...The Missing Scarecrow is a lovely little book which accompanies the children's television show, Balamory. The front cover of the book is green and has a picture of Edie and a scarecrow with the name Balamory in bright colourful bubble lettering above this and the title of the book is white lettering below. At the top of the cover there is a picture showing some of the house is Balamory. The back cover of the book is also green, with a square in a lighter green colour which has a few lines of balloons at the top and a bit about the story inside. ...I recently signed up to one of these sites where you can get DVD's sent to you in the post. Perfect as now I don't even need to leave the home to get new DVD's to watch! This time I got send Miss Potter. I had put this on my list as I was a fan of her books as a child. My sister had the whole little box set and I loved the stories. She also lived in later life in Windermere in the Lake District, which I have spent some time at as a child as my family lives very near the Lake District. This provided some more interest for me. The film was released in 2006 and has been available on DVD for a while now. The story of Miss Potter is based around Beatrix Potter herself who is played by Renee Zellweger. ...Miss Potter is a film not about a relation of that famous boy with the scar on his forehead and a magical wand but the famous best-selling author Beatrix Potter whose beautiful children?s books have lasted the test of time. I missed this film at the cinema so when it was released to DVD 2 weeks ago it was top of my list to rent. ...Little Miss Sunshine is a bit of a different film to the type that I enjoy watching but none the less it is one of my favourites. It first came out in the cinemas in 2006, so is a couple of years old now. Little Miss Sunshine is about an American family. They are not the perfect family that is normally depicted in films though, they are a bit rough round the edges. The dad Richard (Greg Kinnear) is a life coach who is trying his hardest to become a successful business man but failing. ...'Miss Potter' was never a film I really wanted to see at the cinema so didn't bother. However, having been given the DVD as a Christmas present, I was very happy to slouch on the sofa with a glass of wine and the last few Christmas chocolates and watch it - and I was very glad I did as 'Miss Potter' is a thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining film! ...I would assume that most people are familiar with the name Beatrix Potter, the best selling writer of children's books, and the creator of such timeless characters as Peter Rabbit and Jemima Puddleduck, but I wonder just how people knew much about the life of the woman behind these stories before the release of this film, Miss Potter in 2006. Miss Potter was never a film that I ever had any intentions of seeing. I do recall its run at the cinema but it was never anything that I heard any feedback about and it certainly never aroused any interest in me to want to go and see it. I have however now watched the film on DVD and I was actually very surprised to find that I enjoyed it. The film begins in 1905 when Beatrix is 32 years old. Her Colleague played by Benjamin Bratt who is the head of the FBI team is shocked by the transformation as Gracie actually looks so different to her normal FBI Agent attire. Through out the film the attraction between them grows. Michael Caine after the transformation needs to teach Gracie to walk elegantly, to have a talent to show in the contest, to eat like a lady and also to perfect a speech to give at the pageant, which as all speeches ends in world peace, whilst living a healthy life style, which I think is one of the best parts of the film as she tries to smuggle donuts in her dress. ...The Western once such a popular genre for movies has declined in popularity since it's heyday in the 50's, it briefly was reinvented in the sixties as the Spaghetti Western and although it maintained a presence in the mainstream in the 70's it was effectively killed off by the sci-fi movies from Star Wars and beyond.
