The Thames Barrier

...I first saw the Thames Barrier when I was taken on a pleasure boat trip up the River Thames as a young lad by my parents, I remember being intrigued by it and began quizzing my father all about which I'm sure he was delighted with! The Thames Barrier is a flood control measure spanning the width of the river. Apparently it has been used over one hundred times and as recently as March of last year. When looking at the barrier it is quite impressive even if it is rather ugly! At the point which it has been built the river is over five hundred yards wide. The barrier covers this complete section and breaks the river into four different sections, each approximately two hundred feet in length. When looking at the barrier above sea-level it doesn't appear to be a barrier at all, just four Sydney opera house shaped structures spanning...

Dine Like a Mogul in Walton-on-Thames

Advantages: Excellent food and service. Convivial atmosphere. Value for money.
Disadvantages: A little off the beaten track, but otherwise none to speak of.

Imperial Hotel, Henley on Thames, Oxfordshire

This is a fairly expensive part of the world, and the Travel Inns in the area are booked up 3-4 weeks in advance. After identifying the site: http://www.4hotels.co.uk - Worth a visit if you are struggling for somewhere to stay when travelling, the site lists an excellent range of primarily B&B's, but also hotels throughout the UK. From here I discovered The Imperial Hotel, Henley-on-Thames, which I was advised was a very upmarket and expensive town. a surprising city

Advantages: a few gems - worth a short visit
Disadvantages: after a few days you may be struggling

...Kansas City is not the first city that would spring to mind for a city break, you may even be hard pushed to find it on the map and even more surprised to find that it is actually in the state of Missouri and not Kansas. However an American Travel organisation has recently named it as one of the top ten overlooked cities and while it most certainly is not like a new york or san francisco there are some gems to be had in this city. It is often nicknamed as the city of fountains as there are seemingly over 200 in the city and who knew that Kansas City is the BBQ capital of the world. And boy do they do BBQ restaurants, never being one to miss out on a speciality i paid a visit to a recommended BBQ restaurant Jack Stack Barbecue, one of 4 in downtown Kansas City. Sex and the City the Movie

Advantages: Great fashion, good story
Disadvantages: A bit cheesy

...Which film was called "Brilliant" by Cosmopolitan and "Fabulous" by Glamour? It's the Sex and the City Movie of course. Yes, four years after the New York ladies left our lives they're back and are more stylish and sexy than ever. Let me start by saying that I did actually like the movie as I know there are various opinions out there. I did like the series but I was not a die hard fan and maybe that's the difference as I have heard that some die hard fans were not 100% impressed. I always felt that the show itself was quite edgy and on the cutting edge but I thought the movie was actually quite cheesy. It was almost as if they were making fun of themselves and really playing up to their stereotypes and being quite ironic about it. That said, I thought this worked as a concept too and didn't take away from my enjoyment of the film...

...City Glam is a fragrance which was first released in 2005 by Giorgio Armani; I have always liked the Giorgio Armani fragrances and have quite a few of them in my perfume collection so as soon as I spotted City Glam in my local Chemist's I had to buy it, and I knew I would like it. I paid £25 for a small 30ml bottle of City Glam Eau De Parfum approximately 7 months ago although Boots sell a 30ml bottle of the perfume for £22 according to their website. As you can see from the picture at the top of this review the bottle of perfume is supplied in a tall cylindrical pink bottle, which City Glam written in silver lettering. I think that the bottle looks quite stylish and plain because it is supplied in a metal tin as opposed to a glass bottle. Most of the Emporio Armani fragrances for both men and women are supplied in the metal tins...
