Advantages: That yellow jumpsuit and a superb soundtrack
Disadvantages: Blood, death, mindless violence, spurting arteries and flying limbs.

...It’s entirely my own fault. I hate bloodshed and screen violence, and I have no interest in martial arts, Samurai fighting or Japanese manga and anime traditions. Yet – it was a night out with friends and I didn’t want to poop the party so I went with the flow and took my seat for the most anticipated movie of the year – Kill Bill Volume 1. Kill Bill is of course the fourth film to be written and directed by cinema’s one true maverick, Quentin Tarantino. I list Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown in my top ten films of all time, and although the violent aspects of the trailers had worried me, I was looking forward to enjoying those touches that only Tarantino has the balls to pull off. ...The Kills are a two-piece blues/rock hybrid consisting of VV (Alison Mosshart) on vocals and Hotel (Jamie Hince) on vocals and guitar. Allegedly the union of two former pen pals The Kills have been doing the rounds for a while now, touring and writing in preparation for their first full-length release. Their energy filled live shows have gained them many fans in both their home country the US and over here in the UK. On the stages it’s just the two of them while in the background lingers a jet black, HAL like drum machine, the rock upon which all of The Kills songs are built. Many of The Kills tracks have a lo-fi feel about them. Songs that have seemingly stolen the essence of a song from one of the old delta bluesmen and then revved up the guitar riff to sound like a hook from one of the classic Stooges songs. Armed with a blade fabricated from the finest Japanese steel and led by the need to avenge the death of her unborn baby, The Bride sets about the task in hand. Quite simply, she intends to Kill Bill. I’m not a fan of Quentin Tarantino films. For me, Pulp Fiction was grossly over-rated and Reservoir Dogs bored me senseless. You can imagine my surprise, therefore, when his 4th film, Kill Bill, entertained me more than any film I can recall in the last twelve months and beyond. I don’t think that Kill Bill could purport to be a masterpiece, but it does come pretty damn close and I have to say that I absolutely loved this film. Advantages: different plot, made me think
Disadvantages: none - apart from not knowing main characters name for this review!

...I hadn't read of Stephen White's books before but the spine stood out on the library shelf and the plot sounded interesting so I thought I'd give him a go. I've just gone to start writing about the plot and thought I can't remember the main characters name, so I've flicked back through the book and realised that it is never given which is quite clever and I didn't twig at all. So anyway, the story is told by a man who we know is very rich and successful and it starts with a prologue near the end of the story with him driving his car madly through the Colorado mountains and he feels is about to be killed by people he calls the Death Angels and he is desperately trying to avoid death. It then starts properly with the man who is in a session with his psychologist, Alan Gregory, and he tells the story of how he has ended up... Read review
