George's Marvellous Medicine

Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: see review

...?George?s Marvellous Medicine? was the first of Roald Dahl?s stories which we read to our eldest son. It?s the story of a little boy who has a real stinker of a grandmother. She?s rude and scary and bosses him around all the time. One day George?s mum and dad have both gone out, leaving him alone with his Grandma. George has had enough of Grandma bullying him and so decides to cure her of her cantankerous behaviour with a special potion, which he?ll give her instead of her usual medicine. He finds an enormous saucepan in the kitchen and lugs it all around the house, essentially putting in a bit of everything he finds [lipsticks and canary seed included!]. He even makes sure he adds some brown paint so that it is the same colour as Grandma?s real medicine! He then boils it up to make sure that everything?s nicely mixed together before...

Review of George's Marvellous Medicine - Roald Dahl

George and the dragon

Advantages: Great re take on a well known tale
Disadvantages: None

...George and the Dragon An amusing spin off from the story of George and the Dragon as we know it?ie knight with sword killing a dragon. This book, however does indeed have a scary dragon, but the hero, far from being a knight in shining armour, is a mouse called George. ~~Story and Illustrations~~ The scene is set as we enter a landscape of high and rocky mountains and move into a "deep, deep valley in a dark dark cave"" (ooh!! The suspense). In this dark cave, lives a mighty dragon. Yes, he is big and very red. So big, in fact, that he takes up a whole double page spread, and there he stands amongst the rubble, blowing smoke from his nostrils. This mighty dragon can fly higher than the clouds and faster than the birds. He can burn down forests and smash castle walls and with a brush of his wing, he can foil and destroy whole...

Large George Foreman grill and griddle for healthier food

Advantages: quick, healthy food
Disadvantages: weak instruction guide

...I bought this George Foreman 6 person indoor grill about two months ago. I would rather say it is for 4 persons. It is quite big when you have to bring it home or you have to find place for it, but is perfect size when you grill on it. First impressions I saw it on Internet on www.argos.co.uk site, it was on offer for 44.99 pounds. I reserved it and went to pick it up. It was in a huge box. When I arrived home with it I opened and found that the grill is really big. I had to put some household appliances away to have enough place for it. There were the grill, a drip tray and two spatulas in the box. The grill was in one piece there was no need for assemble anything. Features Non stick grill and griddle: the vegetables need a little oil because otherwise they stick to the griddle. So before I spice them, I pour a little oil on them...

George's Medicine Making Morning

Advantages: Fun for small children
Disadvantages: Lacked a certain sparkle that other Dahl books have

...An extract for George?s Marvellous Medicine was in a Roald Dahl Anthology that I was privileged to own when I was younger and was one of the things within it that I really liked reading. Because of this I was quite pleased when I discovered that my brother had the book in his Roald Dahl box set. The book is like most of Roald Dahl?s offerings rather simple and easy to read. The story is rather vibrant and entertaining and the covers of the book can merely contain the colourful characters bursting to get out. The book itself was first published in 1981 and is not too long a read, coming in at 104 pages long in my copy, which is a Puffin edition, published in 2001. Despite saying that this book is 104 pages in length, not all of these pages contain writing and some contain only a minimal amount, as the story is accompanied by some...

George Michael - Twenty Five - A Masterpiece!!

Advantages: Great songs, lots of choice, two albums.
Disadvantages: Doesn't include one of my favourite ever songs.

...I received this as a present Christmas 2008 from my fiance and was really surprised with his choice of gift as although he knew I like George Michael I hadn't mentioned it or dropped any hints for it so was very pleasantly surprised. Anyway, on with the review, I have tried to provide background history, chart information, my personal review of each of the songs and a rating out of 5. This might mean that the review is a lot longer than my normal 'concise' reviews so thanks in advance for reading, hopefully rating and most of all for bearing with me! There are two versions of this album, a two disc and a three disc, my review is based on the two disc edition. George Michael was born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou on June 25, 1963 in East Finchley, North London. He first became famous in the U.K by teaming up with Andrew Ridgeley in...

Review of Twenty Five - George Michael

Diamond review  You, Me & George

Advantages: Build Quality, Price, Discount & Service
Disadvantages: Poor Base Specification - Options Could be Better

...The concept of reviewing things is a sound one, tell people your thoughts (good or bad) about products or services you use or buy - anything from a tea bag to a hotel room. Well, this time I'm returning to Ciao to write a review of our most expensive ever purchase. I'm talking brick and motor. I'm talking a quarter of a million pound's worth of brand-spanking-new George Wimpy real-estate. Be warned, there's so much to tell you this is a really long review - but there's a gold star in it for anyone who makes it to the end! WHERE IT ALL STARTED The post Christmas blues seemed to appear this year about the 1st December (26 days earlier than normal!) and I just wasn't happy. I needed something new to focus on, my feet were getting itchy and the guttering needed replacing. So the logical thing to do is move house! To be...

George Benson - Jazz Master

Advantages: Amazing vocals, guitar playing, strong melodies
Disadvantages: Sadly a tendency towards blandness

...Introduction Jazz music seems to have a terrible reputation. You only have to look at how its been ridiculed over the years by the likes of "Jazz Club" on the "Fast Show", or Benny Hill's take on Cleo Laine back in the 70s to see it isn't really held in particularly high esteem by the mainstream music buyer. And not a lot of jazz ever makes it through to the pop charts - perhaps because of the fact its not radio friendly and may require you to think outside the box a little. One jazz performer who did make through to the mainstream and did very well indeed however was George Benson - albeit through his "jazz lite". About George Benson George Benson was born in Pittsburgh in 1943 and began his career as an instrumentalist, playing guitar in jazz combos and earning a name for himself within that genre. By 1976 he had signed...

Review of Very Best Of George Benson, The (The Greatest Hits Of All) - George Benson

By George! That's cheap!

Advantages: Cheap and decent
Disadvantages: sometimes pricey

...No matter how many clothes shops there are out there, I find that this is one that I will always find myself coming back to. George has been around for some time now, and at first it may have been a bit crappy, however these days you can pick up things that you have seen in other high street shops and many other styles of clothing for less. I always have thought that George has been reasonably priced throughout the years- here is the moment where I say that I am indeed a cheapskate when it comes to shopping. Therefore when someone says to me- ?Fancy going to Asda? I leap at the opportunity, not because most Asdas have a McDonalds these days, not even because of the cheap food- but because of George. Whenever I find myself needing any specific item of clothing I tend to turn to George or Primark. However, if it?s jeans I need I don?t go...

Review of George (Asda's own)

By George!

Advantages: Usually something going on, Great meeting point, Christmas
Disadvantages: None unless you hate red tarmac!

...In most towns and cities you find that right in the middle you have a square of some description. In New York there is Time Square, In Venice there is the Piazza San Marco, in Moscow there is Red Square and in Beijing there is Tiananmen Square. These places are traditionally found in the centre of the city or town and are generally where you will find that the people will gather for various activities such as demonstrations, events, shows of solidarity and New Year celebrations. Here in good old ?Glesga?, we have George Square. The square was originally laid out in 1781 on what was then a marsh. Gradually, it was built around until eventually it became the centre of a bustling city which did very well in the industrial revolution and traded heavily in fabrics, tobacco and shipbuilding. Through the years the Square has evolved...

Happy Birthday George...have a burger on me

Advantages: easy to use, healthier option to eating unhealthy food
Disadvantages: cleaning after use

...When I first heard that George Foreman had put his name to a grill which claimed to be a healthier way to cook meat my instant thought was why an old bloke who plays a ukulele would want to promote a cooking device, then I realised that it wasn?t the slapstick comic from the old television movies but the ex boxer from the 1970?s era, probably most famous for the 1974 ?Rumble in the Jungle? fight against Muhammad Ali Or maybe his surprise comeback in 1987, regaining his title in the mid nineties. The ?Foreman Grill? range, which started its life in 1994, is quite extensive with many different sized units to cater for all tastes, but all the ?grills? can cook many foods, even from frozen, such as Burgers, fish, vegetables and more, including toasted sandwiches. It cooks the food in half the time, using the top and bottom grill...
