...The Grizzly Man is a DVD which I bought for my hubby quite some time ago. It really is not my sort of thing so I didn?t go into watching it with the right frame of mind but I have to say I was slightly more impressed with t than I thought I would be. The film follows the life and work of Timothy Treadwell who some might think is a bit strange as he spend 6 months of each year moving to Alaska to live with the grizzly bears. He has done so for well over 10 summers and he has always taken his camera so he can record his findings. We see Treadwell living and working and even interacting with the giant bears and telling us all about how he manages to understand them. At times Treadwell does take along his girlfriend who I personally think must be crazy to want to live with bears but I mean if that is what she likes then good for her...

The Right To Arm Bears...

Advantages: A peep at a fascinating trainwreck of a man, with awe-inspiring wildlife footage
Disadvantages: Nothing significant

What starts out as a straightforward tale of a man at one with nature, Timothy Treadwell, in this case bears in the Alaskan wild, slowly evolves into an intoxicating dissection of a fantasist having a nervous breakdown during his own video diary; eventually provoking his own death on tape with the animals he was infatuated with, taking his unfortunate girlfriend, Amy Hugeunard, with him to their 'grizzly' death, the footage Treadwell's unwitting suicide note. And that's no pun as that's where the saying came from. Being mauled and clawed by a 300lb Grizzly Bear is not the best...

Advantages: Great story, told by a great film maker.
Disadvantages: DVD itself is a bit threadbear.

...Timothy Treadwell was an idiot. He went mostly alone, and unarmed, into practically the most remote nature reserve on the planet and took a one-man stance against abuse of the grizzly bear. When these vicious carnivores got too close, he would talk them out of it with a sappy, childish voice. Timothy Treadwell was ever so resourceful. The landscape involved is stunning through a camera but must be hellish in reality. However, he seems to have survived on whatever he took with him on the flying boat, or fished for, and never seemed to mind the inevitable mouthful of flies at every breath. Timothy Treadwell was very lucky. Surely hardly anyone else has been so close to two huge male grizzly bears fighting over a female. Nothing to grizzle about at the Grizzly!

Advantages: Delicious food, fun atmosphere

...I heard about the Grizzly House in Banff long before I went there. Mr Tart, who had been there before, raved about the place so when we booked a skiing holiday to Banff this Grizzly was high on our list of restaurants to visit. The Grizzly started life as a disco but is now a fondue restaurant. LOCATION: You will probably be able to smell the Grizzly long before you spot the restaurant ? but this is not a bad thing! The smell of meat filters down Banff Avenue. A friend of mine who was working in Banff and came with us to the restaurant said you could always tell who?d been to the Grizzly because you could smell the meat on them as soon as they walked into the shop! Advantages: easy to operate, good second hand value

We operate a company in Scotland offering Quad Bike Treks for anybody over the age of sixteen, in other words the bikes are used a lot and by anybody from beginners to more experienced riders. Whatever bikes we use have to be mechanically reliable and be able to withstand some abuse. Up until the beginning of this year we used the Breeze model, mostly because its small and light, not too small but still light enough that one person can lift the bike ? pretty useful when you are on your own with a bogged down bike! Another reason for the choice being they are Semi-Automatic put it in forward gear push throttle and it goes, no gear changes to worry about. Anyway back to the review if you are thinking about buying a quad, you can?t go far wrong...

A Grizzly's lot is not a happy one!

Advantages: Gentle educational storyline, based on observation of nature, slight historical interest
Disadvantages: Maybe too tame for today's readership, even if very sad at the end

The drab pale green cover gave no indication of the delight I would find inside. Were it not for the intriguing title I would have passed it by. I knew nothing of the prolific career of Ernest Thompson Seton ? also known as ?Black Wolf?, and I knew very little about Grizzly Bears. But curiosity caused me to pick it up. With some surprise I noticed its age ? I was holding a 1910 edition of a book which had first been published in 1899. I flicked through its pages which included full-page drawings of grizzly bears and smaller line drawings all round the narrative. I turned to ?Part I ? The Cubhood of Wahb?, and began to read: ?He was born over a score of years ago, away up in the wildest part of the wild West...

The $3 million Man

Advantages: Excellent acting, powerful story
Disadvantages: Dated now

...and powerful way. I thought that they portrayed the suffering of an autistic savant person very well and did not make the character out to be stupid or less of a man than he was. I thought that Dustin Hoffman who played Raymond did an amazing job and I am so glad that he won an Oscar for his performance. He managed to make me feel a whole different range of emotions, one minute I was feeling sorry for him as he was unable to take being out of his routine and the next minute I would be laughing at him for some silly story he was telling Charles. He really did the role justice and had me believing that he really was a sufferer. Tom Cruise played the role of Charles and at the beginning of the film I did not warm to his character as he was quite arrogant but after about half an hour I did start to warm to him and I liked how he managed to portray...

Advantages: Mildly diverting

...stereotype, is still good for a few laughs) and Jean's would-be suitor Lenny, full-time baker and Styx (lame US soft rock band) obsessive. Apart from Lance's bitching, the dialogue is almost quip free, running on accepted homilies (everything has two sides) and pseudo-philosophical musings on the nature of women from Ben. It's a shame the main would-be boyfriends are seriously under-written, existing solely to prop up the self esteem of the two female leads. However, it is refreshing to see a teen flick where the adolescent lead shares screen-time almost equally with her mother. But you have to be willing to accept the fact that the writers think that all women need a man to validate their existence. The majority of the comedy is situational but far from original, with the biggest laugh coming from a "Say Anything" parody that has Lenny climbing...
