound spent on gas and electricity with Norweb Energi/Eastern Energy. Sometimes you see salespeople from energy companies...

Is it smooth enough to charm a jolly swagman.
Review of Tesco Australian White Wine by
cjsingleton
Advantages: Price, easily found
Disadvantages: Grape choice, harsh not smooth
...This is Tesco’s version of an Australian White Wine at £2.99 a bottle is it another smooth bargain?
Where does it come from?
I have been enjoying Australian wines for more years that I care to remember and they have become enormously popular in recent years. Australian wines taste so good because they are exceptionally fruity, very smooth, sometimes oaked and usually fairly cheap, just what I like and hence my interest in them. This wine is from South East Australia; the bottle is not precise as to which specific valley or local area. South East Australia is an enormous land area including New South Wales and Victoria wine regions and they are now producing good quality value for money wines.
I prefer to know which specific region a wine comes from as this gives me an idea of the quality I can expect. Some of my favourite...

Fine Wine and some beer
Review of Victoria Wine Company (Shop) by
mikeydred
Advantages: Reasonable prices and a good range of products
Disadvantages: Its a chain
...We have a couple of Victoria Wine shops in Newcastle, and I think they are reasonably good. At Christmas they had an offer of Lanson Black Label Champagne buy two get one free that worked out at under £15 a bottle. Their price for a single bottle was £21.99 whicj about two pounds dearer than Tescos and much dearer that Mr Aktar next to Chichester Metro Sounth Shields who used to sell it for £14.99 a bottle, but I no longer live there.
They have a wide range of wines, but you usually benefit from the offers they have one. One recent one was a hungarian wine called "The Unpronounceable Grape" , a dry white wine at £3.49 a bottle or £6 for two. It's excellent and stands well with the more expensive wines, such as Koonunga Hill or Lindemanns.
Their beers selection is limited , but the currently do Murphy's at 8 cans for a fiver...
