Advantages: Infectious songs that make you feel you can take on the world

...When I first heard the Hives I pretty much immediately fell in love with them. It was on Xfm and I was revising for exams that I just couldn't be bothered to do. My dad was shouting at me for not working hard enough and I felt a combination of aggression and depression - summed up as 'pissed off'. Then my radio bursts into life with a sound of a guitar being played in the way bands such as The Clash and The Rolling Stones can have an appreciation for. Then the drums burst in with a swaggering crash of cymbols only to be followed by a simple yet loud and head banging thwack of the snare drum before exploding into the meat of the song. This was 'Hate To Say I Told You So', the song that tells everyone it sees, "Hi, nice to meet you but if you get in my way, I will boot your insignificant arse into next Tuesday". It's a definate... ...Scurge Hive is a game that perhaps many would overlook but in my opinion it is a sloid platformer that is like he Metroid series. Because of its sci-fi action background the game should be packed to the brim with lots of nice effects and surprises for gamers With the games puzzle solving combat, Bright visuals, good uses of sound effects and creative boss battles that can keep you occupied for some time. But some of the downfalls of this game includes the poor aiming system, constant back tracking and limited length of the storyline. Over all Scurge Hive is a game that I would recommend as a rental as its lack of length in the story modes does not quite warrant a full purchase.... Read review

Advantages: Energetic, jumpy songs filled with enthusiasm

...The Hives are an acclaimed Swedish Garage Rock band, only just having come into the full mainstream charts with this fantastic album, despite the fact that they have been around for AGES. They released their first album back in 1997. The band was formed in a small town called Fagersta when all members - Vigilante Carlstroem (guitar), Dr Matt Destruction (bass), Howlin' Pelle Almqvist (vocals), Chris Dangerous (drums) and Nicholaus Arson(guitar) - were still in their teens, in 1993. As aforementioned, they released their first album, "Barely Legal" in 1997, then "Veni Vidi Vicious" in 1999 and "Your New Favourite Band" in 2000. Not much background information is known about The Hives, as they prefer to shroud themselves in mystery. Advantages: It's only rock 'n' roll, but I like it.
Disadvantages: Couple of weak tracks. Might already own material.

...it was ME that did them. Ha! Unless you’re a Scanner in which case – get out of my head! This is not to say that I “discovered” The Hives (for it is them) by accident – Zane and his chin had been playing the video for “Die, All Right!” for a while, and the band did have 2 more records out before “Veni…” (the “Barely Legal” LP and the a.k.a. i-d-i-o-t EP). BUT it’s fricking fantastic to see the cheeky whippersnaps get some recognition, beating the Strokes into a bloody pulp (here’s hoping, anyway – who the f**k decided moaning in rock was trendy again?) and spitting horse pish into the eyes of Creed. ...So in 2001 The Hives burst onto the scene with “Your New Favourite Band” the album that brought them into the limelight here in Britain. But that’s not the whole story because in fact, Your New Favourite Band was basically a greatest hits album designed for the exact purpose of breaking into the European and American markets. And to be fair to them it did exactly what they set out to do, but for this op I’m going to go back to 2000 and to the album “Veni Vidi Vicious” where 4 of the tracks for Your New Favourite Band came from. If you don’t know the Hives are a Swedish 5 piece with a bizarre sense of humour and some decent sounding new rock tunes. ...The Hives are a garage rock band from Fagersta in Sweden. Forming in 1993, the band have so far written and released four studio albums, and a compilation of material in the form of their 2001 release 'Your new Favourite Band'. Characterised by the howling vocals of front man Peter Almqvist, since 2001 the band have become extremely popular and their most successful release to date has been the track 'Hate to Say I Told You So' which is currently their only single to have graced the US Billboard Hot 100. It had been three years since we last heard new material from The Hives having released their critically acclaimed 'Tyrannosaurus Hives' album back in 2004, however the band are now back with a bang and have released a brand new studio album in the form of 'The Black and White Album'. Advantages: A few decent songs

...Once upon a time, I was very into the whole Punk Scene, by that I refer to what is currently known as the punk scene, ala all those bands on Epitaph records and such, NOFX,Pennywise...you know the type. Im not now, but I can still look back on some CDs purchased during this time, and semi-relate to what I was enjoying in them. One such CD I cannot is this. Because Im Mr.Finger On the Pulse (not really), I was actually alerted to Sweden's The Hives a good year or so before they became famous, and also grew to dislike them before they became famous. Don't like the Hives? My bandwagon you are jumping on. Ok, so Im sure others hated them first, but I deserve honourable mention, because I liked them for a bit before seeing the light.
