My Dying Bride - Turn Loose the Swans
Review of Turn Loose The Swans - My Dying Bride by  bagoproverbial

Advantages: Original, intense, powerful, melodic, epic
Disadvantages: An acquired taste for those who don't like a challenge!

...guitar, and singer Aaron's guttural death-metal vocals accompanying the almost shocking strength and heaviness of the music... before all becomes peaceful again- he abruptly changes vocal style to a what amounts to a plaintive cry of despair. Everything about this album is epic. The song titles say it all- beautiful but haunting names such as "The Songless Bird", "Black God", "The Snow In My Hands", "Your River"... This album is also one of contrasts- between a dark, uncomfortable solitude and sudden fury. "Turn Loose the Swans" showcases My Dying Bride at their very best. If you're a fan of progressive doom-metal, goth-metal or even the older death-metal, your collection deserves this album. (Just adding a bit more!) - the album also stands up very well against the band's other releases- almost of which are great. The band have a sound... Read review

Lovely Toast
Review of Swan ST7020 4 Slice by  Foxy1982

Advantages: High Lift Feature, Even Toasting
Disadvantages: No Vartiable Toasting Slots

...Having just finished my breakfast and at a loss for what to do today, I am going to review the very toaster that just moments ago provided me with 4 slices of golden and crispy toast. I have had The Swan ST7020 toaster for a few months now and I got it as part of a Swan kettle and toaster pack from the Littlewoods catalogue. The double pack cost me £49 and I am unaware of how much you can purchase the ST7020 toaster for on its own. The toaster itself has a stainless steel finish with a black plastic platform and also the control panel is on black plastic. It looks stylish and modern and fits nicely in the corner of my sideboard. The Swan ST7020 is a 4 Slice toaster with the option of toasting 2 slices or 4 slices as it is split into 2 sections, Each section able to toast 2 slices with its own push down lever. The toaster doesn... Read review

Six Ways to Shift Stubborn Swans
Review of Everything that starts with I ... by  dragonhelmuk

Advantages: A tale of Legendary Beasts, Heros and MonsterMunch addictions. Explore tested methods of evading evil.
Disadvantages: Peril and Danger, Local Savages in league with the beasts, Dire Future forseen for all.

...-one would out-tech me on the weapons front. However, I did resolve to lengthen my stride somewhat, so as to make it home quicker. As I stepped under a blackened bridge however, something checked my confident walk. In front of me, just on the opposite side of the bridge slept an entire brood of swans. There are currently two families of swans living on the canal path. One group of four, (two adults two cygnets) and the more aggressive family of nine (two adults, seven cygnets). Facing me now was the family of nine. One head snapped up and glared at me balefully. There seemed, in the dim glow of the moon to be something strange about that eye, something which flickered dark light in the black recesses of its' globe. If the eyes are a gateway to the soul, then I would have to say that swans get grumpy about their sleep. Looking into that foul... Read review

A Hidden Section
Review of Regent´s Park (London) by  cinty

Advantages: Great in the summer, peaceful
Disadvantages: Can be bad for hayfever sufferers

...There is a section of Regents Park that is really beautiful. It's the rose garden section and it looks great in summer. A lot of people who have registry weddings go there to take their photo's. Just around the corner from this section is the duck pond which has to large swans aswell, one white and the other black. To the right of the pond is a long path that goes behind some bushes, keep following that path and it will take you up onto an open space with a bench that looks down onto a small waterfall. It's a great lovers spot and not many people know about it.... Read review

“Ink isn’t worth anything to me”
Review of Phantom Of The Paradise (Wide Screen) by  ThePolarOne

Advantages: Catchy songs, Fun story
Disadvantages: Low budget, Somewhat dated

...was Bud the Chud,1989) plays Beef wonderfully. Totally over the top and very amusing. Almost a match for Dr Frank-N-Furter himself. One of the most important aspects to making this film work is the Production Design from Jack Fisk. He got special thanks from David Lynch for his help on Eraserhead (1977) and has gone on to work on The Thin Red Line (1998) and Mulholland Drive (2001). Phantom of the Paradise is quite a gaudy film. There is a large varied use of colour on the sets. Swan’s ‘Death Records’ office is a spiralling black and white piece of 60’s chic. While the Paradise is a more traditional theatre with corridors filled with mirrors and bright curtains. The Paradise’ debut show is also done well, using elements of Frankenstein and the Grim Reaper. It actually made me want to go and see the whole show. Despite being unable to shake... Read review

Definitely the best era of Billy Swan
Review of Billy Swan/Four - Billy Swan by  prom22

Advantages: Fantastic tracks
Disadvantages: Does not include "I Can Help"

...In 1976 I was listening to Billy Swan singing "I Just Want to Taste Your Wine" and enjoying a long, hot summer! At the time I bought the original LP (yes, vinyl!) - the one entitled "Billy Swan" with the grey border - and loved every track on it, which was pretty amazing because for me the odds of that are astronomical!! So when I saw this combination CD advertised I decided to indulge my nostalgia and buy it - and no, I was NOT disappointed with the other 10 tracks from the original LP entitled "Four". All together this CD provides a history of what I think is the best period of Billy Swan's career and it certainly takes you back to those lazy days of summer (when it really was hot all the time!).... Watch this - or walk the plank!!!!
Review of Pirates Of The Caribbean - The Curse Of The Black Pearl DVD by  looby27

Advantages: Romance, comedy, action, adventure, horror...
Disadvantages: There hasnt been a sequel yet!!

...This is an ABSOLUTELY fantastic film, I watched it at the cinema only beacause the film i wanted to see was full but I'm so glad it was because it's now one of my all time favourite films!! There is so much going on in this film I dont know where to start! In brief, Pirate Jack Sparrow (johnny Depp) sets out to save the governor's daughter Elizabeth Swan (Keira Knightly) from fellow pirates with the hope that it will give him the opportunity to regain the ship (The Black Pearl) that was stolen from him. He is accopanied by a blacksmith called Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) who is secretly in love with Miss Swan and desperately wants to save her but on their travels he discovers about his past and how he himself comes from Pirate descent. The acting in this film is outstanding, especially by that of Johnny Depp whose role as a pirate... Read review

Pirates of the Caribbean review
Review of Pirates Of The Caribbean - The Curse Of The Black Pearl DVD by  thepunisher

Advantages: great soundtrack, good action sequences, great sets, characters
Disadvantages: none

...I really enjoyed this movie, not only when I watched it in the cinema, but also the DVD. Captan Jack Sparrow, played by Johnny Depp, really keeps the the audience going with his witty remarks and the well developed character. The movie centers around the Black Pearl and its crew of undead lead by Captain Barbossa. In there search for the last coin of the gold of the Aztecs, they stumble upon a grown up Will Turner, played by Orlando Bloom and his love interest Elizabeth Swan, played by Keira Knightly. This movie is a fast paced action movie in the typical way of Jerry Bruckheimer, with good action sequences, an amazing soundtrack, great location and set pieces. And even if you aren't a fan of pirates you will still enjoy the mix of enjoyable jokes pulled by Jack Sparrow and Will, the romantic interaction between Will and Elizabeth... Read review

A wicked night
Review of The Demon Barbers in York by  Galadriel1010

Advantages: Stunning band, thrilling show, thoroughly brilliant
Disadvantages: It had to end, and I had a sore throat whe it did

...The Demon Barbers, Live at York Theatre Royal For several years now, the Demon Barbers have been lighting up the folk scene with their energy and innovation. Their roadshow includes high voltage musical talent, with a wide range of styles and influences, and a selection of the best dancers in the folk world at the moment, if not of all time. Their pet Rapper and Cotswold sides, Black Swan Rapper and Dogrose Morris are among the very best; with Black Swan receiving regular awards at the Dancing England Rapper Tournament, and Dogrose widely considered to be the best Cotswold team around. The Theatre Royal Show included their usual roadshow, along with a brand new pilot, organized by their leader, Damien Barber, and involving traditional dance, break dancing, beat boxing and Stomp-inspired percussion. The atmosphere at the gig... Read review

The Eraser
Review of The Eraser by  misssaxyness

Advantages: Great Lyrics, Original Sound.
Disadvantages: Possibly a bit samey at some points.

...Track Listing: The Eraser, Analyse, The Clock, Black Swan, Skip Divided, Atoms For Peace, And It Rained All Night, Harrowdown Hill, Cymbal Rush. Many people, myself included, were waiting with bated breath for the release of The Eraser. Having been a Radiohead fan for as long as i can remember being into music, i have enjoyed watching Radiohead change and grow from depressing and sad, to expressive and mad - with Thom Yorke's darker and more personal influences moulding a new type of sound for the band. Kid A saw the cross-roads emerge for Radiohead, and won them as many fans as they lost with the change in direction. It's those experimental melodies intertwined with dark forcing trip-hop beats, nicely sliced with jazz and Thom's trademark delicate voice, that paved the way for The Eraser. The title track is first up, and it... Read review
