...My husband and I got engaged at this Chinese restaurant just over 7 years ago and we decided to indulge in one of our favourite cuisines for a "last supper" as our second child is due in one week, and we felt we should relish some quality time before it is impossible to find a babysitter who will look after a 3 year old and a newborn! Yim Wah House first opened in 1996, which surprised me as I thought it was much more established. It is run by the Yeung family, who completely refurbished it in the autumn of 2004 turning it into a very modern, stylish city style open-plan restaurant. Then the choice of four different main course dishes which always include a vegetarian option. Then comes the best part of the evening- the home made deserts which you can have as many as you can eat! Finally theres the cheese and biscuits which are delicious! The staff are always very helpful and nice. The decor in Lechalde is very traditional and quite posh. The building itself is a former 16th century coaching inn with a dovecote and domed ceiling. It has the capacity to seat 78 people. Dress is smart casual (no jeans allowed). ...As I've decided to lose a few pounds (well, a couple of stones if I'm ruthlessly honest) I thought with tomorrow being Monday what better day to start? So today has been a 'last treat' day and how better to end my day than a nice cooked meal of a Cheese & Ham Kiev with southern fried chips. The Kiev's I've just sampled are the Asda's own version and I can say before I even start my review they were delicious. A box contains four Chicken Kiev's with a ham and cheese filling and even before cooking you can see they are a decent size. The box is a basic affair, simply showing a kiev which has been cut open with a thick looking cheese sauce flowing from inside. The pieces of ham in the photograph look unconvincingly large but that's so it distinctly shows the kiev in all it's ham and cheesiness. The serving suggestion on the box... Read review

...Before I kick-started the diet, I decided to allow myself one last treat. The family were ordering in Chinese so I thought I'd have something. I've always loved Chinese, though I'd not had anything from the Top Wok Chinese Takeaway in Newcastle before. I was assured that their food was nice, so I began browsing the menu. Okay, so there's nothing about this menu that stands out compared to other Chinese menus; the basic dishes are offered, along with a few meal deals and family 'banquets'. With all that selection, I didn't have a clue what I fancied, but thankfully my step-dad suggested we split the 'Treasure' Banquet' from the Appetisers. ...Do you want pasta for supper? Its easy cooks in 10 -15 minutes and there are a variety of sauces to add to it what I shall make tonight something quick and easy so I shall use a saccla sauce I have in the store cupboard it's an olive and tomato stir through sauce. I bought it at Tesco last week cost me £1.77p for the 190g jar. It's not the cheapest pasta sauce available but the Saccla make is one of the tastier. The jar is not really big enough on its own to add to pasta for a family meal, but it's just the two of us now with grown up daughter left home. All I have to do is to cook my pasta and stir in this sauce heat it for a little while and its ready to eat. Opening the jar we have a thick chunky sauce It has a tomato and olive spicy herby smell. .... Trays are not removed as soon as you've finished the last morsel and your bill will not come until you ask for it. When you have finished your meal and been given the bill, payment is taken at a till by the take-away counter. Food~ Now this is why you come to a Rick Stein restaurant and despite the humble roots you won't be disappointed. Stein is proud of the claim that the majority of his fish is caught off the coast of Cornwall and is brought directly to his restaurants and this is reflected in the quality of the food on offer. The food is cooked to order and there appears to be no stinting in the preparation or ingredients. The batter is a deep golden colour and flaky rather than soggy and the chips are dry and crispy and taste how you always hope chips will. ...Having shopped for goodies today at the English shop, I am really pleased that today they had Tescos crumpets because I know that I can look forward to these for my supper tonight after a dreadfully disappointing lunch today. Tescos crumpets come in a pack of 6 and here in France they cost me the equivalent of 80p, but to my mind this really is a good spend because on a cold winters evening, these make a superb supper. Wrapped in a cellophane pack, I find it easy to keep these fresh by folding the pack over but let's face it, they won't last long enough to get stale. I have tried all brands of crumpets and none of them disappoint me at all, so compared with others, I would say that the Tescos ones are a fair comparison at a fair price. To those who have never tasted crumpets, I would say that they are missing out on the better... Read review
