Amazing Thailand

Advantages: Something for everyone
Disadvantages: So much to do, so little time

...I first went to Thailand in October 2001. I went on a two centre holiday there - Bangkok for 4 nights and Phuket for 10 nights. I have decided that because there is so much to put about all the things we (my husband and I) did and saw, I am only going to concentrate on our stay in Bangkok. Firstly, October is the end of the rainy season and so the price we paid was very good. I don't remember the exact figure but it was in the region of £1500.00 altogether. The booking was with Thomas Cook Signature Holidays, and included return flights to and from Manchester to Heathrow, Bangkok and Phuket, also included was private car transfers to and from the Thai airports and hotels and hotel accommodation (a three and a half star hotel in Bangkok - The Hotel Asia, and a four star hotel in Phuket - The Kata Thani Hotel and Beach Resort...

Thailands Gateway

Advantages: Clear direction signs, unique sight of a golf course in the middle of the runways
Disadvantages: Long walks, uncomfortable seats

...The first sight people sometimes get when landing at Don Muang airport – code BKK - is the strange sight of people playing golf in between the runways. This is just the first of many quirks you will either love or hate about Thailand and Bangkok. The golf course is actually owned by the Air Force which shares the airport. Depending on your taxi route to / from the runway you will see the military planes and hangers. The airport is actually due to be replaced by a new airport - Suvarnabhumi - being built to the north east of Bangkok which is due to open in 2004. Well, the Prime Minister said it would, so it must be true! Transport The airport itself is about 25km north from the “centre” of Bangkok. It is easily reached by car, bus or train. There is no link to the BTS Skytrain but the new one supposedly...

The Strand Palace Hotel

Advantages: Central location, clean
Disadvantages: Food, rooms

...We stayed at this hotel in London a little over a month ago now for two nights, we chose this hotel mainly because of the central location and because it was only a ten minuite walk from the show we had booked to go too. Check in was very quick - About ten minuites and the staff at the reception seemed very friendly. My first thoughts on the hotel was that it looked really clean and that it was nicely decorated and it looked modern. I was a little dissapointed with our room as it was very small and basic, our room had a double bed, tea and coffee making facilities, a tv with satellite and a small, basic en suite bathroom with a shower. The views from our room very very poor - A block of offices which made our room dark as they were so close. The hotel has two bars and two resturaunts, the bars were again nicely decorated...

Amazing Thailand

Advantages: Has it all.
Disadvantages: Be aware of scams.

...compared to everything else is quite expensive. One bottle of beer can cost between 60-160Baht (1-2.66UKP)when a meal may only cost 50baht (83p). For the first few days everything seems out of place and disorganised. It’s easy to get lost and if you don’t speak any Thai things can be difficult. A classic example was on the first day I ever went to Thailand. I hired a small motorbike one afternoon and went for a cruise around Pattaya. I didn’t pay much attention to where I was going and just went where my instinct would lead me. Not before long it was getting dark and it suddenly hit me “er …. which way is my hotel”. I didn’t have any idea where I was and had to ride around for about an hour trying to remember which road I was staying. The feeling was of great despair and comparable to when I...

Hotel International

Advantages: Location, breakfasts
Disadvantages: Poor rooms

...I recently went on a cultural girlie trip with a friend to Paris. I was left to do all the booking. I was looking for a reasonable hotel, near a metro stop, which included breakfast. I came across the Hotel International on various travel sites and it seemed fairly highly rated so I booked us in for three nights. LOCATION: The hotel is located 6 Rue Auguste Barbier in the 11th Arrondissement. The nearest Metro stop is Garcourt which was a two minute walk away and it was a five minute walk to Republique which gives good links to other lines. It's not really central enough to avoid the Metro and walk to the attractions but it was located so close to a stop that it seemed ideal. PRICE: Prices vary depending on size of room and season. There are singles, doubles and triples available. We paid Euro254 for the whole time...

Stay here - tallest building in Thailand

Advantages: Excellent service, location and large rooms
Disadvantages: Can't think of any

...This is an excellent 4* hotel. The building is the tallest building in Thailand and staying there itself is an experience. There are three zones and the lobby itself is on 18th floor. The hotel is also known as Baiyoke 2 hotel. Same taxi drivers do not know it by Baiyoke Sky but rather Baiyoke 2 Hotel so take note. Introduction: The rooms are in standard zone, sky zone and space zone. If you are staying on 22nd to 45th floor, it's the standard zone. Space zone is from 69th floor to 74th floor. Needless to say, the higher you go, you get to see more of Bangkok from your room. The rooms are all very big by even Asia standard and if you book online, the rates could be cheaper than a 3* hotel. Location: Very central location. As soon as you step out the building, the road in front of the hotel is full of stalls selling cheap (very...

Tacky Thailand

Advantages: hot weather although dry heat
Disadvantages: as above

...Some of you may be surprised at this op, because, considering the oos and aas I got when I told people I was going to Thailand you would think it was a dream destination. We waited a long time to go, and didnt relish the fourteen hour plane flight, but thought that it would all be worth it. We noticed straight away that we felt more like "cattle" than we had done on our previous holidays, from the minute we checked into the hotel, also we noticed subtle differences in the attitude with the staff. We usually stay all inclusive in a five star and it was the same here, although I could not fault the standard, the staff seemed to have a slightly different attitude than we had encountered before, i.e. when we had finished our drinks the waitress beckoned for the glasses to be passed to her, ok it sounds a bit petty...

Why backpackers love Thailand

Advantages: Cheapish, convenient for backpackers, decent roads, great massages, solid nightlife
Disadvantages: Poor diving, littered with tourists

...with a number of English words such as: ?hi,? ?welcome? and ?handsome.? If you want you can go in where they will have a couple of drinks with you and as the night progresses other things. Without, I hope, breaching the realms of offensive I?ll say the majority are not after good luvin?. Numerous stories implying this seem to have crept in to maybe give the backpackers yarns a bit of credibility. And then of course there?s the traditional Thai massage. Koh Samui is littered with massage parlours, which, contrary to popular belief, offer quite normal massages at, in western terms seems a ridiculously cheap price. Conveniently there was one right opposite our hotel which was where I met the lovely Lita. As a local who spoke reasonable English she gave me a crash course on how things worked in Thailand and assured me what the bar girls wanted...

sachas hotel

Advantages: good price,great location
Disadvantages: no window

...****Sachas hotel- Manchester**** I booked this hotel last minute as i had a job interview in Manchester and needed somewhere quite cheap ,that was also near the centre. **Location/Getting there** This hotel is located in Tibb street which is a 2 minute walk from Piccadily Gardens or 10 minutes away from Chorlton street bus station. The Train station is a little bit further away say maybe a twenty minute walk but i don't think that this is that bad .You can also get a tram from Piccadily gardens and this goes to quite a few places. You could also get a taxi to the hotel but i am not sure what parking is like if you were to take your own car. **Reception/staff** Since i had never been to Manchester before i phoned and asked the staff for directions -they were very nice and helped me out. When i got there i think i got the same...

Fantastic Hotel

Advantages: Fantastic Food
Disadvantages: Lifts are quite small

...When we decided to make a return trip to Benalmedina we opted to go to the four star Hotel Las Arenas as it was recommended by friends. It is slightly further out just opposite the Castle Bill Bill and when you cross the road it?s a flat walk all the way to the marina which is away from the large hills on which many of the other hotels are located. Reception On arrival check in was swift and at this time we opted to pay for a safety deposit box we were then handed the safe key and card key to room 524 and pointed in the direction of the lifts. On looking round reception it was laid out with tables and chairs and also had a grand piano, a small bar ,toilets and computers with internet access. There is a large board telling you about entertainment available during the day and at night. The whole area was laid out for wheelchair access...
