Australian Red Wine (Tesco's)
Advantages: Cheap and cheerful
Disadvantages: Not really what you would serve to impress at a posh dinner party
...I never used to be a red wine drinker, I would have said in the past if someone had offered me a glass "no thanks". But within the past few years I have changed my mind a lot and now do enjoy red wine.
THE PRODUCT:
Australian Red Wine (south eastern Australia) Selected by Tesco
75 cl
13.0% vol
medium and fruity
cost: £2.08
Allergy advice: Contains Sulphites
Availability: every Tesco supermarket I have been in
MY EXPERIENCE:
I first bought a bottle of this wine when we were having a barbeque in the summer, I wasn't sure what it was or what it would be like as with most people when buying for a party you tend to just buy a few bottles of a lot of things.
I decided however after a few strange glances from my partner that maybe I should try this wine before forcing it on our guests. The first thing I notice was it didn...

Austrailian Red wine selected by Tesco worth a try
Advantages: Smooth
Disadvantages: none that I can think of
...Austrailian Red Wine, South Eastern Austrailia selected by Tesco.
I am no connoisseur at describing wine, but I could recommend this one. My wife does not even like red wine, but even she found this one pleasant. It is as it says on the bottle "A SMOOTH, MEDIUM-BODIED RED WITH BERRY FRUIT FLAVOURS". Though perhaps being pregnant made my wife normally a non red drinker tollerate this bottle and enjoy it to some extent, and I found it nice enough to ask her to buy it again from Tesco again and I enjoyed it the second time just as much as I did the first time.
Describing any kind of flavour is a difficult task for me, but with some kind of wines especially red it is easier to describe what you don't like about them, rather than what you do. The main two failings I find with quite a few red wines is some you could describe as being...

Tesco Australian Red Wine
Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Not something to serve at a party until everyone's drunk!
...Let's face it, you're buying this for £3.00 a bottle.
However, MUCH better than some of the chemical crap (e.g. Cape Crossing Cabernet Sauvignon - chemical crap) that some producers pass off as wine in the same price band.
It's somewhat acidic with very little body - but who cares at this price? It DOESN'T taste of chemicals and plastic.
Better than most cheap table wines, can't go wrong with this - but make sure your guests have had a bit of the good stuff and are a bit pissed before you get the cheap one out.
If you want better for your buck do a wine run to France and buy there - but not cheap French wine, it sucks (and they only sell it to stupid Brits like us!)....

Red, red wine...
Advantages: Very good quality
Disadvantages: Price
...If I had to choose between white wine and red I would always go for white, but not always white whine can be chosen. Villa Maria is one of New Zealand's leading wine makers. Recently I've came across its Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon produced of grapes from Hawke's Bay vineyards. Before tasting the wine my expectations were quite? low as good staff can't come from New World.
History
As you may expect there isn't much history behind the name. No eve a hundred years of tradition and development in wine making. Villa Maria Estate was founded in 1961 by its owner George Fistonich. In just over 40 years has been New Zealand's leading wine award winner. Villa Maria owns vineyards and sources grapes from contract growers from three of New Zealand's leading grape growing regions: Marlborough, Hawke's Bay (this is my tasting bottle comes from...

The Black Pig - Pigassu French table red wine
Advantages: Great with very many meals especially red meats
Disadvantages: Non
...UPDATED FURTHER!!!!!!
I buy a lot of my wines direct from Laithwaites wine company based at New Aquitaine House, Exeter Way, Reading and they are great.
There is one wine in particular as I am a red wine lover caught my eye on the laithwaites website that is only available from mid June to mid July each year called Pigassu nicknamed the black pig and comes from France.
I have found it great with very many meals. It is very full bodied and has a very smooth sweet taste on the palette and the nicest of very many other french red table wines I have tried over the years.
As far as comparisons against other French red table wines that I have tried over the years is it's unique quality. It is totally naturally produced from the best red french grapes, well matured 2002 vintage or whichever year you buy it after, like next years...

A great full-bodied red wine
Advantages: Delicious full bodied wine
Disadvantages: Quite expensive
...I love a glass of red wine and I love a tasty full bodied red. One of my favourites is Chateauneuf du Pape so when I spotted it on offer in Tesco at £5.99 a bottle just a few weeks before Christmas I resolved to treat myself to a couple of bottles to enjoy over the festive period especially as there was an additional 25% off if I bought six bottles of wine in total.
If you buy French wines you have probably already heard of the Appellation Controlee system. This is a guarantee that a wine was produced in a specific location by a particular method with approved grape varieties and in controlled quantities. Quality is not guaranteed, but wines designated with the AC are usually of higher quality than those that are not.
Châteauneuf du Pape is the lead appellation of the Southern Rhône, and is named after the papal palace that was...

The white wine, that happens to be red
Advantages: simple, clean and crisp
Disadvantages: too simple for some
...For many reasons, I am a firm believer that all the best wines are red. However, on my travels I have come to the conclusion that in todays society, red wine has lost a lot of its appeal.
Hopefully, today I can do my little bit to redress that.
Firstly, let me ask you a question. What is it that you do not like about red wine? I would hazard a guess that it is its tendency to be dry, bitter on the tongue? The fact that it a lot heavier, and more complex than a white? I am right, am i not?
Well, before you completely rule out red wines, do me one favour, yeah? Give a Beaujolais a go, in particular, Beaujolais nouveau. I was first introduced to this on my recent trip to Paris (feel free to check out the review!!! LOL.). Although I am already a fan of red wine in general, I was attracted by its simplicity. It is this simplicity...

Red , Red , Wine
Advantages: Fruity , good price , easy to drink , complements many foods ,not too sweet
Disadvantages: None for me
...As someone who rarely drinks red wine I have only recently begun drinking J.P. Chenet , Cabernet-Syrah . As of late both myself and my husband are always taking medication and as such we try to be careful ,only occasionally drinking alcohol . Still I should think we have consumed much more than our fair share in the past . Added to this Hubby suffers with migraines and steers well clear of red wine .
Recently when my brother visited he bought a bottle of the Red Cabernet-Syrah and I'm afraid to say I have become quite hooked. I justify this by only having one or two glasses at the most , at any one sitting , and assuring my self that the odd glass of red wine is good for you and medicinal . I wonder how many alcoholics use such arguements . Anyway enough of the bakground on to the wine .

Cheap & Cheerful
Advantages: Value for money

...Following a special offer from the Tesco wine club (100 club points) I decided to shop at my local TESCO, following on from my purchase of white I decided to go for the Australian red. This was cheap at £2.62 for 75 cl.
