...So Christmas is now here and along with it come out loads of mini spin off films from the big blockbusters. DreamWorks have just brought out the latest in a line of Madagascar films called Merry Madagascar and as normal, it follows Marty and Gang in their quest to try to make it back to New York in time for Christmas. Alex, Marty, Melman and Gloria are attempting to escape from the Island of Madagascar to their home of New York in a hot air balloon when their balloon is attacked by King Julian and the rest of the Lemurs with fire arrows and crashes back down onto the island. When Alex and the gang question King Julian he tells that it is the 24th Julianary and the Marauding Red Goblin always flies over the island and throws rocks down on them so this year it is their aim to knock the Marauding Red Goblin out of the sky...

Black Widow - Jessie Keane

Advantages: She is much better than Martina Cole
Disadvantages: It had to end

...Black Widow - Jessie Keane This is my first Jessie Keane read and it certainly won't be my last. Black widow is the second book in a trilogy, but it can easily be read as a standalone as the reader is told briefly of the history between characters. Black Widow is based around Annie Carter wife of Max, the head of the Carter Clan. Annie, Max and there 4 year old daughter Layla are living in 1970s Majorca when there is a hit on them, leaving Annie alone at the house and Max and Layla gone. In a fight to save her family Annie travels to London to rescue them anyway she can. This was a well written book with twists and turns at every corner, it will certainly keep you entertained. Review of Black Widow - Jessie Keane

Oh what tangled webs some weave - The Black Widow

Advantages: Excellent acting and suspence.
Disadvantages: Check for sub-title availablity. The end of the story lets it down.

...Black Widow (after the spider) was a film that fit perfectly into the suspense/crime/thriller genre, released in 1987 and starring Theresa Russell (appearances on Law and Order and American Heiress) as the Spider and Debra Winger (An Officer and a Gentleman, Leap of Faith) as the federal agent from the Justice Department who is on her tail. The cast also included other notable actors such as Dennis Hopper and Terry O'Quinn. The original film was 102 minutes long but was edited to 97 minutes for the DVD, which is a no frills affair but with the amount of plot going on in this story, a few re-runs might be needed to understand everything and spot things that were easily missed before. The classification is 15 but for parents it might be more suitable for 16 if not 18, especially since it's usually shown long after the watershed...

How to Talk to a Widower

Advantages: Sympathetic characters, interesting premise, both funny and touching
Disadvantages: None, I thought it was excellent

...Judging by the title "How To Talk to a Widower" it is easy to imagine that this would be depressing read. It just goes to show that you really can't judge a book by its cover. The book (written by Jonathan Tropper) was a great read, yes, it has some depressing moments (as in life) but ultimately the central character finds a way to work through his problems. Doug, who had been married to a woman ten years younger than him, is suddenly widowed. Twelve months after his wife dies, he is struggling to cope. Drowning in a sea of booze and self-pity he feels his life will never be the same again. In this, he is correct. His life will never be the same again. He cannot have his old life back and so this book charts his attempts to come to terms with the tragedy of his wife's unexpected demise and move forward with his life...

Disadvantages: Absolutely none

...Every so often I like to change from my normal reading style. I'm generally a spy/action/thriller kind of guy, but a few years ago on holiday when I had run out of my pile of books, I moved onto my partners. My love of the occasional 'chick read' had begun! I since discovered that there is another style of book that is fine for both men and women to read - Mike Gayle, Nick Hornby etc. and so have expanded my reading range enormously and added a huge amount of enjoyment to my reading routine. I picked up 'How to talk to a widower' by Jonathan Tropper at WH Smiths in Manchester airport. Part of 3 books I bought (I only ever buy a book with an offer and 3 for 2 is about the best that you can expect at the airport!) The other 2 books I have forgotten immediately, but this is a real stand out novel that I would recommend everybody...

Merry Hill is heaven for shoppers

Advantages: lots of shops, good security,parking,food
Disadvantages: the centre is full with people at Christmas and it is hard to get a parking space.

...Merry Hill shopping centre (Brierly Hill in West Midlands) is a must for everybody that likes shopping! It has all the shops you could possibly desire under one roof, ranging from department stores ( Marks and Spencers , Debenhams,BHS) to supermarkets, clothes shops,health stores you name it it will have it! Shops are clearly signposted and there are maps located around the centre. There are many security guards around, so no need to worry about pick pocketing. For parents Merry Hill has a creche called Snappers, It looks really enticing from the outside with ball pits, slides and climbing frames. Parking at Merry Hill is free and the centre has electronic signs telling you if there are spaces in the car parks, which i find very helpful. There are also spaces for the disabled and designated areas for people with young children who...

Merry or not?

Advantages: Raucous comedy featuring Falstaff once again
Disadvantages: Some impenetrable scenes

...Shakespeare is one the greatest playwrights of our time, but that doesn?t mean that all his plays are great does it? I was privileged to see this play live last summer, privileged, as it is not often played in this country. I enjoyed it immensely. I do feel, however, that it is a play to be seen. I have read it and found the opening scene not only linguistically impenetrable at first but also, sorry to say, deadly boring. It does gain momentum as the plot wind in, but at first you simple wonder WHY? It is said that Elizabeth the first commissioned this play after her dismay at Falstaff?s demise in Henry V. She asked that he feature in his own play and it be about love ? so The Merry Wives of Windsor was born. The play centres around two families, the Pages and the Fords. Shoppers Paradise

...Every year it is inevitable that I will visit Merry Hill at least ten times because me and my Mom especially love it there. It is basically a massive shopping centre which is indoors so you don't have to worry about rain and you can spend hours looking around although it never seems busy for some reason. We choose Merry Hill every year for us to do our January sales shop too because there is so much on offer. Let me tell you why I love it so much! Ok so where is it? Merry Hill Shopping Centre Brierley Hill West Midlands DY5 1QX Now to get there by car from where my parents live is easy because we can just go to Dudley and follow the signs from there. By motorway if you do get to the Walsall junctions and head towards Dudley you will find it. Merry Hill is signposted for miles away from where it is so you can't miss it...
