...Frequency does not do much to describe the type of movie this is and may put people off seeing the movie. It is basically a thriller, full of twists, with a strong streak of science fiction running all the way through it. Recently released on Region 1 DVD from New Line Cinema it arrived on my doorstep this week. The basic plot is that Frank Sullivan (Dennis Quaid) is a fireman and a very good one, he is the best at his job and no risk is too much for him to take. He puts his life on the line everyday in an attempt to save others, but away from work Frank is a loving and caring father to John. Advantages: Cool game, pick-up-and-playability, nice graphics, very simple
Disadvantages: Music is a bit dated now, gets VERY difficult

...I got Frequency a while ago of a friend and couldn't put it down for a week or two. Its similar to Dance Dance Revolution, although the more shy among us might find it somewhat intimidating to use a DDR Pad, even in their own homes. I am a fan of both and Frequency and DDR, but this game provides a nice change as there is nothing like it currently available, or a taste of the music/puzzle world to those new to the genre. You play through the song in a tubes with x number of sides. X being the number of layers of the track. For example, one will be drums, another bass, another vocals and so on. Using the swuare, triangle and R1 keys, you tap out the combination as it is displayed on screen by "gems" that sit on the side of the tube(left=square, middle=triangle, right=R1). ...Frequency really succeeds in getting the viewer to get involved into its fantastic, time-travel storyline (not unlike Back to the future). The fast moving plot keeps you absorbed and thanks to very solid, believable, often moving characterisations and the gripping way the plot is spun the movie is a great entertainment. Johnny (played by Jim Caviezel) is a young aggressive New York cop whose firefighter father dad (played by Dennis Quaid) died in a fire 30 years earlier. Using his dad’s old ham radio he is miraculously able to talk to the old man….which at first has you wondering how the film is going to work – but it does. ...And so my dvd collection gets rifled through so i can review it for you (hah that rhymes). This time i am looking at Frequency, a film directed by gregory hoblit (primal fear, harts war) and starring Jim Cavaziel(The thin red line, count of monte cristo) as John sullivan. Also starring Dennis Quaid (innerspace, traffic) as Frank sullivan. John is a new york city homicide officer who's life is going badly, his girlfriend has left him and he is still traumatized by his fathers death thirty years earlier. His father Frank was a fireman who died in a big fire, Franks hobby was ham radio (no not a radio station broadcasted by pigs) and one day John finds his fathers old radio. ...Psychedelic Frequencies is probably one of my most favourite CDs of all times. It is a compilation of some of the best Psychedelic music that was ever created. It starts off with the seminal work, "White Rabbit" by Jefferson Airplane. The soaring, sexually charged voice of Grace Slick on this song (which owes a great deal for its musical structure to Ravel's Bolero) is a definitive musical moment of the 1960s counter culture. (Oops, I think I went a bit OTT then!) The second track, King Midas in Reverse, by The Hollies, has some exceptionally fine acoustic guitarwork. It tells the story of someone who is "King Midas with a curse, he's King Midas in reverse" The use of strings and orchestral instruments and tambourines adds greatly to this song. ...I wish more films were made nowadays that do not fit so snugly into one particular genre. "Frequency" is one such film. Intimate and touching, but also gripping and suspenseful. The acting was superb, especially by Quaid and Caviezel as father and son. The imagery was rich and dramatic and the plot, once you got by the basic premise, quite sound. The logic faltered a tiny bit towards the end, but one could overlook that amongst the climactic fight scene(s). A thoroughly enjoyable film and well woth a look if stuck for something to watch...
