Tesco Cheese Puffs

Advantages: Good value for money
Disadvantages: none come to mind

...Tesco Cheese Puffs (150g) Among the various 'snacks' bought for Christmas was a bag of Tesco Cheese Puffs. I thought it would make a change from the usual twiglets, peanuts and Cheeselets that we buy. I was also amused by the fact that the initials of this snack are TCP. So, what did I think of these snacks? Brief Facts • This product is produced in the UK. • The Best Before date on my pack was 5 months from when I bought it. • It is suitable for vegetarians. • Storage - in a cool dry place. • The product contains no artificial colours or flavours. Allergy Alert • It says that the product contains no nuts and that no nuts are used in the factory. However they do not guarantee that it is nut free. Curious? • This product contains Milk. Packaging The Cheese Puffs are...

Tesco Greek Feta Cheese - Yuuummmmyyyy!

Advantages: Oh so versatile!
Disadvantages: um.....?

...and the peppers have ?collapsed? a little bit. All in all, it is fabulous. Having holidayed in the Greek islands on several occasions, I can say that I have never come across a lovelier example of feta. Now, I may be offending the Greek feta makers that I have encountered on my holidays, but I usually found it to be too salty, too firm - almost to the point of rubbery, and too sour. This may be the authentic version but I didn?t like it! My only saving grace is that the Tesco feta is made in Greece (yes, I know?bad carbon foot print?but it?s soooooooo nice!) so it too is authentic! And now for the technical bit?Tesco Greek Feta cheese is made from pasteurised sheep and goat?s milk, is free from nuts and is suitable for vegetarians (another plus for me!). It?s typical composition per 100g is as follows: energy 1140kj/275kcal, protein 16.0g...

Squeaky Cheese?

Advantages: Tasty, reasonable price
Disadvantages: The sqeaking can take some getting used to!

...A friend of mine recently introduced me to a new type of cheese called Halloumi. Being a cheese lover already, I was more then willing to try it but have to say that it is very different from any other type of cheese. Halloumi comes from Cyprus and is usually made from goats and sheep?s milk. However, the version of this cheese that tends to be sold in the supermarket?s, is made with cow?s milk and does taste slightly different from the traditional recipe. Halloumi has a texture which is most similar to Mozzarella and it is also the same light, almost white colour. Halloumi tends to come stored in salty water which doe make the cheese taste salty, but personally, I really love it. I usually tend to buy my Halloumi from Tesco?s and the brand that I get from here is from the Discover range (the product shown in the photo...

Squeaky Cheese

Advantages: Its great for dinner parties
Disadvantages: It's not cheap

...traditional made from goats cheese and is package with a bit use, much like mozzarella is. I personally have only tried this cheese fried but it can also be grilled or barbecued, both of which I am keen to try. I have not had any problems finding it in supermarkets, but you should expect to pay £2.23 for 250g in Tesco for it though you are likely to find it at a cheaper price in Aldi or Lidl. If you would like some halloumi recipes then here is a site with quite a few recipes for you to check out. http://www.recipezaar.com/recipes.php?foodido=12473&title=halloumi%20cheese Some useful information for you, Halloumi can be kept unopened in the fridge for up to a year, once opened it's best kept in a sealed container in a shallow amount of salt water. Summary: Definitely one to give a try. I have also posted this review...

Macka Cheese

Advantages: quick meal, can be frozen
Disadvantages: expensive, every dieter's nightmare

...One Sunday afternoon I wanted to have a quickie dinner after a huge roast plus apple pie and cream (smacks lips) so thought I'd plump for one of my childhood faves, Macaroni Cheese. It's one of the few dishes I think I'm quite good at cooking myself so I was interested to see how good old Tesco's version would compare. * Where to find it * In the refrigerated section of Tesco, by the overpriced Spaghetti Bolognese and Lasagne. This product is a serving for one and can be frozen. * Price * £1.86 from Tesco Express (rip off) for a 420g portion. Needs must when you live in the sticks! * How to cook it * This can be cooked either in the oven or in the microwave. I opted for the latter - instructions are as follows: Remove outer packaging, pierce film lid several times and then pop it on full power for: 650 watt...

Review of Tesco Italian Macaroni Cheese

cheese that does not melt?

Advantages: great for BBQ and salad
Disadvantages: high fat content

...Halloumi cheese has to be one of my favourite foods to have in the house during the summer although it is not a seasonal product in my house we tend to eat more of it in the summer. Ok for those of you who have never experienced halloumi this is a cheese that comes from Cyprus and is traditionally made with a mixture of goats and sheeps milk although industrially made halloumi tends to contain cows milk which does slightly change the taste. The cheese is white in colour and has a texture very similar to mozzarella but is much more salty in flavour as this is generally stored in salt water. For those of you watching your salt intake I would say be careful with this as it does have a high salt content. Where do I get my halloumi ? personally I have found Costco the best place, you can sometimes find it in Asda or Tescos but you...

Review of Tesco Halloumi Cheese

halloumi cheese one cheese lots of flavour

Advantages: different with a unique taste
Disadvantages: a bit rubbery

...Halloumi cheese mmm.... not any cheese, you can't find any cheese like it. there is so many cheeses on the supermarket but this cheese can stand out of the shelf simply because of it's name. There is a lot of claims that hallaumi is originally from cypress or Greece and some claimed that turkey is the origin of halloumi, but no the original source of this cheese believe it or not is the middle east and i can tell you that it was from the Arab semi island then spread to Lebanon and Syria which was developed and enhanced. The name halloumi is even Arabic it comes halim or halloum that mean the person who keeps his cool and be patient not loosing his temper, and may be it was called that because it needs lots of patience to be ready. This cheese was made by Arab from very old days, when they where shepherds and of course...

Review of Tesco Halloumi Cheese

The Squeaky Cheese You Can Cook.

Advantages: Versatile, interesting, quick and easy to prepare, fantastic flavour.
Disadvantages: High calorie and high fat

...Halloumi is a Turkish cheese, which originates from the Mediterranean island of Cyrus and which is registered as a protected Cypriot product within the US (but not the EU). The cheese has been around for 100?s of years and remains a popular ingredient in these parts but has only recently started to gain popularity in the UK. Halloumi is special because it is meant to be cooked and it has a unique flavour and texture with a tendency to squeak somewhat upon chewing! Halloumi is traditionally made from a mixture of goat's and sheep's milk, although nowadays the cheese tends to contain cows milk in addition. Halloumi is made by submerging fresh curds into hot whey in order to soften and stretch before ageing in baskets. The cheese is a milky white colour, with a firm texture ideal to be sliced and chopped and it is generally bought...

I CAN`T GET ENOUGH OF THESE PLEASING CHEESE PUFFS

Advantages: Nice and tasty snacks
Disadvantages: That orange powder really stains

...to the fact that the bags they are supplied in are far too small and I simply shy away from them at all costs. Cheese Puffs have to come in a big bag for me to enjoy them, the sort of bag that you have to really reach into and get your cuffs covered in orange flavouring to grab the treats, and they don?t come in a much bigger bag than Tesco`s own Cheese Puffs, 175 grams of the little orange snacks to enjoy at ones leisure, which is why a pack or two inevitably find themselves in my trolley whenever I find myself in the aforementioned shop. Tesco Cheese Puffs come in a gold foil effect bag with a scattering of the snacks adorning the front in a haphazard manner. ?Tesco? is writ large as is cheese puffs with a better value banner running across the top. In common with most food products the back of the packet is reserved for ingredient...

Review of Tesco Cheese Puffs

A less well-known mediteranean fun-cheese!

Advantages: Doesn't melt, very tasty snack, not too expensive
Disadvantages: Not too cheap, has quite a salty taste too it

...it, I dont need to use any oil or fats at all. Simply cut it into pieces and bung it in a frying pan, making sure not to burn it (so turn it around often, or it can burn quickly!). So this sheep/goat/cow milk cheese, that squeaks when fried and chewed, doesn't melt. If you know how to make escalopes, milanesas or "breadcrumbed" meat, this could be something interesting to do with it. There isn't much more to say about this - I would recommend anyone who loves cheese to give it a try - in fact anyone at all for that matter. If you see someone at a cheese market cooking cheese, check if it is halloumi! Otherwise, go to Tescos and buy a block....
