Milk as Milk Should Be (Tesco Finest Channel Island Milk)

Advantages: delicious
Disadvantages: more expensive, slightly more calories

...£1.50 for 4l (2x 2l) bottles of Tesco Pure (own-brand Cravendale equivalent) filtered milk which I normally buy. The biggest advantage is the taste. I find that gold top milk is too creamy to put in in my tea or coffee but great on cereals, and for pudding making purposes. What about the health though? One of the dooyoo reviews is titled "die happy". Is Channel Island Milk as bad for you as it sometimes is declared? Gold top milk has more fat than a standard full milk - 5.2g per 100ml instead of 3.6g (semi-skimmed has 1.6g, and I won't even mention skimmed, because it's such a dishwater than it's not even worth talking about). It's still only about 5% fat, though which is pretty low fat as far as food in general is concerned. Due to the higher fat content, it has more clories: 161kcal in 200ml in comparison to 126kcal in...

How do you malt milk?

Advantages: taste, nutrition not too bad, price
Disadvantages: /

...I have never been a huge fan of biscuits, though I will admit, now and then I will fancy one. Usually it is not a chocolate option, but one form the variety that I call 'dry': bourbons, custard creams, rich teas. On this particular trip to Tesco I was browsing the shelves, and just as I was away to reach for the Custard Creams, I spotted a pack of malted milk biscuits. They were wrapped in a blue packet (much like the one in the image provided), with a n image of two malted biscuits calling out to me. I didn't hesitate further, and popped them into the trolley, along with a few other packets of my dad's choice. I had tried these biscuits before but it had been a while so I couldn't quite remember what they tasted exactly like. I sat down with a steaming cup of tea by my side, a small pile of the biscuits aside me. I smelled one...

Cat milk!?

Advantages: Cheap & good for kittens
Disadvantages: doesnt contain as many essential nutrients as branded products

...and suckers attached to extract and bottle cat milk for the nations pets. This is a rather graphic and worring image to envision. I believe that this milk is actually just cows milk which has been chemically modified to contain the essential nutrients and vitamins as found in cats mothers milk. Phew, so don't worry it's only the cows which have to endure fluid extraction. The packaging is a blue bottle with italic tesco 'cat milk' printed on, the white bar code is on the reverse and theres a picture of a tiny tabby kitten on the front. Volume in bottle is 200ml and cost 42p per bottle. It fastens with a screw top and the plastic it is made from is recyclable. Easy to open, the bottle is secured with a saftey trigger and wrap around plastic loop - similar to some of the peoples milk you can get. Easy to pour, unless someones little head is...

Dunkable delectable delights from d......urrm.....tescos

Advantages: Tasty, dunkable, 40 cals, yummy yummy etc
Disadvantages: Hard to get at; only 20 in a packet and only so many tea breaks in a day

...searching but all short lived....... UNTIL..... enter stage left: TESCO'S MALTED MILK BISCUITS! It began with the attractive blue packaging calling to me across the aisle. Blue is inspirational of course as it smacks of "relaxing and refreshing" rather than "stuff your face!" There is even a handy picture on the side to entice you in and some handy info to convince you that the product is worthy of your consumption. Apparently the packet contains 200g has a "great taste, now with 10% less salt". That's it - they have landed in my trolley! I am very restrained and wait until I'm home before hacking my way in. The packet has a tiny peel strip which doesn't work and a flap on the folded seam which proves a fruitless avenue too. So, out with the carving knife (good job I didn't attempt this in the car park!) and I'm in. Approx 20 biccies are now...

Tesco Value Soya milk- and organic to boot

Advantages: good quality, no curdled products so far
Disadvantages: not described as 'organic'

...TESCO VALUE Soya milk is really excellent value at 60p. Although it does not describe itself as 'organic', the label on the side states that organic soya beans are used, and if I remember correctly, the same amount is used in the ASDA organic soya milk . I prefer to use either 'organic' or 'non-gmo' soya, so this product is a real bargain. Most organic soya milk brands cost upwards of 85 p., so this is a real good-value bargain. To date, I have had no complaints, such as curdling, even when using in hot tea or coffee [which does sometimes curdle]. I have got used to using soya, which suits me better. As this a long-life product, one can buy a few to store, without fear of spoillage....

Lovely Cheap Milk

Advantages: Tastes great, cheap, can use it in different ways
Disadvantages: Maybe some gut problems

...This stuff is great. Mum won't buy it but my mate gets it and it works out really really cheap. She gets it from Tesco (obviously) and it's in their own basic range, kinda no fills thing, and it costs about £1.50 and you just add water to it. I think when I've helped to make it we put in 4 tablespoons to a pint of water and then just stir. It dissolves really well and here's no lumpy bits, like you'd think there would be. A one pound box of this stuff makes in between 12-16 pints of pretty good milk, so that works out much cheaper than the real thing. My mate has it on her breakfast cereal and when I've stayed over I've had it on mine and I don't think you can tell the difference between this and the real stuff. It smells a bit different at first but you soon get used to it - like someone's breath, but a nice clean breath...

Review of Tesco Value Dried Skimmed Milk

Ultimate value milk substitute

Advantages: Great value, healthy, organic
Disadvantages: Taste different from regular milk

...If you don?t fancy regular cow?s milk due to issues of diet, lactose intolerance, veganism or simple taste then soya milk offers you a viable alternative. Soya milk comes in the shape of many variants e.g. fortified with vitamins, calcium, sweetened/unsweetened chocolate soya milk, organic etc. and is generally more expensive then regular milk. However if you are after a good, bog-standard example this is simply unfortified, unsweetened and unflavoured with vanilla then you could do a lot worse than Tesco Value ?Soya Alternative To Milk?. This comes in 1 litre tetra packs unpretentiously adorned in generic Tesco Value brand labelling at the very reasonable price of 60p (34p a pint) and is found at room temperature next to all the long life milk in Tesco stores (other long life soya milks are often priced at 99p+ per litre). What in fact...

Like eating cardboard (Tesco Reduced Fat Chocolate Digestive)

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Taste awful and are not much better for you

...Recently my other half has decided he wants to start eating a bit more healthy so long gone are the chocolate bars, crisps and sweets, the only problem is he likes to pick at food, the first thing he does when he comes home from work is look in the cupboards to see what he can eat. I suggested buying lots of fruit as this would be a healthy alternative to pick at when he gets home but that went down like a lead balloon (I think I was taking the healthy option a little too far lol). He decided to have a look at low fat alternatives to the snacks he eats and spotted these Tesco Reduced Fat Milk Chocolate Digestive Biscuits, he was very pleased with himself when he brought them home because he still had biscuits to eat but they where healthier than normal ones. Packaging The packet is quite basic, it's a blue colour with a large picture...

Another Tesco Value Success!

Advantages: Great tasting, cheap!
Disadvantages: Faultless!

...I've been experimenting with Tesco value products for some time now, since the prices of basically everything has been going up, and have found the value range a good way to cut costs in the supermarket. I've been very pleased with the majority of Tesco value items that I have bought, not at all what I expected, and the Tesco Value Milk Chocolate Digestives are no exeption. The Tesco Value Milk Chocolate Digestives are made from wheat flour, milk chocolate (23%), vegetable oil, sugar, wholemeal wheat flour, glucose-fructose syrup, raising agents and salt. Each biscuit contains 85 calories (4% of your recommended daily allowance), 4.5g of sugar (5%), 3.9g of fat (6%) and 0.1g of salt (2%). The Tesco value biscuits come in 300g packs, which contains 19 biscuits each. They are packed in a thin plactic film, which is coloured in...

Diamond review  Working for Tesco

Advantages: Good pay, great benefits package
Disadvantages: Crap uniform, crap managers

...Ok, first of all, I'd just like to mention, this is a looooooooooooong review, so if you're not actually interested in reading about Tesco as an employer, then I'd suggest you don't bother as it will take some patience to get through! When I left school at the age of 18, and having decided I couldn't be bothered with university, I suddenly had to face the big bad world and go and find myself a job. I wasn't really fussy about what job I did - I've never been ambitious, and simply wanted a job where I could go to work, do my job, come home and not have to think about it. As our local Tesco is just 5 minutes away, I decided to apply there. I wrote a letter requesting an application form, and a few days later received a lovely letter and the form I had asked for. I read through the form and thought, wow, I don't know how to answer...
