Sleepy Hollow has to be one of my all time favourite films, it is a visually stunning picture and i never get tired of watching it.
Based on the original 1820 short story 'The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow' by Washington Irving, the film is directed by Tim Burton and it gets a few new twists with him at the helm for the big screen adaption.
I think that Burton was a great choice of director...

Shallow Man, Hollow Movie, Great DVD Package
Review of Hollow Man (Wide Screen) by
wampyrii
Advantages: Great special effects, really thorough DVD package, if you like the movie then you'll love the DVD...simple as that.
Disadvantages: The movie itself is a bit lacking in many departments...particularly in the cranial cavity. *sigh* Oh and Kevin Bacon's arse gets its seemingly obligatory, almost Hitchcockian walk-on part once more :P
...[Region 2 DVD review. The contents of other formats may vary]
Hollow Man is a movie which I reeeeeally wanted to see after catching a minor TV spot around the time of its release. I loved the 30's film version of The Invisible Man starring Claude Rains and was looking forward to seeing more of the same ideas explored with all the additional benefits modern day special effects technology might add in the eye-candy department. James Whale's 1933 classic tracks the slow decent into madness of a man trapped in a world of shadows, saying much about the human condition along the way and leaving much to ponder upon and it's fair to say I was looking forward to more of the same but without the naivity of 30's cinema from Hollow Man. Unfortunately, despite some of the claims to the contrary on the DVD commentary, Hollow Man appears absolutely...

Hollow by name...
Review of Hollow Man (Wide Screen) by
Howiemon
Advantages: Entertaining in a none too cerebral way. Special effects.
Disadvantages: Could have been sooo much better.
...The hardest part of writing a film review is coming up with a catchy opening sentence to grab the attention of the reader. (I seem to have failed miserably on this occasion!) Similarly it is just as important for any filmmaker to grab the attention of the viewer early on, something which Dutch director Paul Verhoeven seems to have no trouble in doing. Remember that first scene in Basic Instinct?
His latest venture is Hollow Man, which kicks off with one of the most shocking and in-your-face sequences since, well...since Basic Instinct!
Essentially a remake of "The Invisible Man", Hollow Man is a brash, overblown special-effects frenzy that, while very entertaining, is not quite as interesting or thought provoking as it could have been.
Kevin Bacon plays Sebastian Caine, a brilliant molecular-scientist who, with the help...

Hollow Plot, Hollow Characters....
Review of Hollow Man (Wide Screen) by
Blacknarwhal
Advantages: Kevin Bacon. Good action, and a nice sci-fi concept
Disadvantages: Stolen plotline. Horror cliches aplenty. Too many shots of Kevin Bacon's bare behind, and a horrible shot of his genitalia on infrared.
...Imagine, a movie that's perfectly named!
Hollow Man is the less-than-fleshed-out story about a brilliant scientist (biologist? geneticist? nuclear physicist? damned if I know?) with a profound God complex who's taken on a very Star Trek project for the government.
In fact, it's SO Star Trek that the basic concept was an episode of Next Generation in which Geordi and Ensign Ro, along with a rogue Romulan, did basically the same thing.
Phase shifting is the name of the game in Hollow Man. What Sebastian Kaine, brilliant scientist and egotist extraordinaire, is trying to do is take biological life and put it essentially one second ahead of the rest of the world. Once the specimen is just a second ahead of the rest of us, it can no longer be perceived in the visible spectrum. However, since it's out in front, it can perceive us...

Hollow promises
Review of Hollow Man (Wide Screen) by
Daren
Advantages: I bought it on DVD and sold it for more than I paid
Disadvantages: A really bad movie
...Hollow Man is really a supercharged update of The Invisible man with amazing special effects.
The story is set in a secret underground laboratory where a team of scientists lead by Dr Sabastain Caine (Kevin Bacon) have been experimenting with animals for the defence department. As the story begins they have been able to make animals invisible but as yet have been unable to make them re-appear.
Well to cut a long story short, they successfully bring back a Gorilla from being invisible and Dr Caine puts himself forward as a Human Guinea pig to become the first invisible human.
Obviously the first thing you do when you become invisible is mess with peoples mind. The team of scientists soon get wind of this and take precautions (heat seeking cameras) so that Dr Caine can be tracked anywhere in the Laboratory.
As obvious...

Sleepy Hollow Head and tales above the rest
Review of Sleepy Hollow DVD by
dishyplum
Advantages: Tim Burton directs
Disadvantages: Johnny Depps dodgy accent.
...Rated 15
Runtime 104mins
Starring:
Johnny Depp (Benny + Joon/Don Juan De Marco)
Christina Ricci (Casper/Adams family)
Also starring:
Michael Gambon
Christopher Lee
Casper Van Dien
Michael Gough
Christopher Walken
Mard Pickering
Miranda Richardson
Jeffrey Jones
Director: Tim(BATMAN)Burton
The masterful Tim Burton bring's his twisty sense of fairytale grandure to his game adaption of Washington Irwin's early American tale of horror.
The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow
He's shortened the title to just sleepy hollow, to prepare us I guess for the wild liberties he's taken with the material.
This is a movie thats steaped in death and yet drolly played ~ a film which even the living already look deceased with pale dry skin and dead vacant eyes. It's an idea that Burton probably got from those old Peter Cushing...

Bury this film in the Hollow!
Review of Sleepy Hollow DVD by
JAS
Advantages: Excellent atmospheric setting.
Disadvantages: Corny horror, and not frightening.
...A good film should leave an impression, and keep the viewer thinking well after he has left the cinema. If this is true, then
Sleepy Hollow was not a good film.
It was a great spectacle to watch. The scenery was its selling point, and purely as an atmospheric two hours of film, it was
excellent. The misty forests, the old fashioned American buildings, and the costumes were indeed flawless. The pictorial side of
the film truly evoked a sense of the film’s setting. All the ingredients were set for a horror story, however, the film just wasn’t
scary. Actor Johnny Depp played the main character, Icabod Crane, a ‘scientist’ who has been sent from New York to
Sleepy Hollow to investigate several mysterious murders in the village. His character, though, was unbelievable at times. The
way his emotions rarely changed helped make...

Wide Awake Hollow
Review of Sleepy Hollow DVD by
wemstalker
Advantages: A good film
Disadvantages: none
...Johnny Depp plays Constable Ichabod Crane a 1799 Policeman who’s keenly interested in all the latest methods and gadgets of Police work. He is sent to the remote village of Sleepy Hollow to investigate several deaths by beheading, apparently the work of a headless horseman. Crane doesn’t believe this to be true, instead thinking the killer to be flesh and bone just like everyone else, but as his investigation continues the evidence starts to point to the actually existence of the horseman.
Christina Ricci, who plays Katrina, provides the love interest and is quite taken with Ichabod, who himself is quite a manic character, but also a fun one. The young son o | | |
