An Englishman's home is his castle
Review of The Citadel (Shrewsbury) by MAFARRIMOND

Advantages: Listed buiding. Magnificent views and walks.
Disadvantages: Expensive

...Earlier this year, my eldest daughter and her husband asked us if they could move back in with us for three to four months in-between houses. We agreed and he date for the move was set. Dave and I decided we would go away for a few days prior to the due date aware of just how much work would be involved in the move. We didn’t want to go too far and our main aim for the few days was that of relaxation. The Lighthouse in Llandudno had been recommended to us and we were signposted to the website, http://www.distinctlydifferent.co.uk/ddgift.htm. Unfortunately, The Lighthouse was fully booked for the time we wanted but listed on the site was The Citadel in Shrewsbury. Described as “a dower house in the form of a miniature castle”, The Citadel was located just outside Hawkstone Park (famous for its follies) and just half an hour’s drive... Read review

Extraordinary Adventure in the Citadel of Dreams
Review of Citadel of Dreams - Dave Stone by Davius

Advantages: Inriguing story with surprising twists and turns
Disadvantages: Keeps you in the dark about what is happening a bit too much

...'Citadel of Dreams' is the second book in a series of Dr. Who Novellas published by Telos. A novella is basically shorter than a novel, but not as short as a short story, so they average around 20,000 to 40,000 words each (this particular novella is 112 pages). The novellas are written by different authors (some established, and some not established, Dr. Who writers) and Dave Stone's 'Citadel of Dreams' is quite a bizarre addition to the range! This second novella is set in the futuristic city of Hokesh and is mainly centred around a boy called Joey Quine, who spends most of his life scavenging on the streets. However, he soon finds that he can see into the minds of other people and even influence them, and he is also subjected to strange visions and dreams. In the confusion that is surrounding his life, Joey finds the only person who... Read review

Did, made, thought it was quite good.
Review of Goodbye Enemy Airship The Landlord Is Dead - Do Make Say Think by radarmaker

Advantages: If you like post-rock, you'll love this...
Disadvantages: ...however, if not........

...They’re from Canada. They make post-rock. They’re on Constellation Records. They’re not Godspeed You Black Emperor! So, some more icy build-up, noisy drones, eh? Well, don’t take over those crystal citadels just yet, kids, ‘Do May Say Think’ may just have a bit more up their sleeves. For a start, their songs aren’t all thirty minutes long. Their melancholy appears to be politicised, but in what way one is unable to tell. Whether Toronto-based rock counts as music for a cold climate, it’s difficult to tell, but Do May Say Think do in fact add something to their (pretty obscurist) genre.... Read review

Review of General: Malta by simonrogertaylor

Advantages: Friendly people, drive on the left
Disadvantages: Pot holes, Pot Holes, Um....Pot Holes

...Malta will not apeal to everyone, there are only two sandy beaches on the island, these are situated at the top of the island. Where ever you stay on the island the trip to the sandy beaches will take no more that half an hour. There are some very good places to visit on malta, Midina the silent city is one, 14 families live in this hill top citadel, and no cars are alowed, I have spent several hours walking down the back streets of this Silent city. Mosta Dome is a place you must go the third largest un supported dome roof in the world. The Blue grotto, is very beautifull but make sure you go before 11 am in the morning, because the sun will be too high up to light up the coral in this cave and give the glorious effect.... Ancient Culture in a modern city - updated
Review of Ankara (Turkey) by anjuschka

Advantages: Cosmopolitan and full of culture
Disadvantages: It is a modern city

...Unlike Istanbul with its long history, Ankara is a modern city, founded by Atatürk in the location of the provincial town of Angora, and declared Turkeys Capital in 1923. It is a carefully planned Metropolis with wide boulevards flanked by Embassies and parks, huge modern shopping centres and a number of Universities on its outskirts. In comparison to Istanbul, it will never have the same oriental feel about it. Only the old part, on and around the old citadel has the same charm of winding streets and beautiful wooden Ottoman houses. It boasts some great restaurants in some of these old houses - make sure to get a seat on a terrace or upper floor to make most of the spectacular views. There are a number of twelfth and thirteenth century mosques worth looking at in the area. On the road leading down from the citadel, antiques and carpet... Read review

used to be a city of dream
Review of General: Iran by traveller55

Advantages: a lot but not now
Disadvantages: the city has been destroyed by earthquake

...ha been built a mosque called “Jame Mosque” and nearby this mosque there the tomb of a very famous local astronomer, Mirza Naiim. From 1800 to 1932 Bam was a military installation and therefore it was forbidden to civilians. This town is an agglomerate of building made with mud, clay, straw and palm tree trunks. When you visit Bam you don’t need to fly with the fantasy to imagine how the city was centuries ago because Bam is as it was two thousand years ago. Colours and scents, as well as building are unchanged. Houses, schools, the citadel, the mosque, the walls. With that special colour that recall the sand and that only the sun at sunset can give the right shade. That sand that floats in the air and that penetrate your body. At the top of the citadel tower your gaze range over the Dash-è-Lut desert, toward the mountains... Read review

Possibly the best novel I ever read
Review of The Book of the New Sun - Gene Wolfe by andrewsi

Advantages: Incredibly well written. Engrossing story, engaging characters.
Disadvantages: Hard to stop reading. Definitely too complex for just one read through.

...It's always difficult to describe anything by Gene Wolfe. I'm also very suprised that this is the first review of his work on Ciao. He is quite possibly the best author I've ever read, and The Book of the New Sun is possibly his finest work to date. It covers four novels - Shadow of the Torturer, Claw of the Conciliator, Sword of the Lictor, and Citadel of the Autarch. Set in the very, very distant future, they tell the stort of a journeyman in the Guild of Seekers after Truth and Penitence, also known as the Torturers. The books follow him as he goes from an initiate in the Guild to, well, that would be telling... But it's not just that. There is so much to these novels that it's hard to begin... I've reread them all many, many times, and each time, I find something new in there, something that I've not come across before... Read review

Aleppo
Review of Aleppo (Syria) by engna

Advantages: Beautiful and ancient city
Disadvantages: Not well advertised

...Aleppo is the second largest city in Syria and is located in northern Syria about 30 miles south of Turkey, 60 miles to the east of the Mediterranean and 60 miles to the west of the Euphrates River. Aleppo is a very beautiful and ancient city with a history of more than 4000 years. You can't miss its tourist attractions if you visit Syria! You'll defiantly need to spend few days to see the main tourist sites in Aleppo. Hotels are available and cheap compared with many other countries, prices range from £3.00 to about £100.00 a night depending on the quality of the hotel and services. Here is a brief information about the main attraction site in Aleppo: * The Citadel of Aleppo: is the most famous site in Aleppo. It has been built on a high hill for the purpose of city defence. Although all the attacks and earthquakes over... Read review

STEPPING INTO A MYTH
Review of Mycenae by magdadh

Advantages: interesting site of major importance, good views
Disadvantages: can be very crowded and very hot

...We travel to Mycenae on a morning bus from rainy Nafpilo. It's a straight road north, mostly through an agricultural plain of Argolis. If the whole Peloponnesus can be taken to resemble a hand, Argolis would be its thumb: a stretch of land with perhaps the biggest density of major archaeological sites in the whole of Greece. Argos itself, despite being one of the longest inhabited sites in Greece, doesn't offer much in the way of attractions. Or perhaps it does, what with a medieval castle, well preserved theatre and other ancient remains, but in comparison to other sites in the vicinity they are nothing special. And before the bus even reaches Argos, we see a worthy preface to Mycenae, in some ways even more striking because of its everyday, unimpressive setting, next to a busy road rise the cyclopean walls of the citadel of Tiryns... Battle for middle earth
Review of The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth (PC) by lucus00

Advantages: Great fun and long lasting
Disadvantages: Not enough developed stratigy

...Lord of the rings the battle for middle earth is the latest Lord of the rings RTS for the pc. I bought this game when it was released as I am a big LOTR fan and this game met my expectations. Battle for middle earth has a evil and a good campaign when you have to dominate the lands of middle earth, or free it from Sauron I found these missions very enjoyable as you are able to play missions such as Moria, Amon-hen and Minas tirith which you will never get bored of. There are 4 factions to play Rohan, Gondor (which have wall surrounding base), Isengard and Mordor ( no walls surrounding base) which are all enjoyable and easy factions to play. Each faction start the game with a cicle with 7-8 build plots with a citadel in the centre on these build plots you are able to build farms, blacksmiths, wells, barracks etc. and evil factions...
