...The Day After Tomorrow ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Is this a big budget movie with lots of action and scenery? Yes Does it have a fantastic plot? Not really Lots of people I know have complained to me that this film doesn't really have a great plot, but correct if I am wrong in that this is the sort of film that DOESN'T have a great plot; it's not Shakespeare or Tolstoy but rather it's big Hollywood with stunning, ground breaking visual effects that must be seen at the cinema to be believed, a good looking cast with a love story between two of the young leads. ...The Day After Tomorrow was, I have to say, was a bit of a disappointment. It was not a bad film but it just was not worth all the build up and excitement. The reason I did not enjoy it that much was that it made absolutely no lasting impression on you. I can remember the story and the characters but at no point was I overwhelmed or amazed by it. As everybody will have seen from the trailers, the plot is very simple. Polar ice caps are melting and causing the ocean to cool down and this is causing bizarre weather conditions, which could cause a second ice age. Then the storyline talks about how different people survive (or don’t). One thing that I did think was well done was the special effects. For example, there were wolves, which before hand I found out were computer generated so I was expecting big lumps with legs and a head... Read review

...2nd up in the Friday night Film Fest was The Day After Tomorrow. I love disaster movies and imagined this on the same footing as Independence Day and Armageddon. I was a bit disappointed with this though as the focus was more on how many special effects they could fit in rather than the storyline. however for what it was, it was pretty enjoyable and left us debating how we would survive if a similar catastrophe was to occur anytime soon. We came to the conclusion that we would probably be completely screwed as we allegedly have double glazing but the temperature in my house frequently falls below the outside temp and we have a chimney that is big enough to fit 3 Santas down. Advantages: Very futuristic, makes a very moralistic point whci should brin the messgae home

...I have read many other people's reviews and many of the comments include 'poor acting', 'not very realistic' and 'a shabby plot'. But I think if you look at the directors aim of this particular movie, i don't think that the quality of the acting was meant to be ( not to be insulting) in line with the acting or 'realism' of many hollywood movies and their stars. Lord of the Rings was a fantastic film and has been recognised as so because of the special effects and the vast crew that have put together the film. It is great in that the plot was already provided by an author which had to be transferred on to film. that particular movie was highly fantastical, about good combating evil. Advantages: Great Movie, Fantastic Scenes
Disadvantages: Some of it made me jump!

...I'm not a huge fan of disaster movies (ie Independance Day, Armageddon..) but this one was fantastic. Wasn't planning on seeing it, but it was the only movie starting around the time myself and my boyfriend turned up at the cinema so thought what the heck just go see it. And I'm so glad I did. It starts of with Jack Hall giving an important speech about the possible chance of the world going through a second ice age because of the melting of the ice caps causing a disturbance to the flow of heat above the equator. (Which face it, could very well damn happen!!!!) He is campaigning to world leaders to stop thinking about their bank balances and doing something to save the world, as this ice age could happen within 100 years. In true movie style, 100 years is simply too far away and infact, the climate starts to make a startling... Read review

...The day after tomorrow is a mammoth of a movie. The story revolves around a true modern day issue, that being global warming. A scientist, Jack Hall (Dennis Quaid), a specialist in climate believes that the northern hemisphere is going into another ice age, well he describes the actions of the previous one however, he puts his ideas to that of what the Atlantic ocean is showing, the Atlantic becomes colder and rougher seas settle in disrupting the buoys. Jacks Hall's son, Sam (Jake Gyllenhaal) joins in a team at his college and they are to go to New York to compete against other college's. He has a bad relationship in that his dad never really sees him. ...Director Roland Emmerich proved his talent for creating destruction once again after already creating the huge blockbuster hit 'Independence Day'. The two films can be closely compared due to the patriotic acting and the overall devastating destruction of parts of the world. The basic plot is climatologist Jack Hall (Quaid) has uncovered some startling news. Global Warming could cause another Ice Age if no action is taken. His predictions however aren’t even close to the time this may occur. He is quick to realise his mistake, however not quick enough. ...of their actions to be be too slow, pompous and shrouded in red tape. The actors are admirably led by the ever reliable Dennis Quaid as climate expert Jack Hall, a man who has long predicted the results of our actions on the planet and the man best equipped to predict the devastation that will follow. Quaid is a healthy leading man in the Harrison Ford mould and brings plenty of emotion in to Hall as he seeks first to be heard and then to keep a promise (for once) to his son to travel through the elements and reach him whatever the consequences. His son Sam is played with the usual quirky style by Jake Gyllenhaal, who retains a measure of humour even as the situation looks it's most bleak and is a tower of strength to those few around him desperate to beleive that someone will eventually come to save them.
