Out of the three BBC digital channels, this is the one that offers the most interactive output and has the potential to be a great asset to the UK as an information source. ...Charles Van Doren undertook an ambitious project in this book, which according to its cover blurb purports to be 'a compendium of everything that humankind has thought, invented, created, considered, and perfected from the beginning of civilisation into the twenty-first century.' There are, alas, a few things missing, as this book only has a bit over 400 pages. But that does not really detract from the thesis of the book; it is certainly a worthy outline of human history, particularly approached through the lens of intellectual achievement and the advance of knowledge. From the ancients all over the world in the earliest civilisations, Van Doren largely traces the Western tradition of intellectual development, being his own intellectual lineage. ...The game of Knowledge will have you seeing stars - and planets too for that matter. Players have to traverse the solar system answering trivia questions as they go. Of course, getting the answer correct will aid the traveller in his/her progress and of course wrong answers mean delays. The object of the game is to be the first to reach the mystical planet Galaxia beyond our solar system. Of course all this space travel is merely a way of providing extra interest in a reasonably entertaining questions and answer game. Each time a player rolls the dice they move their token along the board answering general knowledge questions if they land on an arrow or a specialist question if they land on a meteor or planet space. ...My daughter started to play jump ahead year 1 when she was about four years old, you were able to see the progress that she had made by using this computer learning game. Jump ahead year 1 is for children aged between five and six, the attraction of this game is the green frog that introduces you to all the links through out this learning game. When the game is loaded it takes you to the first screen where you sign in then you will be taken in to the classroom where there are several topics to choose from. When you completed each topic you will earn a bottle top which you collet.There are several other rooms for you to go in and learn more and collect bottle tops.
