Meet the stone family

Advantages: Easy to watch and an array of well known actors
Disadvantages: It isn't the most interesting film you'll ever watch

...I bought the family stone for one reason only and that was because the cast was a mix of well known faces! I know I should look for more than this but, being a Sex and the City fan I am always keen to watch anything with Sarah Jessica Parker in! Along with a variety of others who I have seen in other films and enjoyed then it was surely to be a winner wasn't it? Released in 2005 the film was written and directed by Thomas Bezucha. The story: The stone family are very close knit and celebrate Christmas together every year. When the favourite son, Everett, decides to bring his girlfriend Meredith with him to meet his family it doesn't quite go to plan! He has plans to ask his mother for his grandmother's ring to propose to Meredith but, his family pretty much take an instant dislike to her and find Meredith to be too uptight...

...The Family Stone is a drama/comedy written and directed by Thomas Bezucha, whose other sole credit is writing a film called The Big Eden. Looking at that fact I am reminded of a seeming propensity for first time author/directors to focus on family stories, oh weird I just IMDB'd him and he used to work for Ralph Lauren, one of my brief temping stints in NY, some highly amusing tales there, photographers pointing out all the models who'd recently had work done, everyone who worked there was bloody Ivy League right down to the lowest levels of admin. Weird, weird place, Valley of the Dolls atmosphere to the fore... Alright I'm stalling. I do and I do not want to write a review of this film. ...and everyone is heading home to their families for the holiday period. Everett Stone is taking his girlfriend Meredith Morton to his home for Christmas to meet the family. The Stone family are a tight nit, quirky and protective family. They appear to need a bit of time to warm to Meredith before they can accept her into their clan. A typical big family Christmas! Good film!

Advantages: Lovely film that courts the issue of a loved one dying of cancer
Disadvantages: Made me cry buckets!!

...Well, I watched this DVD this afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a wonderful mixture of light hearted humour and a little sadness. The cast is quite good starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Diane Keaton and Dermot Mulroney and others that looked vaguely familiar but wouldn't have known their names. The basic plot is this: A couple; Meredith and Everett ( Sarah JP and Dermot) go home for Christmas to meet the guys family, which is quite large and entertaining. Meredith comes across as rather stuck up and quite frosty and basically the whole family apart from Everetts brother all dislike her instantly. The fact that they all dislike her doesn't escape her either, so she calls in her sister for back up. Meanwhile Everett falls very quickly in love with Meredith's sister and Meredith has a drunken fling with Everett's brother...

Cringe - Ha Ha - Cringe - Sniff Sniff.

Advantages: Good Characters and Story.
Disadvantages: One Bad Storyline.

...Ever since watching the very first episode of the fantastic sex and the city I have loved Sarah Jessica Parker as an actress and I have only just noticed she has started to appear in some recent films. The one I was most intrigued by was this film I am reviewing the family stone because it sure does boast an impressive cast including another of my favourites Diane Keaton.
