Advantages: Real musiciansip & great production

...This was Seals solo album, released in 1991. I'd only heard of him through the song "Killer", which was credited to Adamski, but the voice had me hooked. I rushed out and bought this without having heard anything else of his and I wasn't disappointed. We start with "The Beginning". Very much in the soul style of the early 90's, this is very danceable and with Seal's great voice and the work of ZTT in production, this is very slick. Grab yourself a bean bag for the second track "Deep Water" and just chill. On this song it's Seal's vocals that carry this rather than being reliant on any background music, but he does it so well. Again the production is sublime. This is another well known song on the album, "Crazy" which I remember getting masses of airplay when the Gulf War started. The first disc covers the period that the band had pre-Dave Grohl, including superb radio recordings of tracks such as ‘Mrs. Butterworth’ and ‘Anorexorcist’, as well as home demos of the superb ‘Even In His Youth’ and ’Polly‘. As much as this set is supposedly the ultimate insight into Nirvana’s music, a hilarious version of ’Beans’, containing helium filled vocals, does little to damage the entertainment factor of the set, showing that Cobain was more than a depressive loner. Advantages: Beanie Sigel's Best Album So Far
Disadvantages: Lack of Track only 15!!!

...Philly native Beanie Sigel is not one of the best emcees. He rhymes with such a high degree of heartfelt intent that when he speaks, you listen. What he says, you believe with no questions asked, end of story. Throughout his career that has been the quintessence of Beanie Sigel, he has represented reality. While The Truth served as his raw street narrated introduction to the world, The Reason strayed away from his formula as he experimented with flows and rhymes. Nevertheless his painstaking current LP, The B. Coming, has Sigel coming full circle and turning in his most heartfelt introspective album to date. The impressive 15-track offering has Sigel rhyming with conviction in his voice. The caliber in which perhaps only a Scarface or Styles P can currently match up to. Advantages: Thrilling, daredevil chamber music performances from the legendary Martha Argerich and partner-in-crime Gidon Kremer.
Disadvantages: Violinist Kremer occasionally on the mannered, spastic side; only forty-three minutes of music.

...for me, but could be one for bean counters. (Bean counters cannot be true music lovers!) Far more vital is the enjoyment I get from the performances themselves than the mere quantity of music on hand. Returning to the Question Posed in the Title: Who Wins? It really depends on one’s likes and temperament. If you feel that Beethoven should reflect a certain measure of formality and elegance, something akin to a dignified and decorous salon piece, then the Mutter-Orkis recording may please you more. (For what it’s worth, the complete recordings of Mutter-Orkis of the Beethoven sonata cycle won a Classical Music Grammy ® for Best Chamber Music Performance in 2000.)
