The Bible As I See It
Review of The Bible by  Mickie26

Advantages: Is a great learning source, It is a living book of God and shows us the way to live.
Disadvantages: I realise that my review is biased on the Christian side of view, sorry about that.

...is definitely God breathed. A lot of people pick and choose which pieces of the Bible they like and live off them, but that is not the way to read the Bible. There are many different ways to read the Bible, but not just to take bits out of it as that is dangerous. If you want to find out something that is troubling you there is no doubt that it will be most likely in the Bible, but you have to read the whole chapter about your problem and not just part of it. For example, an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth is what the old Testament people taught, but if you listen to this on it's own without what Jesus said about it then it sounds like the Bible is saying it is o.k. to get revenge. Jesus says, "Forgive your enemies and pray for those who persecute you." You cannot take one without the other the whole Bible fits together like a jigsaw... Read review

THE BIBLE / DEJA - VU and ANCIENT BABYLONIANS
Review of The Bible by  coleecip

Advantages: Useful information / interesting histories
Disadvantages: see below

...on the other hand is well known and as you may have noticed - is exactly the same. So who was this Horus - well he comes from the same place as Osiris and Isis and Ra - he is Egyptian and his story dates back almost as far as the dating of the first story of the Old Testament. There are many more parallels with the story of Horus and the story of Jesus, and purely from the above I hope we can see that there is a danger that I am about to call The Bible a cheap schoolboy's plagiarisation. However - this story has more mileage because I mentioned earlier the Gospel According to Judas - this was discovered in the 1940s and only recovered for restoration in 2002. (Certain people wanted more money that people wanted to pay) The Judas Gospel is what is known as a Gnostic text. So a quick note is needed (a very basic definition) AGNOSTIC... Read review

Same bible...with pictures...
Review of The Lion Graphic Bible - Jeff Anderson & Mike Maddox by  Secre

Advantages: Many...
Disadvantages: Not many...

...it doesn't expect the reader to know it explains...but again, not in a patronising fashion; ' they called the boat 'the ark' meaning chest or box, for it contained the future of all life on earth.' I mean, we all know that Noah built an ark, but to give credit I didn't know the actual explanation before I read this. While I am on the subject of not being patronising as heck (unlike certain other Bibles), I will note that it doesn't exclude long words or names purely because they might be difficult, an example here would be 'Mesopatamia', nor is the language overly Americanised...which would just make it annoying to read. (Even though they still change 'forsaken' into 'abandoned'...and I still say forsaken is better.' One of my favourite points with the language use would be the scene with Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane, this is a scene I... Read review

The Bible: a historical perspective
Review of The Bible by  steerpyke

Advantages: one of the most complex and fascinating books ever
Disadvantages: one of the most abused and misunderstood books ever

...history, almost. This parallel neatly illustrates one of the problems you have to deal with when understanding such a work. Whereas names such as Moses, David, Solomon, Saul and even Jesus himself are well known names, they are not the names we need to use to find their historical counter parts in the written record of the times. The Bible was carried around in a host of different languages, translated into Aramaic then Greek, Latin and finally English and in the process the names of people and places have been changed out of all recognition. It is the events that these characters lived through that enable us to find them. For example if we look for a young warrior who lead a band of mercenaries, who established a new dynasty we find a parallel for David, if we look for the son of such a man who lived through a time of peace we find Solomon... You Can Trust the Bible
Review of The Bible by  freaklikeme

Advantages: Gives Hope and a Reason for Living
Disadvantages: None

...The Holy Scriptures or The Bible is the inspired word of God and is acknowledged by many as the greatest book of all times because of its age, its total circulation and the number of languages into which it has been translated. It is a great literacy masterpiece and one which contains great importance for all mankind. The Bible imitates no other book ever written and gives credit to its author - the True God. It is a book that has survived more violent controversy than any other book and has many enemies that hate it. Some have said that the Bible is unreliable and their views have gained wide acceptance in society, because of that we see many people dismiss what the Bible has to say as untrustworthy. On the other hand, what Jesus said in prayer to God should help us to trust what the Bible has to say - Jesus said "Your... Read review

Face the Facts About the Bible
Review of The Bible by  lawrensons

Advantages: KEY TO ETERNAL LIFE
Disadvantages: ONLY IF YOU DON'T READ IT

...Did you know that worldwide, there are 34,932 Bibles sold on an average day? That’s 244,524 every week, or 1,059,604 every month, or 12.7 million every year. What difference does it make to our world and in the communities in which we live? The problem? Application. When people apply the Bible to their lives drastic results occur. When they stop seeing it as just a good book, just a book of morals, just a book of stories, or just a book of commandments They see a person in need of a Saviour – that person is you and I – the Saviour is Jesus How can I trust the Bible? Manuscript Evidence thats how. There were a special class of Jews called scribes and Massoretes whose sole duty & responsibility was to preserve & transmit these documents with perfection. We have today about 24,600 copies of New Testament manuscripts, many date back... Read review

The bible is inspired by God.
Review of The Bible by  carriethorn

Advantages: Gives best way of life
Disadvantages: none

...'The bible gets its name from the Latin word biblia which means lttle books. We are all familiar with the word library which comes from the same verb. The bible you see is made up of 66 little books. It is split into different parts because of the different periods of mankinds history. The first 39 books of the bible where written in Hebrew and Aramaic and covers mankinds history from when the earth was created in Genesis right up till Malachi. Then the books Matthew to Revelation where origionally written in Greek. This covers the life of Jesus and shows why he came down from heaven and gave his life as a ransom. The Bible was penned by over 40 different authors over a period of 1600 years or 16 centuries. These were very diverse selection of people as well because they included Kings, a Tax collector, shepherds... Read review

Thank God for The Bible
Review of The Bible by  toepunt10

Advantages: Good moral code to live by, entertaining stories
Disadvantages: Intolerant, extreme and needs to be interpreted

...those responsible for these sins. These are both examples of stories in the Old Testament and occurred before Jesus was sent to earth to forgive the sins of humanity. The New Testament is a little less 'vengeful' and is definitely more moderate in terms of its content. There are a number of issues which the Bible takes a very hard line view on, say for example homosexuality, gambling, murder and so on. Whilst murder is obviously wrong and should be classified as a sin, the others are less clear. Gambling could be seen as a sin, as it can lead people to become addicted and can have undesired social implications. Homosexuality however is seen by the bible as an "abomination" and any man lying with another man is committing a serious sin. To call homosexuals abominations seems at best extremely harsh and has no place in modern society... Read review

Jesus saves - but Moses tucks away the rebound
Review of The Bible by  superpricee

Advantages: It can be a fun read as a historical storybook
Disadvantages: Oh dear. Where do I start...?

...of every species of animal ON THE PLANET on to a boat to survive a flood (here's a thought - what did they eat if everything was underwater?). Jesus was resurrected. The list goes on......... Secondly, there's a burning question - who actually WROTE the bible? Anybody know? How can you possibly believe in something that is so incredibly vague, written so long ago, and by an anonymous author? I think it's fair to say that the bible doesn't translate too well into modern life (hey, maybe there's even been stuff lost in the translation from the original hebrew!!), and it's pretty irrelevant. There IS some good stuff in there, don't get me wrong - the 10 commandments (generally) seem to be decent advice, and so on. But there's some things that really don't seem too clever. Like it's alright to hit women. Or your kids. Or to have people put... Read review

Touch and Feel Bible Stories
Review of Touch and Feel Bible Stories - Touch & Learn by  RClure

Advantages: Great for teaching both stories from the Bible and about textures
Disadvantages: -

...This book will grow with children as it is suitable for toddlers up to children about 7 years old. ~~~ OVERVIEW ~~~ We received both this book and a 'Peek and Find' Bible Stories book by the same publisher when our son was dedicated (see notes below) at 6 months of age. This book however states that it is not suitable for babies less than 10 months, I think because of the materials used in the touchy bits. We never worried about this though and encouraged our son, whilst on our knee, to feel the different textures. It is a hard card book so is really robust and the front cover has an area where the tiger's tummy is cut out so you can feel through to the furry tiger on the first page. It includes just 5 stories: Creation: Noah and the Flood; Moses in the basket; Jonah; and the First Christmas. ~~~ ILLUSTRATIONS... Read review
