Learning about the Human Body!
Review of The Human Body (Illustrated Guide) by
bluejules
Advantages: *
Disadvantages: *
...My parents bought me this book when I was about 10 years old as I used to be really into learning about the human body. I used to like looking at it but I though some parts were too complicated and stayed on the shelf in my wardrobe. I discovered it again a few weeks ago so as I'm doing anatomy as part of my Speech and Language Therapy course I decided to take a look.
Anatomy is the study of the structure of the human body and physiology is the study of the functions
~ About the Book ~
The first two pages of the book give an overview of the book. The book is divided into two main sections. The first section is the anatomy of the human body and the second section is about diseases and disorders. I'll talk about each section separately.
~ Anatomy of the Human Body ~
This section starts with a regional atlas...

Do you know what's in side your body?
Review of The Human Body (Magic Skeleton Book) - Janet Sacks by
kingfisher111
Advantages: great information book
Disadvantages: none
...I have a very inquisitive five year old daughter who forever seems to be asking questions that have me stumped particularly when these questions are to do with how our bodies work - I admit that I was never into Biology at school! This is why I was delighted when, in Marks and Spencer recently, I came across a book described as a magic skeleton book called The Human Body. It had a recommended age of five years plus so was absolutely ideal for Rachel's fifth birthday.
The book takes the form of a story and shows some children at school with their their teacher who explains that they are going to learn all about the human body. She then proceeds to talk about the skeleton moving on to the skull, the heart, the lungs, the stomach and finally cells - so really covering quite a lot of the different parts of the body! This story is just...

Body worlds...stripped bare...
Review of Body Worlds 4, Manchester by
Secre
Advantages: Starts well, some was scientific...the literature was interesting!
Disadvantages: Mostly non scientific, patronising and boring...without the arrogance of von Hagens
...I spent most of the last week in Burnley, near Manchester, visiting one of my relatives and for a day out her son took us to see the Body Worlds 4 exhibition at Manchester Science Museum. I deliberately asked for a new category for this because although it was at the museum it's a short term exhibit and the only real part of the museum we visited. The basic idea is that it is a display of dead bodies which is meant to educate the general public.
Cost: £10 adult
....... £8 student/elderly
........ £7 child - which is 16 and under
Dates: 22nd Feb - 29th June
Location: Museum of Science and Industry, Liverpool Road, Castlefield, Manchester, M3 4FP
=What is it
A German scientist called Gunther von Hagens has compiled a travelling exhibition of preserved human bodies and body parts that he prepares using a technique called...

Human or Animal
Review of Human Mixtard 30 (preloaded pen) by
dabmim
Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: see review
...Insulin is a hormone, which is produced in the body by the pancreas: the body requires insulin to turn the food we eat into energy!
Diabetics are treated in various ways (see my diabetic op). Some diabetics are given simply diet, others diet and tablet, while others have diet and insulin. Occasionally some people have all three.
Insulin currently comes in the form of injections, which after ‘training’ you are left to do yourself. There are several forms of insulin including animal and human. Human insulin does not originate from human though, instead it is made in factories using chemical to simulate the real thing. For a lot of people this is an ineffective form of treatment, though for me it has proved to work.
Human Mixtard
The insulin is a mixture of fast acting and slow release insulin. 30...

Here's Looking At Your Anatomy, Kid...
Review of Body: An Amazing Tour of Human Anatomy - Robert Winston by
CaptainDisaster
Advantages: Amazing pictures of the human body, concise explanations, very stylish presentation...
Disadvantages: ... not for the queasy! - doesn't fit easily into the average bookcase
...“BODY” - subtitled “An amazing tour of Human Anatomy” is a real gem of a book that explores the wonders of the human body. I’d never heard of it before, but when I saw it with its cover featuring and inside view of a head my curiosity was piqued, and when I delved into the book a little it looked absolutely fascinating. Written by Richard Walker with Robert Winston acting as Editorial Consultant, this is an incredible book that is both informative and visually stunning. It uses vivid 3D visualisations of the body – made from computer reconstructions of photographs taken of 1mm slices of a frozen dead body (donated to science). The book gives a reasonable amount of detail about how this was done. The photographs are then labelled and a 3D wireframe model is made up of the whole body, with colours and textures then applied from...

make your body better with hemp body butter
Review of The Body Shop Hemp Body Butter by
angiebabyqueen
Advantages: works a treat
Disadvantages: doesn't smell as nice as the melon body butter
...Out of all the body butters I’ve ever used, (and that was quite a few) this one works the best. If you have dry skin or just need good body butter, then go no further!
The body shop, famous for it’s no animal testing policy so that animals aren’t unnecessarily dieing, environmental policy so that you can recycle some of they’re packaging again, community trade so that farmers in other countries get the right price for what they’re growing, human rights so that they can raise money for the human rights charity, and most of all self esteem, their products will make you feel happier, and help you and feel good about yourself!
Hemp is an enclosed plant that is related to cannabis. TRUE, but the levels of cannabis in grade hemp are so small that you wonder what all the fuss is about. Hemp contains the necessary fatty acids that provide...

Destroy all Humans 2
Review of Destroy All Humans 2 (PS2) by
dirtybarry
Advantages: Being an alien & killing things
Disadvantages: Too similar to the original
...Destroy all humans 2 is a slight improvement on the original and improves on it a bit. If you haven't played the original then you will enjoy this one a lot - if your into the whole using alien weaponry to kill everything genre - if on the otherhand you have played the original then this will seem more like an expansion pack than a full game!
You begin as an alien, left on the earth in the swinging 60's. The game consists of missions which involve destorying things, getting information and killing people. You are able to just walk around blowing things up if you like, which is kinda fun for a while.
There are some decent weapons including the disintegrator and the ability to take over the humans bodies (bodysnatching), It also has a decent two player co-op mode which allows you to let a friend join you in causing destruction...
