The Fabulous Baker Boys are in town
Review of The Fabulous Baker Boys (Special Edition) by
bilbob20
Advantages: Brilliant soundtrack, and Pfeiffer's performance
Disadvantages: Its a little low key, nothing much happens
...Frank Baker is an optomistic piano player who, with his brother Jack, tours the LA bars playing his own brand of lounge music. But the act is becoming stale, and the ever cynical Jack has a huge chip on his shoulder. When the work starts to dry up, they have to do an overhaul. So they audition for a singer. In comes Susie Diamond, complete with her own attitude problem, a forty a day habit, and a voice that sends pulses racing. Susie's an ex escort looking for her own legitimate job, and wont settle to be a guest vocalist. As the duo become a threesome, the cracks in the brothers relationship starts to become ever more evident. They are forced to look at their relationship with an ongoing insightful analysis from Susie, who proves to more than just a pretty face with a pretty voice.
Real life brothers Beau and Jeff Bridges turn...

Baker Maker
Review of Cheaper By The Dozen DVD by
kirstymack80
Advantages: funny, good cast
Disadvantages: lightweight
...Tom and Kate Baker (Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt) have been married 23 years. They live in the country and their life is dominated by their 12 children. Yes people, 12 kiddies. Thus the title, the maker of Bakers. Geddit?! OK ... moving swiftly on ...!
Only 11 of their sprogs live at home. Nora, the eldest (Piper Perabo from Coyote Ugly and Slap Her, She’s French) has hooked up with Hank (Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore’s toyboy, he of Just Married fame). They live together because Tom and Kate don’t like Hank ‘sleeping over’ in their house.
Tom is offered a job as the coach to a football team, The Stallions. For him this is a dream come true – but there’s a catch. The whole family has to pack up and leave their school and friends to go and live in a big house in the city. But for Tom it’s a huge pay rise.
Cue removal...

Same Old, Same Old
Review of The Baker DVD by
sghawken
Advantages: ..........................
Disadvantages: Its all so terribly 1940's, but not in a good way
...The Baker is very simple British comedy about a hired killer who decides to take a softer touch with one of his hired hits. Offering the man an option to simply disappear rather than be executed, the news about Milo's (Damien Lewis) lenience gets back to his employer and Milo finds himself a target for killing. In order to escape his fate Milo puts New York behind him and heads to the Welsh countryside and a small rural town. After a suspicious arrival the locals start enquiring more into Milo's life who now claims to be a baker. It's not long before the locals led by Eggs (Dyfan Dwyfor) start to doubt his baking experience, and realise that he is (or rather was) a hired killer, in a small town where little arguments get out of control everyone knows somebody they want dead.
The Baker starts very promising but very quickly loses its...
