Extraordinary Adventure in the Citadel of Dreams
Review of Citadel of Dreams - Dave Stone by
Davius
Advantages: Inriguing story with surprising twists and turns
Disadvantages: Keeps you in the dark about what is happening a bit too much
...'Citadel of Dreams' is the second book in a series of Dr. Who Novellas published by Telos. A novella is basically shorter than a novel, but not as short as a short story, so they average around 20,000 to 40,000 words each (this particular novella is 112 pages). The novellas are written by different authors (some established, and some not established, Dr. Who writers) and Dave Stone's 'Citadel of Dreams' is quite a bizarre addition to the range!
This second novella is set in the futuristic city of Hokesh and is mainly centred around a boy called Joey Quine, who spends most of his life scavenging on the streets. However, he soon finds that he can see into the minds of other people and even influence them, and he is also subjected to strange visions and dreams. In the confusion that is surrounding his life, Joey finds the only person who...

An Englishman's home is his castle
Review of The Citadel (Shrewsbury) by
MAFARRIMOND
Advantages: Listed buiding. Magnificent views and walks.
Disadvantages: Expensive
...Earlier this year, my eldest daughter and her husband asked us if they could move back in with us for three to four months in-between houses. We agreed and he date for the move was set. Dave and I decided we would go away for a few days prior to the due date aware of just how much work would be involved in the move.
We didn’t want to go too far and our main aim for the few days was that of relaxation. The Lighthouse in Llandudno had been recommended to us and we were signposted to the website, http://www.distinctlydifferent.co.uk/ddgift.htm. Unfortunately, The Lighthouse was fully booked for the time we wanted but listed on the site was The Citadel in Shrewsbury.
Described as “a dower house in the form of a miniature castle”, The Citadel was located just outside Hawkstone Park (famous for its follies) and just half an hour’s drive...

STEPPING INTO A MYTH
Review of Mycenae by
magdadh
Advantages: interesting site of major importance, good views
Disadvantages: can be very crowded and very hot
...We travel to Mycenae on a morning bus from rainy Nafpilo. It's a straight road north, mostly through an agricultural plain of Argolis. If the whole Peloponnesus can be taken to resemble a hand, Argolis would be its thumb: a stretch of land with perhaps the biggest density of major archaeological sites in the whole of Greece. Argos itself, despite being one of the longest inhabited sites in Greece, doesn't offer much in the way of attractions. Or perhaps it does, what with a medieval castle, well preserved theatre and other ancient remains, but in comparison to other sites in the vicinity they are nothing special.
And before the bus even reaches Argos, we see a worthy preface to Mycenae, in some ways even more striking because of its everyday, unimpressive setting, next to a busy road rise the cyclopean walls of the citadel of Tiryns...

No-one expects the Inquisition!
Review of Heresy Book One - Anselm Audley by
wolfatgoogle
Advantages: Very exciting, great plot and very real characters
Disadvantages: Only one trilogy by this author so far
...and the rest of them called to surrender. Cathan and Sarbaddon both recognize the leader of the attackers, whom they met at the Temple. Cathan's eyes are drawn to a girl about his age, whose name is Ravenna.
Sarbaddon, as an acolyte, is requested to swear never to speak of this, but Cathan is a problem to their captors as he is not under the Domain's control. They decide he will go the Citadel, although he is allowed to go briefly to Taneth to tell his father about the iron. He is given a bracelet infused with magic that will prevent him talking to anyone else of what has happened, and is also given a strange message to give to his father.
When Cathan finally reaches Taneth, his father is very pleased with the news, and immediately starts to plan whom he can trade with. Together they decide on House Barca as the most trustworthy, and arriving...

Half Life 2 Episode 1 by Valve Software
Review of Half Life 2: Episode 1 (PC) by
Angus_The_Guest
Advantages: Character interaction, story, graffix including HDR lighting, exciting strategic range of combat situations, physics, environments
Disadvantages: Quite short leaving people feeling there should be more game for the price
...a sidekick also adds to the game play in some places.
NEW CONTENT
When it comes to new content such as enemies and weapons the game doesn't add any new weapons and only one new enemy, however new ways of using things have been developed. For instance roller mines can be picked up and modified to work for the player. It is a shame however that more new content was not added to the game.
COMBAT AND PUZZLES
The combat and puzzles in the game are excellent and the player faces a variety of different combat situations which challenge the player in different ways. These ensure that the game play is never monotonous as there is always something new around the corner. However people who did not like the gravity gun section in the citadel at the end of Half Life 2 will be disappointed to find that in the first section of Half Life 2 Episode 1...
