The sharpest knife in the draw
Review of Breville EK2 Carving Knife by
Miskah
Advantages: cuts very thinly and evenly
Disadvantages: carving style takes a while to get used to
...I like my roast meat and poultry sliced very thin and always have a problem keeping my carving knives sharp enough so this is the reason I thought I would try an electric carving knife. Initially the problem I had was the change in slicing style. With an electric carving knife, instead or sliding the knife back and forth through the meat gradually working your way down, you place the knife in position and exert a gentle steady downwards pressure until the knife slices off the piece. The knife itself creates the back and forth motion with its blade. This is the most difficult transition as the tendency to move the knife in a traditional manner remains.
The Breville EK2 isn’t my first electric carving knife; it’s a replacement for an old Russell Hobbs that had to be retired due to safety reasons. It was getting on in years...

Review of the Victorinox Century Swiss Army Knife
Review of Victorinox - Swiss Army Knife by
freelancer1
Advantages: Sharp serrated blade, attractive design.
Disadvantages: None that spring to mind.
...I am a little bit sad. You see, I'm a pen knife anorak...
I have four of the things, and use them for camping trips, jobs around the house and those bizarre tasks that pop up from time to time (ever got a lump of chewing gum stuck to your shoe before a meeting?!?) In short - I KNOW about penknives.
Features of the Victorinox Swiss Army Century Swiss Army Knife
Serrated/Straight blade - this is pulled out from the cover by gripping a little groove on the back of the blade. It is made of stainless steel, so it won't rust, and it "locks" when it is in line with the handle. The blade is 4" long and has about 60% serrated edge and 40% straight edge. It is an incredibly sharp blade that cuts just about anything - string...

A knife With A Point
Review of Victorinox Swiss Army Knife by
Massey42
Advantages: Sharp blades, expected host of features, Victorinox quality
Disadvantages: Reliability of electronics not proven
...This review is for a Victorinox Altimeter Swiss Army Knife. It was bought as a present so although I do not know exactly what it was bought for I have had a quick look around on the internet and standard prices seem to be around £50. This cost surprised me at first but I suppose you do get what you pay for.
Before I tell you about my experiences with this knife I will quickly outline it's features, which as expected for a Victorinox Knife is sufficiently long!
These features are taken directly from the manufacturers descriptions and I do find one or two of the features are a bit dubious, but on the whole they all function well:
1. large blade
2. small blade
3. corkscrew
4. can opener with - small screwdriver 3 mm (also for Phillips screws)
5. cap lifter with - screwdriver 6 mm - wire stripper
9. reamer, punch
10. key...

Knife to see you, to see you, knife....
Review of Victorinox - Swiss Army Knife by
colman
Advantages: Quality, sharp, well featured
Disadvantages: Mis-named range
...The Victorinox range of Swiss Army knives is impressive to say the least. When I went to buy one I was presented with a bewildering array of lethal implements withdifferent names such as the Hunter, the Waiter, the Sportsman, The Picknicker - and then I saw what I thought I would need - the CLIMBER. I do a lot of climbing in my spare time and there are occasions when you could really do with a decent kinfe to either clear some irritating vegetation or get your self out of a spot of bother (although i wouldn't recommend indiscriminately hacking at you ropes with ANY sort of knife...)
Imagine my surprise to discover that in fact CLEARLY the best knife for a climber is actually the PICKNICKER - it has a larger more useful blade, an attachment ring large enough to take a mini-karabiner and - most important of all - it can easily...

The Knife: Deep Cuts (Album Review)
Review of Deep Cuts - Knife (The) by
Miskin
Advantages: Original, Breakthrough, Heartbeats.
Disadvantages: Like Marmite.
...Swedish duo, 'The Knife' have been a massive inspiration for so many bands since their formation in 1999.
Deep Cuts was their second album, released in 2003 and the most astonishing thing about it is its originality. The Knife adhere to no rules, and with Deep Cuts, as with all their albums you embark upon a journey which is immensely enjoyable from beginning to end.
There is something haunting, fascinating and appealing about lead singer Karin Anderssons voice. It sounds as strange and different as the backing music which is generally electronica, but with odd twists such as throwing in some steel drums occasionally, particulaly in the second track 'pass this on'.
Deep Cuts is off course best known for the song 'Heartbeats'. It recieved more attention after having been covered acousticly by Jose Gonzalez, however as any Knife...

Swiss Army Knife - Don't camp without it
Review of Victorinox - Swiss Army Knife by
ozcr
Advantages: so many different varieties, for whatever purpose
Disadvantages: may need oiling if not kept properly
...The Victorinox Swiss Army Knife is an essential tool for anyone going on any sort of a camping trip or hike. These knives can be found anywhere in the world with a huge assormtment of functionalities. They can be as small as your pinky or as long as your middle finger and as fat as a hot dog bun. If you are really out in the woods or somewhere else in the middle of nowhere, a knife will always come in handy as might a saw and scissors and the whole lot of things that come on those knives. Some of them even have compasses (extremely useful tool). You can get addons to your knives as well. If you wear glasses you can get a special little screw device that screws into the cork puller-outer, which has such a small screwing nozzle that it is perfect for tightening your lenses. The hook is great for tightening those hard to tighten...

Cuts like a (really bloody sharp) knife.
Review of Stanley Dynagrip Instant Change Knife by
tallulahbang
Advantages: Works well if used with caution.
Disadvantages: Will perform impromptu amputations if used by spackers.
...wardrobes into one big bowl, lost one set of instructions and then left everything lying like that.' In short, my mum lies. All the damn time. And I am gullible.
Because of this trusting nature and tendency to believe unquestioningly what I'm told, I took at her at her word and drove up on Saturday morning. I saw the 'all but made' furniture and had a little bit of a weep to myself before looking at the instructions to see what tools I needed. The wardrobes called for a set of screwdrivers, an electric screwdriver, a hammer, a mallet and a Stanley knife (incidentally, the murder of an Irish mother requires a not dissimilar shopping list).
I drove to the local hardware shop (which is run by a man who looks phenomenally like Tom from Father Ted, and who, pleasingly, is also called Tom) to get the knife and the hammer (the rest...

The subtle Knife
Review of His Dark Materials II: The Subtle Knife - Philip Pullman by
x_nic_x
Advantages: Reasonably short, Great Characters and storyline
Disadvantages: None that i can see
...and final bokk which will complete the trilogy.
Having never read any of Phillip Pullman's novels other than the trilogy that The Subtle Knife belongs to, i cant compare this to any of his other works. However in comparison to other authors such as JK Rowling and Tolkein, it stands out a lot.
Every writer has a special talent, Phillip Pullman is able to give a sudden change of emotion to the book where other writers would find this difficult. The storyline focuses on the idea of magic and other worlds. A different type of magic to the likes of Harry Potter however. When reading The Subtle Knife you notice that although it can be classed as a childrens book, it sounds so much more ' grown up', also the storyline is surpisingly believable and leaves you wondering if such miracles as travel between different worlds is possible and if they could...

Cuts like a knife
Review of His Dark Materials II: The Subtle Knife - Philip Pullman by
Psychgirl
Advantages: clever and imaginative
Disadvantages: depressing in parts
...I enjoyed Northern Lights so much I had to know what happened next. The Subtle Knife introduces Will and our world. In far too many "fantasy world meets our reality" stories the plot starts to unravel, but the Subtle Knife is stronger for the introduction of our reality. Will's life has been harsh and difficult. He is older than his years, due in part to his caring for his mentally unstable mother.
Yet again, Pullman pulls no punches. I can't count the times I have been bored to tears watching and reading stories where it is clear the endangered protangonist will always escape. So I appreciate Pullman's williness to sacrifice characters to give the story strength and meaning. But enough already! Will and Lyra's story is nowhere as harsh as the fate of Sally Lockhart - Pullman's other fantasy series, but death after death gets...

Swiss Army Huntsman Knife - Not Just For Hunting!
Review of Swiss Army Huntsman Knife by
Haxrskilz
Advantages: Plenty of tools, small size.
Disadvantages: Pricing could be considered steep, tweezers and toothpicks easily lost.
...*Product*
Small, smart, safe - three words out of many that could be used to describe how useful the Swiss Army Huntsman Knife is. With a size being slightly smaller than an average male middle-finger, and yet still thinner than a thumbs width, it is no wonder that it is more commonly known as a the more popular 'Pocketknife' - a place where it is perfectly safe to hold, might I add.
As with most items, the size has no impact on the innards of the instrument, although it is definitely helpful that it can slide neatly in and out of the palm of your hand, but, have no qualms about it; the durable plastic outer-shell (usually in a firetruck red, but comes in a range of colours) a slight grip of the hand will keep it in place.
As with all Swiss Army Knives, this comes with strong stainless steel and some dangerously sharp edges (Warning...
