The bible - a different view
Review of The Bible by
NoMeansNo
Advantages: Everything
Disadvantages: Everything
...I wrote this piece in December 99 at Epinions.com, now I want to share thse thoughts with you (and compare the comments because the ones I got at Epinions were really wild!!! I needed to delete the same editorial at Epinions, because the Terms of Use forbid duplications).
Here is my very personal and somewhat different experience with the bible. Being grown up and raised in a former communist country (the German “Democratic” Republic) we did not really have any connection to religions and the bible or any other philosophical literature. In fact Christianity has been unofficially banned and pressured so that we simply (everything is simple for a kid when no other choice is available) did not learn anything about it. And: we (the East German youth) got the impression that the church would be some place where bloodless...

The Bible As I See It
Review of The Bible by
Mickie26
Advantages: Is a great learning source, It is a living book of God and shows us the way to live.
Disadvantages: I realise that my review is biased on the Christian side of view, sorry about that.
...The Bible
This is going to be difficult for me to review because I am a born again Christian and I want to do the Bible justice. I feel a little strange about writing a review of the Bible because it is so personal to me and I guess I am a little afraid I might get some harsh come back from people.
I love the Bible because it brings insight, wisdom and knowledge to areas in life that we might be having difficulties with. There are many different versions of the Bible and my husband and I own roughly about 20 - 30 Bibles. Yes, we collect them. We have Bibles with pictures in. Bibles that are very old. Some Bibles that are very modern like The Street Bible by Rob Lacey. We also have a big dramatised Bible that has the Scriptures laid out in script. As long as the Bible is the Christian version and does not digress into Mormon...

Same bible...with pictures...
Review of The Lion Graphic Bible - Jeff Anderson & Mike Maddox by
Secre
Advantages: Many...
Disadvantages: Not many...
...And so we are onto Bible no.4 in the epic search for a youth bible, which is (more or less) a far superior version of the manga bible...right, you know the basics now so anyone who is not interested can now disappear. Assuming that I still have any readers I will continue into the main review...and I know the title is not particularly original but its 6am and I've been up all night writing for the bloody vicar...can you blame me!?
Boring stuff

THE BIBLE AS I SEE IT.
Review of The Bible by
thingywhatsit
Advantages: Wonderful opportunity to learn.
Disadvantages: Not the easiest book to read.
...I know that a lot of readers find the subject of the Bible a little uncomfortable and question, in their disbelief of God, the relevance of a book like this in their lives, and that many readers may also question my right to review such a book. I am not going to review in the traditional way, i.e. contents, length, price, etc., too much at all. For me, the importance of telling people a little more about how I believe it can enhance their lives, is far more important.
You could ask yourself if I am significant enough a writer to be able to write a review about such a great book, and here I would argue that the Bible was written for everyone, and without going into the intricacies of the Bible in a "Bible thumping" manner, if I pursuade one person to read it and to change their view about what the Bible offers an individual, then I...

Good News Bible - Another Translation
Review of Good News Bible: Sunrise Edition (Good News Bible) by
gt5952
Advantages: Easy to read and understand
Disadvantages: Not everyones cup of tea yet
...The Good news Bible is another translation of the Bible from the Greek and Hebrew texts into English, it is an easy to read version, that is quite simple to understand.
In comparisson to other translations, it is quite good, however, one feels the effort used for versions such as the New International Version, or even the New Century Version of the bible is somewhat lacking, however, this version has spoken with its sales, as one of the best selling versions available in the UK.
The Good News Bible was the first truly easy-to-read Bible translation, and it is still the UK\'s most popular. The Sunrise edition is a firm favourite, and is ideal for church and school use alike. First sold as \'Good News for Modern Man\', the Good News Bible was a bestseller from its first publication, providing a unique combination of accessibility...

THE BIBLE / DEJA - VU and ANCIENT BABYLONIANS
Review of The Bible by
coleecip
Advantages: Useful information / interesting histories
Disadvantages: see below
...****UPDATE **** UPDATE*****UPDATE****
I have now proof read this review and also added some new information following the interesting account of Tomb 15 in the Valley of the Kings
Anyway I hope you enjoy this somewhat positivist account of The Bible and see what I am trying to say.......
IMPORTANT START NOTE
To those who know me and my style - you will know to read everything before you decide your opinion - for those who are new to my reviews - I hold no prejudices / no ulterior motive and you will not achieve anything if you read the first sentence or skip through quickly. As this is an important subject, and certainly an expansive one, I do not hope to cover all points, but throughout please bear this in mind:
I know my theology
I know my archaeology
I know my psychology / sociology and even anthropology
I do...

You Can Trust the Bible
Review of The Bible by
freaklikeme
Advantages: Gives Hope and a Reason for Living
Disadvantages: None
...The Holy Scriptures or The Bible is the inspired word of God and is acknowledged by many as the greatest book of all times because of its age, its total circulation and the number of languages into which it has been translated.
It is a great literacy masterpiece and one which contains great importance for all mankind.
The Bible imitates no other book ever written and gives credit to its author - the True God.
It is a book that has survived more violent controversy than any other book and has many enemies that hate it.
Some have said that the Bible is unreliable and their views have gained wide acceptance in society, because of that we see many people dismiss what the Bible has to say as untrustworthy.
On the other hand, what Jesus said in prayer to God should help us to trust what the Bible has to say - Jesus said "Your...

Thank God for The Bible
Review of The Bible by
toepunt10
Advantages: Good moral code to live by, entertaining stories
Disadvantages: Intolerant, extreme and needs to be interpreted
...Please not that this review is in places critical of the Bible. I do not mean to cause anyone any offence or distress and have merely given my views and opinions on the Bible.
Ahhh the Bible, what a whimsical tale of the world as it was 'back in the day'. Its accuracy has always been a talking point, with even Christians disagreeing on who wrote it. It varies from being the direct word of God, his word written through others and even individual's interpretations of God and his teachings. With this aside, it is basically a storybook, one which spawned two of the biggest religions today. I have never read the Bible in its entirety, but having a religious education from a young age, I have been exposed to a large part of it. I have to say that some of the stories are quite horrific, not unlike the holocaust, which is undoubtedly one...

The Bible: a historical perspective
Review of The Bible by
steerpyke
Advantages: one of the most complex and fascinating books ever
Disadvantages: one of the most abused and misunderstood books ever
...The Bible is a very difficult subject to write about. Its text that has shaped the western world, if not the world as a whole, it's a book that contains subjects as big as creation and as small as a single kiss. It is a book that documents the rise and fall of empires and armies and the lives of ordinary people; it is a book that covers thousands of years in its scope and the most famous last hours of anyone in history. It is a book that has created the basis for one of the most powerful religious institutions in history and yet is regarded as the most personal individual message. In short it is an enigma. So how do you discuss such a book, where do you begin? I will begin by explaining my angle.
There seem to be two opposite camps that people fall into when the Bible is the subject for discussion. The devout see the writing...

The bible is inspired by God.
Review of The Bible by
carriethorn
Advantages: Gives best way of life
Disadvantages: none
...'The bible gets its name from the Latin word biblia which means lttle books. We are all familiar with the word library which comes from the same verb. The bible you see is made up of 66 little books.
It is split into different parts because of the different periods of mankinds history.
The first 39 books of the bible where written in Hebrew and Aramaic and covers mankinds history from when the earth was created in Genesis right up till Malachi.
Then the books Matthew to Revelation where origionally written in Greek. This covers the life of Jesus and shows why he came down from heaven and gave his life as a ransom.
The Bible was penned by over 40 different authors over a period of 1600 years or 16 centuries. These were very diverse selection of people as well because they included Kings, a Tax collector, shepherds...
