Reviews of the guardian
The Guardian of the left
Review of The Guardian by
Mel27
Advantages: Easily available; good value for money; soon to be in Berliner size
Disadvantages: Quite bulky due to lots of supplements; no "Northerner" section in the newspaper
...I quite like The Guardian. I don't buy it every day - I mainly get it on Mondays when it has the Media supplement - but I certainly try and read the news and features on the website. I sometimes read the newspaper in the library as well.
The Guardian newspaper, which is a national, daily broadsheet, began life as the "Manchester Guardian" in 1821 and it had its roots firmly in the North West until the word "Manchester" was dropped from the title in 1959. In 1961 the newspaper began to print in London. By 1964, its editorial headquarters had moved to the capital. Since then, it's had a very London-centric view of domestic news. Its international news often focusses on human rights issues and equality issues, as well as the day-to-day stories which feature in other newspapers.

THE GUARDIAN.
Review of The Guardian by
Morning_Becomes_Electra
Advantages: A good value, excellent read.
Disadvantages: None.
...--THE GUARDIAN---
When I buy a paper I want one that offers great all round content. I really look forward to Saturday when I purchase the Guardian. It's just really good value. I don't really get much time these days to actually read a newspaper during the week, as I am so busy writing all the time, but I still try to find time to read a few newspapers at the weekends. My newspaper of choice for Saturday is the Guardian broadsheet.
Sister newspaper to the Observer, the Guardian has been in business as a daily newspaper following the early success of the Manchester Guardian. The Guardian is quite simply great news with in depth analysis. What I find useful about the Guardian is its sectioning of content. It's a good value read with intelligent comment and Saturdays just wouldn't be the same without it for me. Awarded...

Thank God for the Guardian
Review of The Guardian by
aprose
Advantages: good range of views
Disadvantages: does conform to some stereotypes
...The Guardian has a somewhat ambivalent image. The term ‘Guardian reader’ is synonymous with the sort of hand-wringing liberalism that seeks to change the ‘racist’ lyrics of ‘Baa Baa Black-Sheep’. I must admit that in my time I have been a vociferous critic of the Guardian. The purpose of this review is not to refute these criticisms- they have a basis in truth- but to detail why, despite this, the Guardian is the only newspaper that I buy on a regular basis.
The Guardian’s politics are self-consciously liberal with a small ‘l’. It is not aligned to any political party and the common conception of it, as a ‘left-wing’ newspaper is just wrong. It is true that people with less mainstream, more radical views (protesters, pressure groups, radical politicians and so on...

Guardian, news for the pinker thinker
Review of The Guardian by
Martinscholes
Advantages: Generally a good read
Disadvantages: Too London-centric
...The Guardian, bless it! If it didn't exist, someone would have to invent it! Originally this paper was called The Manchester Guardian. A surprise to many readers of that august newspaper, as it does seem far too London-centric these days. It was launched in 1821, by a group of Liberals. It is interesting to note that, 184 years later, it is still, broadly, a Liberal paper.
The paper lost the "Manchester" from it's title in 1959, this was to reflect the "national" nature of the paper. Apparently. This caused some unease amongst some readers. What caused a bigger furore was when, in 1970, the main editorial offices and production facilities were sucked away into distant London. As one long-time reader from the North West told me: "The rot that set in with the name change really took a hold when our paper was stolen by London!"

A return to form for 'Guardian!
Review of Twist In The Myth, A - Blind Guardian by
Melvyninja
Advantages: Fresh, Original, Classic
Disadvantages: May not appeal to everyone
...Hansi Kursch and co lead us not into temptation, but into A Twist In the Myth with the new album. A Mixed album, containing the more Epic songs we have seen them grow up with, and the more 'Majesty', 'Guardian of the Blind' style songs. A change of drummers doesnt necassarily dictate a change of style, and Blind Guardian are true to form with this blinder!
A good album to start listening to 'Guardian, it contains songs that should appeal to all metal fans, with balladic rock peices such as Carry the Blessed home, rock songs like Another Stranger Me, Otherland, This Will Never End and Lionheart, Epic pieces like Skalds and Shadows and Turn the Page.
The Album also contains an interview with the bandmembers concerning the album, upcoming music and the new drummer.
The album contains a little easter egg, the song Dead Sound...

Guardian Angel
Review of The Guardian by
Okocha
Advantages: Informative, detailed, non-sensationalist, Varied, Supplements
Disadvantages: Too many supplements, hard to read on cramped public transport
...Evryone has a favourite weekly paper - everyone that is apart from me - until recently. I have purposely given every newspaper a try, from broadsheets to tabloids, and even the Daily Star. Whilst still favouring a tabloid for those cramped tube trips to work, The Guardian has shot to the top of the list and is a must.
Once you've sifted through the piles of supplements which accompany any broadsheet (especially at weekends), The Guardian is head and shoulders above the rest in terms of content and that, at the end of the day, is why we purchase reading material.
The news section is informative, well-written without being sensationalist - there is nothing worse than papers such as The Sun screaming out a catchy headline about a tragic rail crash. The journalists are respected and give good opinion. The sports section is excellent...
