finest trilogy ever?
Review of The Godfather Trilogy (Box Set) by  richp80

Advantages: dont mes with the family
Disadvantages: sometimes a bit slow

...The Godfather (1972) was a landmark picture in mafia movies, which broke the "Hollywood mould" in that its sequel, The Godfather Part Two, was arguably better than the film that spawned it. The Godfather also played a major role in propelling its young star, the unknown Al Pacino, to heights from which he has never descended. Pacino joined an experienced and big named cast including Academy Award Winner Marlon Brando, James Caan, and Robert Duvall, an award-winning musical score by Carmine Coppola and veteran Hollywood director Francis Ford Coppola in the making of the films that have now become known as The Godfather Trilogy. The films have been re-released on DVD to mark the 30th Anniversary of Part One's production and come in a 5-disc box set that includes a 187-minute bonus disc with features such as a "Behind The Godfather Family... Be my friend, Godfather.
Review of The Godfather Trilogy (Box Set) by  robbroome

Advantages: The greatest movies ever
Disadvantages: 60 shekels? I'm only poor!

.... The story begins in 1959 with Michael now in charge of almost all of the gambling casinos in Nevada, making sure that any and all political or organised crime enemies are quickly bought off, compromised, or dispensed with. Throughout the film, Michael's story is paralleled with the early experiences of his father Don Vito Corleone, played in flashbacks by Robert DeNiro in reprise of the role played by Marlon Brando in the previous film. This film charts a downturn in Michaels life as, even though he grows even more powerful, he begins to become detached from the people he loves. Even more violent than the original, this film includes the most chilling scenes in the Trilogy, suffice to say, it’s put me off fishing. Also, this is the only sequel to win the Best Picture Oscar alongside it’s original movie. Disc 4 -The Godfather III... Read review

The Godfather Collection 2 Masterpieces
Review of The Godfather Trilogy (Box Set) by  ChrisJarmick

Advantages: Two of three films are bonafide masterpieces. 21 hours of stuff.
Disadvantages: Not as pristine a collection as it could have been.

...The Godfather Collection is the much anticipated dream package film lovers and DVD owners have been waiting for. Rumors of the production of the package began more than a year ago and after much anticipation, and speculation it has arrived. It is here and priced at under 20 bucks per disc making it an offer no film-buff could ever refuse. I wish I could tell you The Collection exceeded the high expectations and delivered absolutely everything , everyone was hoping for, but I can't quite do that. Truth be told, while all the films look very good, they are far from perfect and improvements could have and should have been made. In addition, most of the bonus material contained on the 5th DVD is made up of material that Godfather lovers and film buffs have already seen. There are only a couple of new things . Now don't get me wrong... Read review

The Godfather Part III
Review of The Godfather - Part III DVD by  loucaides

Advantages: Effectively completes the saga
Disadvantages: Simply cannot live up to its predecessors

...A few years ago, my friends were all going crazy over the Godfather films. I wasn't so enthusiastic about them, becuase I am part Italian, and the whole mafia matter is really a blemish against out 'good name'. I watched both the first and second film with mild interest, but over a period of a few days - breaking the plot up and ruining them for me. I told my friends the films were great, but inwardly, I could not see what all the fuss was about. A while later, when I matured and forgot all this macho patriotic stuff, I was getting into reading classic books (I love reading) and i decided to read the Godfather. Next to Lord of the Rings, it was the best book I ever read. It took me just a week to read. A pure calssic in every sense of the word, but alas......that must be left for another review!! After the book, I just had... Read review

Don't ever take sides against the family again!
Review of The Godfather Trilogy (Box Set) by  davideggett

Advantages: One of the best trilogy of films ever made.
Disadvantages: I would seriously struggle to think of any!

...The Godfather trilogy has to go down as one of my personal favorites. There's little point giving a synopsis...as I'm sure the story is so well known - but if you have never seen this...but it at one, you will not regret it. The storyline itself is quite simply...following the fortunes of the Corleone family from the arrival in New york of the Don (Vito)....through the the rise of Michael...to his eventual demise. Although the trilogy is not strictly 'linear'.....the first starting off with the elderly Don....and ending with Michael as the head of the family. The second, covering Michaels story...interspersed with flashbacks detailing how Don Vito rose to power. The final film picks up where Michael himself is the aging Don....and brings the entire trilogy into the modern age.... The quality lies in both the standard... Read review

I'm gonna make you an offer you can't refuse
Review of The Godfather Trilogy (Box Set) by  mdtt1983

Advantages: Great Story, Outstanding Performance, Excellent Features
Disadvantages: You could spend so much time watching these discs

...Inspired by the novel of Mario Puzo ‘The Godfather’, Francis Ford Coppola’s (Director) Godfather trilogy has stunningly marked a legacy amongst modern filmmaking. The tale of the Corleone family is a legendary one, sweeping three breathtaking movies and now masterfully complied on DVD by Paramount. Not only is each film blessed with a commentary, but this five-disc set houses an entire disc filled with month watering extras, including featurettes, screen tests and a whole host of other treats that will make every film lover across the land bless the day they bought a DVD player. THE GODFATHER (1972) Certificate (18) – Disc 1 Duration 2 hours and 47 minutes (Approx) “I’m gonna make him an offer he can’t refuse” (Don Vito Corleone). An Oscar Winning Performance by Marlon Brando as the patriarch of the family standing as the all... Read review

Good God-fathers!
Review of Tokyo Godfathers (Animated) (Subtitled) by  tom1clare

Advantages: Another original anime from Satoshi Kon, stunning animation, three excellent and improbable lead characters, subtle and well-judged humour, light-hearted fun
Disadvantages: Not to everyones tastes, not the director's best work, slight issues with the story, no English-dub as of yet

...It would appear that everything Satoshi Kon touches seems to turn to gold. Though still a relative newcomer in terms of his experience as a director (Tokyo Godfathers being only his third film to date), his previous efforts were such brilliant concepts that even had they been filmed as live-action movies, they would have turned heads. That they were animated films made them utterly striking, and pretty unforgettable. Kon’s films seem as uniquely different from each other as they do from the rest of the anime world – his first film, Perfect Blue, was a disarmingly-violent, eerie psychological-horror story, whilst Millennium Actress, in stark contrast, was a much calmer, more-reflective drama with a dash of romance and heart-break thrown in for good measure. Two very different films though both succeeding admirably in their own way. So... Read review

Godfather
Review of Godfather by  doctorgroove

Advantages: um... the hos I guess although I'd rather like someone for their wrestling ability.
Disadvantages: SUCKS ASS

...D Lo Brown's words sum up the Godfather quite nicely : YOU SUCK! The Godfather gimmick has to be one of the worst ever. The only (and I do mean the ONLY) reason why the Godfather is over is because he brings out scantily clad women with him. When he was Papa Shango, the Godfather was actually quite cool. He had a great gimmick and people were actually scared of him (well I was, although I was about 10 at the time). If he'd stuck with the gimmick, he'd probably be one of the top guys in the fed today. As it is, he's a low mid-carder, stuck with fighting a bunch of jobbers (although a possible fued with Steven Richards looks promising) and forced to do a whole load of lame moves (such as the leg drop where he bounces off the ropes and spins round). The cheap pop that the semi-naked women provide is the only reason why... Read review

I'll make him an offer he can't refuse
Review of The Godfather DVD by  tommy7

Advantages: Great Story
Disadvantages: 3 hours may be too long for some people

...After reading Mario Puzo's "The Godfather" I was interested to watch the films to draw a comparison between the two. I bought the 25th anniversary videos from Virgin where they are currently available in the 5 videos for £30 offer. I would recommend them to anyone but one thing I would point out is that there are interviews before the film starts. These interviews are mainly with the writer (Puzo) and the director (Francis Ford Coppola) and contain a lot of spoilers. They show scenes, which although they don't reveal too much at the beginning of the video, when the film reaches that point you know what is happening next. I was really surprised by this; surely this would have been better at the end of the film? The only reason I can think it was shown at the beginning is a lot of people may have missed it, as they may not sit through... Read review

The Best epic ever made!!!
Review of The Godfather DVD by  herby30

Advantages: The orginal and best ganster flick
Disadvantages: lots of violence

...Francis Ford Coppola is a great director who has let us down with the production of such films as Peggy Sue Got Married and Bram Stokers Dracula but redeems himself with such films as the "Godfather" , "The Conversation," and "Apocalypse Now", some of the most influential films of the 70's. Of the Godfather trilogy, the first is by far the best and most memorable. It shows Coppola's talent in being able to craft a story with an outstanding appeal to everyone remaining strong to his vision. "The Godfather" does not resemble anything like any gangster film before it. It's also much more ambiguous morally compared to the usual gangster film. The fine line between crime and justice is blurred sometimes beyond distinction because of all the politicians, police dept's etc on payroll, and the Corleone family surprisingly at times act...
