Playing with the lions
Advantages: good toy
Disadvantages: none
...You had better be careful if you come to play with me today. The Lions are out!
I opened that packet of playmobil lions we got from the playmobil site http://www.playmobil.de/on/demandware.store/Sites-GB-Site/enGB/Product-Sho w?pid=7895&cgid= they cost about £7. These lions are an addition to the zoo set but could be used for circus play too.
There are 4 lions a female lion a male lion and 2 identical lion cubs. These lions are made of a golden coloured plastic. The male has a brown mane. The animals all have brown eyes and noses. The male and females jaws are open wide. The heads of all the animals can be moved up and down, where the necks of all the animals join the body they are jointed. The lions all have an elegant golden body and 4 legs. The legs are moveable so that you and your children can make the lions walk. These...

A London Lion
Advantages: lovely footage of lions
Disadvantages: DVD a bit short
...In 1969 two young Australians living in London visited Harrods and amazingly their animal department had a lion cub for sale. They fell in love with the lion who they named Christian and took him home to their flat after paying the equivalent of £3000. The lion had the run of the furniture shop that they ran downstairs, used a huge kitty litter box, drank from the bath and they bundled him into the back seat of the car to take him for exercise in a churchyard or to parties with friends.
Looking after a lion cub was fun but as Christian grew they started to realise that a fully grown lion could not live in a small flat in the city; his appetite was growing and as he became more mature he started to become less submissive towards his owners. A chance meeting with the stars of the film Born Free leads to the idea of releasing him in...

Lions and tigers and....butterflies!
Advantages: lovely story
Disadvantages: none
...I've recently been looking for some slightly longer books to read with my daughter and Michael Morpurgo is an author that I like very much. The latest story of his that we have read is The Butterfly Lion, which is a most heart, warming story going back to the First World War. It is actually a story within a story as it starts in the present and then due to a chance meeting between a small boy and an old lady, goes back in time as she tells him her story!
At the start of the book we meet the teller of the story - a young boy whose name we don't know. He is very unhappy at his boarding school so one Sunday, decides that he has had enough and runs away. However, he has not gone far when he comes across an old rambling house hidden away behind an old brick wall and a huge gateway protected by a stone lion. Before he can move on, he is...

Secondhand Lions
Advantages: Great viewing from start to end
Disadvantages: None
...My husband bought this film and I recuctantly agreed to sit and watch it expecting it to be about lions as the title suggests. I can now say that I was very plesantly suprised by this film and found it to be great and very funny in places.
The cast includes Haley Joel Osment, Robert Duvall and Micheal Caine who all give fantastic performances throughout the film.
We see Walter (Hayley Joel Osment) who is 14 years old taken by his mother to live for the summer with his 2 crazy old great uncles, who are played by Duvall and Caine, The Great Uncles have lots of money and if the rumours are to be believed then they were once bank robbers and thats where the money all come from. We see family members turning up and trying to get their hands on the money and the occasional sales rep calling but all are seen of by a shotgun! The uncles do...

A Toothless Lion
Advantages: Some solid performances.
Disadvantages: It doesn't have a point of view and the direction is pedestrian.
...for approaching a dangerous plateau, featuring cellos, violins and drums and a fire-fight in the dark, which is accompanied by taut strings and echoing drums. In fact most of the noticeable music appears during the storyline about Ernest and Arian. It's as if the other scenes don't carry as much weight for the composer, although there are some warm string motifs when Todd is looking around his tutor's office. Overall it's a score that has a one-track mind.
"Lions for Lambs" is a well-balanced, but ultimately hollow commentary on the US presence in the Middle East that doesn't offer any answers to the big questions it poses. Robert Redford's direction is pedestrian and the writing struggles for deeper meaning, hampered by a lack of character development. I wouldn't pay to see this film, but it might be worth a punt when it's on television. At best it...

The Lion's Den
Advantages: £ star hotel near to town centre
Disadvantages: Oldy worldy, small car park
...Forty years ago as a student at a catering college, I went to work along with several other friends as a waitress at a ball at a prestigious hotel in Shrewsbury. For this I earned the princely sum of £1.00 and a meal! Extortion comes to mind!
Things have moved on and last week I went to the same hotel, now under new management and this time I was waited on, and enjoyed the experience much better.
The Lion hotel is reported as being a 16th century coaching inn, situated at the top of Wyle Cop, a hill leading into the town, just after crossing the English Bridge and it is a Grade I listed building. It is a great situation for exploring the lovely streets with beautiful black and white houses and shops. Shrewsbury is the county town of Shropshire in the West Midlands and is a historic market town.
As you enter from the main road...

The Lion Hotel
Advantages: Good breakfast, fluffy soft towel, location, helpful staff
Disadvantages: Rooms need revamp, rooms hot, beds uncomfortable, slow Wi-Fi, on many levels
...We stayed in the Best Western Lion Hotel for one night on 19th Jan 2008 as we were attending my Aunt & Uncles 50th wedding anniversary party in the nearby Shireoaks Inn. The reason we chose to stay at the Lion was mainly down to its proximity to the Shireoaks (just round the corner) and because we had stayed at Best Westerns in the past and found them to be very agreeable. Also the same day as we got the invite to the party we received an offer from Best Western in the post for up to 50% off stays in January and February. We decided to upgrade to an executive room (wasn't my decision) and this cost us £73 including breakfast instead of £53 for the standard room with the offer. We booked online via the Best Western website.

...Leap Frog Roll & Rhyme Learning Lion
So many people buy you things when you have a baby it is not surprising that so many people are popping out kids left right and centre. My partner works as a restaurant manager for a very large hotel and he often gets guests coming back year after year. Because he has been there fore so many years he has really gotten to know quite a few couple that come away on a regular basis. One couple who are not one of the ones that he knows especially well were really nice and bought little baby Jack this roll & rhyme Learning Lion to play with.
Not only does Jack love it but I do too! I am singing the song all the time now, as it is just too damn catchy! I looked up this particular toy again on Amazon and found it to be such a reasonable price I couldn't believe it! For just under ten pounds...

(Lion) King of Disney
Advantages: Everything is good
Disadvantages: Nothing is bad
...The Lion King is the 1994 offering from Disney, and is widely regarded as the best of the more modern Disney films. It is the highest grossing Disney animation film, and has also produced award winning songs such as 'Can You Feel The Love Tonight'.
The Plot
In the Pride Lands of Africa, the lion is King in the Circle of Life. King Musafa and Queen Sarebi are blessed with a cub, Simba, and this tale follows Simba as he is first led astray by his Uncle Scar, and then a tragedy occurs and the finger of blame is pointed firmly at Simba. Fleeing, Simba finds comfort in the form of Timon, a meerkat, and Pumbaa, a warthog, and relaxes in their company, following the motto of 'hakuna matata' (it means 'no worries'!!!!!), which has become a household phrase over the past decade or so due to the popularity of the film.
Soon, Simba is...
