Hounded to death
Advantages: The story
Disadvantages: So-so acting, strange accents
...Sir Charles Baskerville dies on the moors, supposedly killed by the curse that has affected the Baskerville family for a couple of centuries, which is thought to be in the form of a giant dog - the hound of the title. When the new Baskerville, Sir Henry, inherits, his friends are eager that he does not fall foul to the curse, and so approach famous detective Sherlock Holmes to help them. Holmes agrees to let his assistant, Dr Watson, accompany Sir Henry to the Baskervilles ancestral home, claiming to be too busy himself. He does, however, receive letters from Dr Watson with a detailed summary of goings-on, both on the part of Sir Henry and his neighbours, the Stapletons. Can Dr Watson save Sir Henry from the curse? Or is it fate?
There have been so many versions of this story, based on the original novel by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle...

The Hounds of Love
Advantages: Big due to the remastered version. Kate Bush at her very best.
Disadvantages: a couple of unnecessary tracks.
...of a different inspiration, something real and natural, not dissimilar to the feelings of roaming and freedom experienced in the early pages of the book Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte, a novel that in my opinion is a perfect companion to some of Kate Bush's more romantic pieces. Whatever that energy was that she was looking for, she found it and conveyed faultlessly in the first half of the album (Hounds of Love).

The fox and the hound
Advantages: Great film for children
Disadvantages: None
...Being a mother of two I have a very busy life, if it not my little girl wanting something you can bet you last pound it's my 1 year old son wanting something. My little girl has lots and lots of toys but as soon as i get my son to sleep about 1pm in the afternoon my little girl always want's to play with the noises toy she has, so yesterday afternoon when I got my son to sleep I put on THE FOX AND THE HOUND.
I don't agree with sticking children in front of the T.V just to keep them quite but my son needed a good sleep and i just needed my little girl to be quite just for a few hours.
As the film just started I thought I would just do some tidying up, you know put the toys back in the toy box, and clear the table from dinner, well i got the toys in the toy box and that was it, before i knew it i was sit in front of the T.V watching...

Hounds of Love - Kate Bush
Advantages: Almost perfect album, improved seperation of sounds in remastered form.
Disadvantages: One or two slightly weaker tracks.
...I'm not a hugely rabid Kate Bush fan. I've pretty much liked all her singles over the years but having tried most of her albums I can't say that I really thought much of most of the tracks presented on them. However, Hounds of Love is something else.
After an initially busy period, Kate Bush has been somewhat sporadic in her output although I'd saying raising a family is a fair reason so all kudos to her for doing the right thing. Hounds of Love did pop out a bit later than most people expected but when it did it showed a radical departure from her previous work and presented an interesting fusion of Fairlight samples, Irish rythyms and all manner of odd sounds and structures.
I bought the original when it first came out on CD, it was one of the very first CDs available and as I gingerly dropped it in to my top loading Phillips...

Henry Hound - the Family Pet
Advantages: Well designed - Easy to Use
Disadvantages: No onboard tool holder
...I had a Dyson - what more can I say? (read my other review)
After months of tolerating the Dyson I finally cut my losses and looked for a new vaccuum cleaner. I am so glad I did!!
My friend, who is a fanatical cleaner, recommended Numatic Henry and his pals. Numatic design for industry, so their machines are no nonsense, robust and easy to use. They come with a 2 year guarantee which says something for the manufacturer's confidence in their product.
Henry Hound is one of the Henry range of cleaners which are designed to meet a variety of needs. He has an Odourtex filter which extracts doggy (and other) smells from the carpet as he cleans. This really works too.
His other main difference from the standard Henry is a turbo head (the brushes go round). You can buy a turbo head for a standard Henry, but the one that...

Aliens & Your Earth Hounds
Advantages: Looking at life through an alien's eyes
Disadvantages: none
...***Background***
This is one in a whole series of books about how Dr Xargle looks at things on Earth from his home on a bizarre planet where he lectures to his students. Jeanne Willis is the author of this strange but very funny series and her words are helped along by the illustrations of Tony Ross, who is of course so well known for his lovable character, The Little Princess.
***The Story***
When we open the book we see Dr Xargle, who is a green alien with many eyes long straggly arms. He informs his class that today they are going to learn about Earth Hounds.
We are told that they have fangs at one end and a waggler at the other but sometimes it can be difficult to tell which end is which when the Earth Hound is hairy, so a sausage can be held at either end to find this out.
He goes on to explain that they have...

Zoltan, Hound of Dracula - totally barking vampire flick.
Advantages: You'll spend more time laughing rather than shaking behind the sofa
Disadvantages: Weak story. Quite annoying at times.
...Zoltan, Hound of Dracula (also known as Dracula's Dog) is a vampire film with a twist. The vampires in this film are dogs. Set in modern times, (the film was made in 1978), the story starts in the old country, Romania. All the vampires are dead, having been slain and entombed. Such a tomb is uncovered by the Russian military, who are carrying out excavations in the area. Not knowing what they have stumbled upon at first, a single soldier is posted to guard the underground crypt. During the night, a certain event sees one of the coffins falling from its resting place, and due to an act of stupidity from the guard, Zoltan is awakened. Zoltan, a large, muscular hound (looks like a Doberman), goes on to release another vampire, a vampire slave/servant of Dracula played by Reggie Nalder (better known for playing the lead vampire in the 1970's...

Numatic "Henry Hound" - a doggy prayer answered.
Advantages: A simple, bombproof, highly efficient, and lovable piece of engineering.
Disadvantages: Plastic hoses, no on-board stowage of accessories.
...As a retired dog owning batchelor cleaning is not my priority in life but removing long white German Shepherd hairs from every square inch of my flat is an ongoing nightmare that just has to be addressed.
I borrowed a few vacuum cleaners to see if they would cope including a Dyson which, as an engineer, I thought was a brilliant but over complex concept. It also seemed to have the longevity of a take away container.
Eventually having tried a Numatic Henry wet 'n dry which had great "suck" but no powered head I took the plunge and ordered a "Henry Hound". On arrival, and with some trepidation, I unpacked it, connected the hoses etc, put on the 24v power head [which was quite heavy] and pressed the button.
My "test" lasted half an hour by which time every corner of the flat was devoid of dog hairs, dust, and even chewed wood...

Horse and Hound is no good
Advantages: Classifieds
Disadvantages: Too expensive, boring
...Horse and Hound magazine is my least favourite of all the equestrian magazines. I find it very patronising and doesn't have enough articles in it that the everyday rider can relate to. It comes out every week and is quite expensive and really mounts up if you want to read every issue. It has news on what is going on in the equestrian world in each discipline including hunting, eventing, dressage and racing. All of these articles are in my opinion too in-depth for someone who isn't involved and I find when I read it I only read the show jumping page if I read all of that. I feel that the articles are too long and I often find them quite repetitive. Also, half the magazine is wasted just with results pages from every show you can think of that has happened that week which I think is a little unnecessary. Overall, I find that there are...
