Advantages: a genius showcasing his talent
Disadvantages: packaged on 2 cds when the tracks would fit on one.(im lazy!)

...on offer range from pop to rock n roll to electronica to blues to heart rending ballads to country. eclectic isnt the word! free of the wildhearts riff led tunes ginger finds space in this collection to just explore his songwriting abilities plain and simple. highlights for me include the elvis costello pop sounds on "thailand uber alles". a bizarrely uptempo song about his time spent in a bangkok jail. "cars and vaginas" is just pure marc bolan with such a catchy horn-led chorus that just one listen will have you singing along for the rest of the day. "not bitter, just a little disappointed", a song about a break up, starts mellow, and just builds up to a joyous noise of frustration and anger. swiftly changing course to the beautiful "and this time im serious" and "reinventing the wheel". 2 songs back to back with a country tinge... Advantages: Consummate melodic rock.
Disadvantages: Only 3 tracks!

...to bring out the flawless harmonies even more. Next up, we have “Don’t Let Me Die Lonely”, slightly more introspective, but once again blessed with a wonderful harmonised chorus. The lyrical focus is, strangely enough, loneliness, and it takes all my restraint not to cough “Power Ballad”. The production is almost as raw as the first track, and throughout, I get this image of a band playing in an empty bar. The last track on the single is “Thailand Uber Alles”. This was inspired a period of time Ginger spent in the Bankok Hilton for “Being Drunk without a Visa” in his words. This track actually evokes, of all people, Elvis Costello, and is full of “more-bitter-than-sweet” lyrical barbs. The production on the last track seems to be slightly cleaner, confirming my suspicion... Read review

Advantages: Some superb songs
Disadvantages: The odd poor song, but not bad

...Drawn From memory is the second album from Yorkshire Indie band Embrace (who I adore.) It is a follow on to the reasonably successful Good Will Out, and they have just released their third album called If You’ve Never Been. Embrace are primarily made up of 2 brothers, Danny and Richie Mcnamara, as well as other members Steve, Mike and Mick. Unlike certain other Indie brothers they get on extremely well and lead a pretty quiet life. They are extremely popular in Thailand but greatness has so far just eluded them over here. I’m sure with offerings like this though it won’t be far. As opposed to the ballad like Good Will Out, this album is a little more rock like and easier to listen to. Advantages: One Stop Shop For Fragile Masterpieces.
Disadvantages: Could The Dancier Tracks Sound Outdated Some Day?

...at an airport in Thailand is evidence of this. Bjork made her first recording aged 13. She had been a member of the Sugarcubes before she went solo. The Sugarcubes spun off beat dramas that defined an alternative market in the mid-late eighties struggling to find its feet. Bjork's talent was their distinctive selling point though and they may have suffered without her powerful vigour. There is something magical, almost whimsical about Bjork's homeland, Iceland. The people are warm and friendly and incredibly proud of their heritage. The Icelandic landscape is barren in a spectacular type of way and some of its natural features like the volcanic spa's leave an indelible impression. Advantages: Very easy to listen to. Grows on you. Some quality tracks. Varied mix.
Disadvantages: Some are quite bland and weak.

...This album, co-written by The Robster himself, sold millions of copies and stayed at Number One in the charts for, I believe, quite a long time. Much hype was generated, and in my opinion, quite rightly too. When I first requested this album for Christmas 2002, and subsequently received it, I had to admit on first listen, myself and my family weren't too impressed with it. The first few songs do tend to melt into each other and don't really have much of an impact. Apart from the already-released 'Feel', this album had no other use for a few months. Once taking the effort to listen to it a few more times, taking it to Thailand on holiday with me, each song gained some definition and personality of their own. ~**PLAYLIST**~ 'How Peculiar' is a very mild song to listen to, but quite a trendy little tune, venturing down...
