Jolly Carlton Hotel - Amsterdam

Advantages: Friendly staff, modern decor, lots of handy facilities, great location
Disadvantages: Rooms are a bit on the small side and cramped

...the best available double room when we got to the hotel. The hotel that we had booked was the four star 'Jolly Carlton'. I had a look on the internet and it seemed wonderful. We were told that check in wasn't until 2pm, but when we arrived in Amsterdam in the morning, we though that we would go to the hotel to see if we could leave our luggage there so we didn't have to drag it around the city until 2pm. The hotel is about a 15 minute walk from the central station, which we managed no problem, even with our luggage. If you don't want to walk then there are also several trams you can take, either from the central station or from the centre of the town, though it really isn't that far and it is a fairly flat road all the way, and it means you can window shop as you walk! Carlton Bilbao - another travellers tale!

...The first time I stayed at the Carlton it was entirely accidental. I had flown from Madrid to Bilbao with a Spanish colleague probably 10 years ago and our flight was so late that the hotel where we had bookings had given our rooms away to someone else. It was late, we were tired and grouchy and they offered to find us 2 rooms somewhere else. The Carlton - being the best (and most expensive) hotel in town - had two rooms. The Carlton - not quite as good as it sounds, for us anyway

Advantages: Very clean; has an ATM in the lobby; polite and helpful English-speaking reception staff
Disadvantages: No restaurants within easy reach; 25% charged on top of advertised food and drink prices

...We stayed one night at the Carlton Hotel, Damascus recently on a whistlestop (independent, rather than organised) tour of Syria. Hotel reservations for the trip had been made on our behalf by a Syrian travel agency, who assured us that accommodation had been booked but did not actually advise the names of the specific hotels, so we had been unable to do any "checking up" in advance. Having spent the previous night in a beautiful hotel in the centre of old Aleppo (the Dar Maria, located in sympathetically restored old houses with lovely courtyards, fountains etc), I was very disappointed with both the run-of-the-mill appearance and the location of the Damascus Carlton: set slightly back off a busy main road, in a commercial/residential area some distance from the interesting parts of the city. ...Just returned from staying at Carlton Housewith my wife for our wedding anniversary. This place is fantastic, it really is. Have stayed in York on other occasions and always tend to pay over the odds hoping money brings service. The Carlton although not cheap is fantastic value for money and provides the quality of service expected from the top end hotels. Although in the guest house category I would class this place as a hotel with the added value of that special guest house service. Arrival was greeted by friendly smile, explanation of facilities, room, parking and location. ...When choosing a hotel in Amsterdam the traveller is faced with a multitude of choices and you're never sure exactly which hotel is good or bad. I hope this opinion helps to clear the confusion. We booked the Hotel Jolly Carlton from the internet where we got an excellent deal. The Hotel Jolly Carlton is owned by an Italian chain of hotels which have properties throughout Europe. It is situated right next to the Singel Flower Market and some of the rooms are lucky enough to overlook the Muntplein which chimes each hour on the hour 24 hours a day. Best HOTEL in Cannes - Carlton Intercontinental

Advantages: This is one amazing hotel with everything you want in one of the greatest cities of France
Disadvantages: pretty much non-affordable for normal folks

...In september 2000 I was invited to the presentation of OPEL´s new car called Corsa. I was surprised that they did this presentation not in germany, but in Cannes, France. Furthermore I was really happy to see which hotel OPEL booked for the 3 day stay of their exclusive customers: The world famous Carlton Intercontinental Hotel at Cannes... Famous, some of you might ask and I say yes, famous it is. Most of you know that european film festival every year at Cannes. That hotel there is that historic building in which all the major actors, directors and plenty of wannabe´s are staying. The building itself is under a historic building law in france and so to uphold business in there the owners have to spent lots of money quite frequently to rebuild the beautiful historic outside of the hotel. Disadvantages: Current construction noise, average breakfast

...for a hotel of this class. If ever we stayed in Lausanne again, and could afford the high rates it would be great to stay on the lake front in Ouchy. Being more realistic, however, we wouldn't hesitate to return to the Nash Carlton, and would recommend it highly to others....
