A Beautiful Traditional Greek Mill
Advantages: Fantastic Situation, old world charm and good food
Disadvantages: A Bit off the Beaten Track - will neeed a car
...We came across this hotel quite by accident. It was while we were heading for the village of Troodos and decided that it was time to stop as the evening was closing in and we hadn't found any suitable accommodation. The road left would have taken us into Troodos but we took the right turning to Kyperounda and followed the hilly road down the mountain. If you take the left turn at the bridge you will enter the village of Kakopetria. This is where the Mill Hotel is situated and what an unusual sight it is.
Built into the mountain this building is an awesome sight when looking up to the top floor. The building has been renovated as originally the old Mill stopped working in the 1950's as milling became expensive and imported flour became available. This led to the mill closing down and eventually it fell into disrepair until it was bought...

Run of the Mill? A bit disappointing
Advantages: Nice room
Disadvantages: Nasty food
...I stayed at the Mill House recently and was simultaneously impressed and depressed by what I found. I liked my room, which was exceptionally pretty and I liked the setting but the food was poor, the service 'patchy' and the public areas just a bit too much like a 1980s country pub with no customers.
Location
The hotel is in the tiny village of Ashington, about ten miles north of Worthing and just off the A24. If you don't know it's there, you'll struggle to find it as it's located down a pot-holed track off a poorly sign-posted side-road to the dual carriageway. Luckily someone led me to the right road as I think it would have been very easy to miss.
First Impressions
First impressions were that it looked very pretty, rural and twee but on closer inspection the rather verdant gardens were a bit too overgrown - beyond...

Boundary Mill
Advantages: Excellent range of goods and clothing
Disadvantages: not enough for the younger shopper
...General Information
-----------------------
Boundary Mill, is an out let store selling men's and ladies wear for a reduced price compared to shop prices. There are many of these outlet stores around the UK.Boundary Mill has several outlet stores, in Newcastle, Colne, Walsall and Grantham. I visited the Walsall store as it is the closest one to me. It opened 1st November 2003 and it's the newest store.
How to get there
------------------
Boundary Mill, Wasall is located just off Junction 10 of the M6. It is on the Black Country Route. As you come off the motorway turn left at the traffic lights and follow the AA signs to the store. It is very easy to find and is located in an industrial estate.
There is plenty of car parking, and we managed to find a space even on a Saturday.

The Mill Inn - - the inn on the canal
Advantages: Lovely location, comfortable and friendly
Disadvantages: None that I can see
...The Mill Inn was converted from an old grain mill in 1992 into a 15 bedroom hotel, set in its own intensive grounds - it was then known as Thurnham Mill. Last year it had a major refurbishment and its name was changed to The Mill Inn.
The Mill Inn is part of the Mitchells chain.
Mitchells of La ncaster Istarted in 1871, William Mitchell signed the lease on his very first pub and brewhouse - The Black Horse Inn, in Lancaster. Now Mitchell's of Lancaster is still family owned and the group consists of sixty pubs and five hotels, covering the city, coast and countryside of North Lancashire and South Cumbria.
The Mill Inn was converted from an old grain mill in 1992 into a superb 15 bedroom well-appointed hotel, set in its own igardens, and has recently undergone a major refurbishment.
The Mill Inn is on the very edge...

Certainly not a 'run of the mill' hotel
Advantages: A lovely and unusual place to stay
Disadvantages: Doesn't quite pull it off all the time
...I had never stayed in a castle before so was really looking forward to this experience. I wasn't disappointed.
If you like to stay somewhere out of the ordinary, then Lumley Castle is certainly worth a visit.
It is situated very close to the A1 in Chester-le-Street in Co Durham. I say close, but you wouldn't know it was anywhere but in the middlie of the country. The approach to the castle is long, impressive and winding, and climbs up a hill. There is a cark park for guests just outside the caslte wall, and also some spaces in the courtyard. The reception is not well marked from the car park, but to be honest there isn't anywhere else you could go, so that doesn't really matter.
The Hotel is a conversion of the castle and it's outbuildings, which surround the courtyard. There is a pleasant garden and seating in...

Stainsby Mill, Derbyshire
Advantages: Lots of history
Disadvantages: Admission charges
...Stainsby Mill enjoys a location within the idyllic setting of the small village of Doe Lea in North Derbyshire. It's very close to junction 29 of the M1 motorway but with its rural location you could be easy to think that you were miles away from anyway.
This is a rare example of a 19th century water powered flour mill. It is now owned and managed by The National Trust but what makes this place especially unusual is that it is still in everyday use and the end product of bags of flour are still commercially sold.
I had previously visited Caudwell's Mill in Rowsley, Derbyshire which is about twenty miles from here and I was expecting to find quite a few similarities. Both of these flour mills are still operated by a water wheel, they both still produce flour but the similarities seem to end there. Whilst Caudwell's Mill uses...

Quarry Bank Mill
Advantages: Interesting and educational
Disadvantages: none
...Brief history?.
Quarry bank mill has one of the only working water mill left in Britain.
It is situated in the beautiful village of Styal, on the banks of the River Bollin
The Mill was built by Samuel Greg in 1784, with the giant metal water wheel being built between 1816 and 1820.
The original wheel broke in 1904 and was replaced years later by another iron wheel to make the Mill the proud owner of the last remaining working water wheel in Europe.
The mill was used for the 'spinning' of cotton (and is still used for that purpose today but more for visitors to see rather than commercial use), it was soon the largest cotton producing factory in its time.
Weaving was introduced to the Mill in 1834 by Robert Greg, (son of Samuel), so as to keep up with the revolution.
Samual Greg was an unusually kind employer for the time...

♫ Get on down to Trago Mills ♫
Advantages: cheap, affordable products
Disadvantages: price stickers leave a mark, and you have to pay extra for carrier bags
...TRAGO MILLS - "More than you bargain for"
-----------------------------------------------------------
Mum: I think we should maybe decorate the bathroom next?
Dad: Yes OK then would you like to pop down to Trago at the weekend?
Mum: Yeah that sounds good
Little Fluffy: Can we have some toys?
Sister: Can we have some sweets?
Mum and Dad: No, we are going to look at a new bathroom suit.
Little Fluffy + Sister: *sulks*
Little Fluffy: Can we feed the ducks?
Mum: Yeah if we have time
Sister: Can we have some toys?
Mum and Dad: No
Every trip to Trago resulted in an exciting flurry of questions. I loved Trago when we had a few pounds to spend on pens, pencils, pocket toys and sweets. We could get so much more for our money compared to most high street stores.
On our way down the A38 we couldn't help but sing the ditty "Trago...

Trago Mills - Everything Under One Roof
Advantages: Lots of choice, Low Prices
Disadvantages: Unsophisticated shopping, confusing layout
...If you happen to live in South Devon or East Cornwall, Trago Mills is one of the things that you sort of know about instinctively. Like how to crimp a pasty or what to look for to avoid being shot at on one of the live firing ranges on Dartmoor. To the rest of the country it seems to be a bit of a mystery, so I shall endeavour to explain it to the uninitiated.
Trago Mills is a big warehouse where lots of things are sold very cheaply.
And there you have it. Not enough detail? Oh all right then.....
I believe there are currently three Trago Mills outlets. One at Newton Abbot in South Devon, one at Liskeard in East Cornwall and one at Falmouth, further down towards the pointy bit in Cornwall. They are beginning to build a new one - not in a south west catchment area like the others, but in Merthyr Tydfil. Go figure...

A "nice" hotel charging "fantastic" prices
Advantages: The view and location, grass tennis court, fresh breakfast juice
Disadvantages: The price! Walk to beach, bad grammar
...We booked last minute which was a simple process of a phone call.
We chose the hotel based on its location in the main, but from the website it seemed to have everything we wanted; tennis, swimming pool, pitch and put, sauna, and more.
My only reservation was the price; it was around £1,100 for four nights, dinner and B&B for two in a standard room.
When we got there we the view didn?t disappoint. The hotel is just ten minutes from a secluded cove and all in gorgeous National Trust grounds. A warning though, if you?re not that fit then it would be a struggle to get up and down to the beach with everything you need each day.
There were also nice walks around the area and some lovely towns within driving distance.
Another particularly nice aspect of the hotel was the tennis court. I was surprised it was a grass court but...
