...Branston Baked Beans...................
I am very partial to baked beans on toast (covered in cheese) or indeed I have been known to eat them cold straight from the can either way I have always bought Heinz as they are literally the ultimate baked bean. However as Branston Baked Beans have been on special offer in Tesco's recently (buy 4 for £1) I snapped them up and was pleasantly surprised.
The Branston Baked Bean tin design is a lot different from that of the Heinz tin. Of course it still has a picture of some beans on the front but instead of the Heinz green label Branston's is silver and looks just as good as its rival.
The beans inside the tin look pretty much the same as Heinz with the thick red/orange sauce and the tin full to the top with beans and juice. The smell again is practically the same only Branston...

Bargain Beans
Advantages: cheap, taste and smell good
Disadvantages: Well we all know what too many beans means!
...Always on the lookout for a bargain and a way to save a few pennies I was pleased when I came across a new brand of beans in my local Tesco. Hubby just does not like the value beans so I was buying Tesco?s own brand but as these can in at over 10p a can cheaper I decided to give them a go.
~~OAK LANE~~
Oak Lane are a new brand of foods which Tesco have taken on and advertise as their ?discount brand?. it is available on a lot of products in store and I have personally found every one which I have tried to be of good quality. The price of this brand always seems to match the Tesco Value price.
~~THE TIN~~
The beans come in the standard metal tin which unfortunately does not have a ring pull on top but this is no problem if you have a can opener. The label is wrapped around the tin and is a blue colour and has the Oak Lane...

BEANS, BEANS, FULL OF BEANS!
Advantages: Cheap and good quality
Disadvantages: No ring pull can lid, sauce runny
...Review of Sainsbury's Economy Baked Beans.
As regular readers of my reviews may have gathered, I am living on a very modest budget, credit crunch, early retirement and other factors mean that I do have to watch my pennies, hence my recent purchase of these baked beans!
The Product
Baked Beans in tomato sauce are a popular dish in many households. We don't actually eat them as an accompaniment to meals, but as a source of protein in recipes. Being a vegetarian, I tend to obtain most of my protein intake from beans, pulses or legumes and the humble baked beans is a quick and easy way to add texture, interest and substance to a vegetarian meal. Not only are they full of protein, they are low in fat and contain valuable dietary fibre. Baked beans also provide important vitamins and minerals, including iron, folic acid, zinc...

Technicolour Dream Beans
Advantages: lots of realistic flavours
Disadvantages: expensive, hard to get hold of
...All children love sweets right? All children love all sweets? Wrong. As a child there were few sweets that I was wary of. They included anything to do with liquorice and for some bizarre reason jelly beans. You see I had a bad experience with an inferior brand of jelly bean that took me quite a few years to get over. Thankfully with the love and support of my family (namely my mother who kept on buying my sister and I quality jelly beans for Christmas) I got over this phobia with a new experimental therapy. I call this therapy The Jelly Belly Treatment.
Let?s face it jelly beans are a very American thing. In the grand old days of the British Sweet shop they would have been laughed out of town for being too small and too uniform, too perfect in shape and size. For some reason British sweets have a tendency to be huge irregular...

BEAN!
Advantages: A few good scenes
Disadvantages: Where's the holiday?
...There's something about Mr. Bean that is very family friendly, I suppose it could be down to the most violent thing he has ever done is slam his yellow mini door or cut off someones poney tail in a hairdressing mix-up, or it could just be that the silent character brings everyone together in a humerous fashion. I sat down to watch Mr Bean's Holiday the other weekend, and as I was much younger when I saw his first Hollywood outing I wasn't sure what to expect - I remember liking the first movie, and if the movie saw a combination of some of his greatest sketches then it should have been a big hit for me. With my mum coming in and out of the room every now and again, it was interesting to get a diverse view of how older viewers found the movie and how me, perhaps someone growing up too quickly, found the movie as someone in their late...

NOT A HAS BEAN.
Advantages: SATISFYING TO GROW YOURSELF.
Disadvantages: fOUR MONTHS OF LOVE AND CARE, WHEN YOU CAN JUST BUY THEM IN A SUPERMARKET!
...I don't recall what sparked the idea, but March 2005, my husband and I decided to try our hand at growing vegetables. We realised it was a very un-cool and un-hip thing for a young couple, to be doing in their spare time. But, we felt inspired.
Dressed in disguise; so, not to be noticed by our peers, we went in search for vegetable seeds in the garden centre. Amongst the vegetables we had decided to grow, were broad beans: my favourite vegetable.
We found broad beans seeds; being sold by 'Thompson & Morgan' for around, two pounds. There were around fifty seeds in the pack and looked basically, like dried out broad beans, as served at the dinner table.
Arriving home, feeling motivated, we researched how to propagate these seeds.

First of all, the soil where you plan to plant the beans needs to be prepared. This is done...

Spilling some inconsistent beans?.
Advantages: An easy read, relatively interesting
Disadvantages: Inconsistencies, and possible lies
......................................................................................
Intro
Having decided to force myself back into reading while on the train (rather than staring aimlessly at sheep), I came across ?Spilling the Beans? by Clarissa Dickson Wright on the charity book list at work (books for 25p), and I do like autobiographies. I bought the book knowing nothing except that Clarissa was one of the ?Two Fat Ladies? (from the cookery programme in the late 1990s) - the one who hadn?t died (hence the book!), and that she was from quite a privileged background, and an alcoholic.
The Book
Published in hardback in 2007, and paperback in 2008, my copy is 316 pages long including the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous and excluding a fairly extensive but selective index (i.e. I couldn?t find the thing I wanted to...

Beans & Sausages...
Advantages: Good taste, nice sausages, very cheap, recyclable can
Disadvantages: No ring pull, beans aren't Heinz (but then they don't cost Heinz money).
...I recently purchased these when looking for some bargain lunch items from my local Tesco store.
The can is aluminium and has a paper label with the familiar Tesco value logo as well as the heating instruction & nutritional information. There is no ring pull on the can but it's very easy to open with a can opener and this helps to keep the product nice and cheap so I don't mind at all.
Once the can is opened I can see beans in tomato sauce with a few mini sausages poking out and it looks quite well proportioned as I throw the contents in to a saucepan and put them on the hob for a few minutes. I warm them through for about 5 minutes (without boiling them) whilst I am waiting for my toast to cook in the toaster.
Once my toast is ready and buttered I spread the beans & sausages over the toast along with all of the tomato sauce...

To bean or not to bean
Advantages: Good value, tasty, nutritious, versatile.
Disadvantages: You need to like baked beans.
...If you are a lover, or buyer, of Baked Beans I guess you will have noticed how expensive they have become lately. Well relatively so. Unless you are absolutely loaded, money wise, I would think that you could not have failed to notice this rapid price hike. Even the cheap beans at Netto, which started out at 9p a tin, are now 29p. Heinz Baked beans are over 50p a tin unless you get a good offer so what alternatives are there?.
Well to my mind Branston Baked Beans are a good option and I shall try and tell you why.
At present a multi-pack of 4 large tins of Branston Baked Beans, hereafter to be called BBB, retail in Netto for a mere £1.19. That makes them slightly cheaper than Netto's traditional cheap beans which were ok for 9p a tin, but not for 29p.
Branston of course are more well known for their pickles and sauces which are...

Posh Jelly Beans
Advantages: Lovely flavours
Disadvantages: Mint Sorbet
...Gourmet beans by the Jelly Bean Factory are a cut above the average jelly bean, however they are ridiculously expensive, the Jelly Bean Can which I have costs £6.00 in Debenhams, and only contains 400g.
There is a reason why they are so expensive though, they have much better flavours than your average jelly bean, and they have a greater variety of flavours, 36 in all, ranging from lemon and lime and south seas kiwi to pina colada and cafe latte.
The flavours are printed on the back of the packaging along with pictures of the different colours, so you can eat them in two ways. Firstly you can pick out the flavours you really like by identifying the bean, or you can play guess the flavour by checking up afterwards. This is actually pretty easy as the flavours do taste like what they are supposed to taste like.
I first tried them by...
