Great acting, direction and mood turn a cliche plot into an excellent film

Not sure I know of any, it depends upon personal taste

...himself afterwards. In many ways it?s his mid-period films though that get me. Does this mean I?m just a little bit uncouth? I mean, when you watch The Brood, The Dead Zone and Videodrome they?re not quite pure horror in the same way Scanners and Rabid are and they certainly are not as sophisticated as those films where his initial obsession with body horror shifts more towards mental not physical...

Well written, good characters

Not scary

...largely because it simply wasn't scary. It had King's realism, the depth of his characters, their quirkiness and was definitely his writing, but it wasn't scary. The most scary point in the whole book was when the main character had his run of luck at the fair, that was it. 'The Dead Zone' refers to things the man can't remember after the accident, simple things, like being unable to visualise a park...
