The Meadows - Edinburgh
Advantages: Nice place to walk or play sports, a good open space in the city
Disadvantages: Can get busy in summer, not a good place to visit in the rain!
...**** What are the meadows? ****
The meadows is basically the name given to a large park on the south side of the centre of Edinburgh. It is a large flat open area of grass and is popular with all age-groups. It extends for approximately 58.4 acres and is less than a mile away from the centre of town.
The meadows backs on to what used to be the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh which was Edinburghs main and oldest hospital. This has now been moved to an area on the outskirts of town and the hospital is undergoing redevelopment as Quartermile a development of upmarket apartments. Some of these will have a wonderful outlook over the meadows.
**** The History of the Meadows ****
The Meadows were originally the site of Borough-Loch which was one of the main water supplies for the Edinburgh?s Old Town. Over the years the Loch...

Fluttering Fluff (The Rainbow Magic series - Daisy Meadows)
Advantages: girly girls will like it, not as bad as some books coming in such collections
Disadvantages: money-spinning emptinesss
...Daisy Meadows is a pen name for a consortium of authors who produce the endless series of "Rainbow Magic" sets of fairy books. All the books bear the rainbow logo. Slightly confusingly, the first set of seven books was about the Rainbow Fairies.
As for now, the franchise covers more than 80 books in sets, each comprising seven books, plus several one-off specials (usually connected with holidays or Christmas. Everything below applies to all the books in all the sets in the whole series, although obviously some books are marginally better or worse than others.
Altogether, it's an admirable entertainment franchise - and a provider of rather vacuous reading material to beginner female readers. There are worse things (don't get me started on the Tiara Club), but there is also many immeasurably better books.

Eagles Meadow - big improvement on Wrexham
Advantages: More choice/variety when shopping, good restaurants, good leisure, things for teenagers to do
Disadvantages: Some people don't like the Meadow, say all shops in Wrexham have moved there and it is now empty
...Eagles Meadow
Eagles Meadow is a £100million shopping and leisure centre in Wrexham which started being built July 2006 and opened up this time last year, in October 2008. I like the shopping and leisure centre and I think it has made a big improvement on the shopping side of Wrexham; it has made Wrexham go up twenty six places in the UK's best shopping towns for a start.
For Eagles Meadow's first, one year anniversary I thought I might write a review on it, as there aren't any on this site yet. So, here it is...
Shops
The shops in Eagles Meadow are all good quality high street shops, or I think they are anyway. As you walk across the bridge at the back of the shopping centre, the first shops you come across are Greggs bakery, Starbucks coffee shop and Millets outdoor shop (which always has some really good sales on...

Blackburn Meadows Nature Reserve
Advantages: A Haven For Wildlife, Educational For Local Schoolchildren
Disadvantages: Industrial Location, Some Vandalism
...Anyone who drives up or down the M1 Motorway between Leeds and Nottingham regularly will probably be familiar with what is referred to locally as the Tinsley Viaduct, close to Junction 33 near to the Meadowhall Shopping Complex. This Viaduct is notorious for its traffic congestion, even outside peak times but it was a necessary construction to raise the Motorway over a steep Valley. Directly adjacent to the Viaduct it is impossible to miss two large cooling towers, which have become a local landmark over the years. Few people however will give a thought as to what lies beneath this Viaduct on the land at the opposite side of the Motorway to the Meadowhall Shopping Centre. This is an area known as Blackburn Meadows.
The name Blackburn Meadows conjures up an image of lovely green pastureland but unfortunately this could not be further...

Amber the Orange Fairy - Daisy Meadows
Advantages: Magical Storyline, Lovely pictures, easy to read
Disadvantages: Flimsy paperback publication and is part of a series
...All the books in the rainbow fairies series are aimed at a reading target group of girls aged 4-8 years old. This is about preschool to year 3 when they are just getting to know the basic structure of sentences and learning to recognise the longer words. These books are really great for any glitter girls to encourage them to read as the storyline and the appearance of the shiny cover motivates them to pick up the book and explore the pages.
I shall be reviewing this second book in the series: Amber the orange fairy.

Ruby the Red Fairy - by Daisy Meadows
Advantages: Filled with pictures on everypage, lovely story & characters
Disadvantages: one in a series, and is a paperback
...Thanks to Hannah my niece, we have the entire colection of rainbow fairies books, the first in the series is this one. A story all about Ruby the red fairy.

Cover:
As with all in this range, it's another horid paperback, bends easily, shows creaes, doesn't wipe down easily and the corners start to fray. If you chose to strenghten your book one can suggest some to prolong a 'new' look and to help prevent frayed and upturned corners.
Full colour fairy illustrations, and adorned with red foil sparkle, it appeals to the little girls whilst catching the light in book stores.

Fern the Green Fairy - Daisy Meadows Paperback

FORMAT: Paperback

Fourth book in the Rainbow Magic series, fern the green fairy. Kirsty and Rachels collection of fairies is growing and as the numbers increase so so the number of problems they are encountering. This installment is no disappointment, the adventure continues as yet another delightful fairy is added to the characters list.
Cover:
Argh, horrid paperback which soon creases and looks extremely tatty - making one wish I had invested in some sticky back plastic so I don't feel all grubby when I pick the manky things up and put them back in the bookshelf.
Story:
Rainbow magic series tells the tales of Fairyland which is home to seven colorful sisters. Together, they are the Rainbow Fairies...

Ancient Meadows with Archaic Rules
Advantages: A pleasant place to stroll near the river in the centre of Oxford.
Disadvantages: Its not particularly interesting.
...Christ Church Meadow is one of the two green spaces near the centre of Oxford open to the public, the other being the Parks: the University owns both.
In all honesty neither are what you would call tourist attractions and the only reason I am writing about it at all is because Ciao have listed it under gardens to visit. However, if you are visiting Oxford it provides a pleasant escape from the traffic and bustle of the city centre, perhaps for a picnic lunch, and an alternative route from St. Aldates to High St or vice versa,
There are several entrances to Christ Church Meadows: from St. Aldates through the war memorial garden with its colourful herbaceous border, from cobbled Merton St., or from the top of High St., opposite Magdalen college via Rose Lane.
Whichever entrance you choose you will be greeted by a set of rules...
