Judgement Time at the Courtyard Slough / Windsor

Advantages: Convenient location, no fuss, Marriott standards.
Disadvantages: It's clearly Marriott's poor relation - but not a major "con"!

...I?ve done it yet again! I?ve stayed in Slough. To remind you, Sir john Betjeman wrote: Come Bombs, and fall on Slough, It isn?t fit for humans now! There isn?t grass to graze a cow. Come, friendly bombs Swarm over, death! The bombs have not come, yet. Slough is still standing. And Priceline send me back there time and time again. I accept an element of blame; perhaps I?m growing fond of the place. Perhaps the fact that the ?Legoland? theme park is nearby and that Josh absolutely loves it is a bonus. Whatever! We found ourselves in Slough once again; this time, at the Courtyard by Marriott. It?s officially rated as a 3 star hotel, and I was not exactly enamoured about the idea of staying there (the Slough issue aside) ? so I?ll try to say exactly why I?m wary of three-star hotels. Cinema in my courtyard

Advantages: HDTV ready and compatible,DVD and 5,1 Audio system functions, Image quality

Swimming and Dining in one easy package

Advantages: Good value, option to swim and dine

...Yes, I know it is an unusual package, however one of our local restaurants offers customers the option to swim in their lovely leisure pool and use the jacuzzi for nothing just so long as they spend at least £10 each on a meal in the adjoining restaurant. I am a member of a local dining club and this is always a popular option on the programme. The Leisure Club adjoins the high class Seckford Hall Hotel just outside of Woodbridge in Suffolk and the restaurant at the Leisure Centre is called the Courtyard Restaurant. It is popular with golfers using the hotel's golf course as well as with guests using the leisure facilities. Review of Courtyard Chicago Downtown / Magnificent Mile, Chicago

As you like it - currently running at the GLOBE

Advantages: If you choose a seat in the upper circle you won't get wet if it rains.
Disadvantages: If you choose to be in the centre of the Globe you might get wet because it has an open ceiling.

..."As you like it" is one of Shakespears brilliant love stories. The actors are interacting with the audience and it is a guarantor for a lot of amusement. The usual cruelty of Shakespeares plays is missing in this piece which makes it highly recommendable to see for young adults as well. And there is a HAPPY END. The Globe provides a very cosy atmosphere itsself. It consists of three seated circles which surround a small courtyard. I had a ticket for the highest circle and had an amazing view over the whole stage and it only costs £33. The play is roughly 2.5hrs long. There is a fifteen minute break after the first 1.5hrs where you can refresh yourself and get drinks from the Shakespeare caffe. I highly reccomend this play and the Globe theatre....

Hotel Gran Ducat

Advantages: excellent central location
Disadvantages: views from rooms

...A fine basic city centre hotel, clean and functional. Helpful reception, restaurant and cleaning staff. Check in was not possible when we arrived at the hotel at noon, nor were we able to get a late check out when leaving. Excellently located across from one of the many side entrances to El Corte Ingles, five minutes trundle from the Airport Bus Stop in Placa Catalunya. Our room had a single bed added to make it a tripple, which was rather cramped, but with so much to see we did not spend much time there. The view from our room was into a courtyard and the back of buildings, however some rooms seemed to look onto other rooms across an air tunnel. Free internet access. A great hotel to flop back to after a long day sightseeing!...

Stranded in London!

Advantages: Excellent central location; good bars and restaurants
Disadvantages: Rooms a bit old fashioned; a little pricey

..." - the inner courtyard of the hotel with the humming air conditioners at the bottom. I can live (or sleep) with that, but there was also an awful rattling, like pipes, coming from somewhere in the ceiling. We went back downstairs to complain, and were told there were no other rooms. After standing our ground they eventually checked us in to an alternative room on the 4th floor. A little bigger, but still not brilliant - probably "average", from past business stays down in London hotels. The reception staff weren't particularly friendly, as other reviews have mentioned. Despite being "club" rooms, all that appeared to be different was the decor. Instead of old-fashioned wall-to-wall flowerey decor and furnishings, it was plain duck-egg walls, and a "modern" bed (faux-leather headboard and plain brown and green blankets). Not worth the extra money...

...fridge, kettle, crockery cutlery, glasses, mugs, hairdryer, iron and the cleanest glass on a hotel shower I've seen for a long time. A perfect self contained, self catering room for a family on a tight budget. We arrived late at night and had been given a code to enter the hotel as the desk isn't manned at night, this proved no problem and we walked through the hotel to an exit door at the back, when we went out it was into a tiny courtyard with two external rooms, our room was here and this was perfect for me as I'm a smoker and it meant I didn't have to go all the way through the hotel and to the front door, I just left my room and sat at the wee table in the courtyard had a glass of wine and went to bed. My sister booked the room via a telephone call and the owner didn?t take a deposit from her, he just asked her to pop in...

A SHAKESPEAREAN TRAGEDY

...When visiting Verona in June, I have to admit that top of my 'must-see' list was notable by the absence of anything vaguely Shakespearean...as was the Casa de Giuletta (Juliet's House), even though it fitted the bill. Besides, I much prefer the Dire Straits version. However, we were there and so was it, so why not? We stumbled across the entrance to the courtyard quite accidentally whilst meandering aimlessly through some of the shopping streets of Verona. Dusting ourselves down and checking for grazed knees, we entered the courtyard to see the famous balcony where Juliet did all her posing...allegedly. And what a courtyard. The dark and dank tunnel leading in was more in keeping with wino alley then a tourist destination. Fairfield Inn, Lake Buena Vista - Bring your ear plugs!

Advantages: Clean, tidy hotel with excellent service from staff
Disadvantages: Noisy hotel near a busy motorway, not enough seats at breakfast

...that if you did not manage to go down for breakfast particularly early then you could not get a seat. Several people ate in their rooms or reception and we even received a pass for one complimentary breakfast at the adjacent 'Courtyard Hotel'. It is important to note that this review is based on 'The Fairfield Inn' only and not the adjacent 'Courtyard Hotel' or 'Fairfield Suites'....
