...The Fifth Element, directed by Luc Besson has to be one of the few movies that I can watch time and again. It is such a multi-layered movie, which works well on many levels. It is part sci-fi, part thriller, part action, part comedy but ultimately it is a love story. It is such an unusual movie, it is almost impossible to compare to any other. The story is set in the not too distant future in an incredibly crowded New York. The visuals of the city are superb, traffic drives in lanes around the skyscrapers as all the inhabitants have taken to living and working high above the city streets which are uninhabitable due to permanent, thick smog. Korben Dallas (Willis) is driving his taxi when suddenly a semi-naked woman (Milla Jovovich) who has leapt from a ledge to evade police, comes crashing into his taxi from above... Read review

Advantages: Watch it... and again... and again... : it's just GREAT!
Disadvantages: If you don't like Sci-Fi, nor Luc Besson... well it's a very bad start to enjoy this movie!

...Why speaking today about this Luc Besson's movie released in 1997, rather than speaking about the latest film released, out now at the cinema or either the film on the TV tonight? ... well... why not? So, those of you who can recognize the following names: Korben Dallas, Leeloo and Rubbbbbbbbbby Rhooooooooooooode can read another opinion; they already know all about what I am going to say and there is a great chance that they enjoyed this movie (ok... i know some people hated it, but eh! different tastes make the world go round!). ...The Fifth Element the pc game is the fair game based on the Blockbuster hit with Bruce Willis and Milla Jovovich. The game itself falls way short of my expectations, but fans of the movie who are looking for something extra, a supplement to the movie, will enjoy it. As the movie, the game follows the story, Korben Dallas the reluctant hero, joins forces with this strange young female Leelo (Jovovich) to find the five elements to stop an alien force destryoying everything in it's path. There's more to it than that but thats the movie for you in short. Graphics ** The graphics are fair at best, as far as the characters of Dallas and Leelo, they look as best as they can, the rest of the characters in the game, look to be a sloppy rendition of aliens and robots. ...This film is about Korben Dallas(Bruce Willis) and the fifth element known as Milla Jovavich, and how they protect the earth from an evil alien. The first 15 minutes or so take place in Egypt 1914, where an explorer has discovered some strange markings in a temple as Luke Perry looks on. A priest tries to stop the explorer from stumbling upon a cosmic secret, but too late. Down comes an alien spacecraft, out of which steps a strange bronze / chrome being that unlocks the entrance to a strange room. The brings out four small stone obelisks just as Luke shoots it. No Luke, it's a friendly alien! Too late, the alien dies, after squeaking out a warning about the evil invading the earth 300 years from now. Flash forward, oh, 300 years or so. ...I loved this movie. Many people seem to compare it to Star Wars so I am and I think The Fifth Element is definitely BETTER than any of them. Maybe it's because I never grew up with Star Wars. The first time I saw SW, I was bored to hell, overly long and was only good at the time. Anyway, here is how I rate THE FIFTH ELEMENT: Cinematography: Wonderful. Music: Fantastic, you gotta love CHAPTER 27 on the DVD, (BUY Eric Serra's Soundtrack, so you can listen to the movie whenever you can't watch it) Art Direction: Brilliant, I've never so much color and detail put into everything. Costumes: Superb, LOVE that orange. Acting: Well, I love Milla, the stewardesses and you gotta love Chris Tucker. ...OK, anyone who doesn't read Discworld books will probably think that the title of this opinion makes no sense and to those people I recommend they immediately start reading Discworld books :) Set in the year 2257, a planet-sized 'force of evil' is heading towards Earth and if it reaches it no living organism will survive. Any force used against this evil will only make it stronger and the only possible way to stop it is unification of four stones (the four elements of earth, fire, water and wind) with a mysterious fifth element (actually a living being). Mixing Action, Comedy & Science-Fiction, this really is an excellent film to watch. ...As I was flicking through the television channels before I was about to turn my light out and go to sleep last night, I saw the unmistakable beginning of The Fifth Element on ITV2. "How many times has this film been on the television in the last year?" I asked myself and "how many times have I watched it when it has been on?" Well the answer to both is - I've lost count! ...Well firstly I have to say I am a bit of a Sci-Fi fan but I will try to keep this as unbiased as possible. What can I say a great cast for a great movie. About the Film Itself. If I had to say what format you would see this in I would have to say DVD even if you don't have a player go and buy one for this film. It’s well worth it. Basically what is about is a huge ball of evil heading straight for Earth to destroy everything. There is another bad point about this unfriendly blob, the fact that when you try and destroy it; it gets bigger, stronger and more intelligent. The only thing that can stop this huge "creature" is the Fifth Element who is actually a being and "for lack of a better word" a perfect one. ...(nothing unusual there then). And there is Ian Holm as Father Cornelius, who plays it straight most of the time and so is less memorable, but has an eccentric air about him which is rather endearing. The genre is science fiction, which I must admit is not in my comfort zone. I much prefer my films to be a bit closer to reality. The Fifth Element is made slightly more palatable for me because of the humour. It really doesn't take itself too seriously at all; in fact it is almost comic-like and I believe that many ideas were taken from French comics. This makes the film very wacky and very colourful - visually a delight. It does also make the film very busy - there is so much going on that at times it is easy to forget that the plot is basically a story of good versus evil.
