...In 1999, Stephen Sommers wrote and directed the smash hit "The Mummy", starring Brendon Frazer, Rachel Weisz and Arnold Vosloo as the Mummy. I was a big fan of the first Mummy film, and thought the 2nd one simply lost the plot. The first film had everything one would want from a film of this type, humour, action, special effects, romance and a little terror. The film was a huge box office hit grossing well over $415 million, and lead to a sequel and a third film penned to be released some time next year. I am usually always a huge fan of these films, they have a lot of history plot, treasure and some gorgeous looking women, what more can you ask for.
The Plot:
The film starts of with a flashback into the Ancient Egyptian world. The year is 1290 BC; the high priest of Egypt Imhotep is having a secret affair with the Pharaohs...

Review of The Mummy (DVD)
Advantages: Classic film, great make up, Boris Karloff Disadvantages: Rather short
...I have recently been enjoying collecting and watching the old Universal horror films. One of these was The Mummy from 1932, starring Boris Karloff as the monster of the title. I loved Karloff as Frankenstein?s monster and looked forward to seeing him in another role.
The Mummy is set against the background of Egyptian history. The movie begins in 1921 as the British Expedition?s archaeology team has just dug up two rare finds - a mysterious box and a Mummy. The team is headed by Sir Joseph Whemple (Arthur Byron) who is accompanied by Dr Muller (Edward Van Sloan) and a younger man.
The inscription on the box warns of death to anyone who opens the casket, but when he is alone, the young man decides to risk it. Inside is the Scroll of Thoth, which he begins to decipher. As he does so, the Mummy begins to awaken ? in what must be...

Review of The Mummy (DVD)
...?Death, eternal punishment, for anyone who opens this casket,? declares the curse. One minute later the Oxford educated brain is acting like a child on Christmas morning and has ripped it open. Cue: death, eternal punishment and another great Universal Pictures? horror movie?well, sadly no.
The Mummy was disappointing and so slow that you could see the actors decomposing on screen. My criticism does not stem from watching the hi-octane contemporary blockbusters, but experience with other great horror flicks from the same studio, such as The Invisible Man.
The tagline ?It comes to life!? doesn?t quite go far enough. Yes, it comes to life but then disappears somewhere, never explained, for ten years. The anecdotes of Boris Karloff, star of Frankenstein, undergoing make-up for eight hours under the expertise of make-up artist Jack Pierce...

... TELL ME WHY MUMMY
DAVID THOMAS
This was one of my penny buys from Amazon that I added to another order so I didn't need to pay postage!!
What a pennyworth I got!!!
The book, written by David Thomas from Halifax in Yorkshire, is based on his harrowing true story and how he was sexually and mentally abused by his mother and physically abused by his stepfather.
The author says that this this is a book about forgiveness but it is also a story of survival.
THE STORY
The story starts with David at the tender age of 4 and the book records his struggle to survive well into his late 20's and 30s.
Little David had two Mummies.
He had a Light Mummy and a Dark Mummy.
As a little boy David didn't have much, what he did have tended to be hand me down. His Daddy didn't have any time for him, but...
Advantages: Good CGI, lots of action scene! Disadvantages: Too many to mention!
...Released this year, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is the third installment in The Mummy series of movies. The movie is directed by Rob Cohen, who also directed such films as The Fast and the Furious and XXX. The movie stars Brendan Fraser and John Hannah, as in the first two movies, and also Maria Bello, who replaces Rachel Weisz, and kung-fu legend Jet Li.
Alex O'Connell (Luke Ford) has followed in his father's footsteps to become a leading archeaologist. Alex uncovers the tomb and remains of the Ruthless Emperor Han (Jet Li) in China, who centuries before had been turned to stone, along with his 10,000 strong terra cotta army, by sorceress Zi Juan (Michelle Yeoh), for betraying her and killing her loved one. Emperor Han is awoken from his 2,000 old curse as a mummy, and sets about finding the source of eternal life and plans...
Advantages: Fun, exciting, funny, romantic, generally a good film Disadvantages: See review
...The Mummy for me became a hit from the time it was showing in cinemas, which is also where I first saw it. I've seen it since, couple of times on television. Truth is, in the last few months or so, I saw the latest movie to be released, which is the third of the series that the Mummy has become. I started recently to write a review on that movie, then realised I should probably review the first two, first. I can never remember enough of films I saw years back to review them from memory. So when The Mummy came on television, I took the chance to review it.
Story
Evelyn Carnahan (Rachel Weisz) is a clumsy librarian. When her brother, Jonathon opens up an ancient Egyptian tomb from the library and discovers an unusual, star shaped item inside it, the two of them decide to investigate. They are introduced to Rick O...

Review of The Mummy (DVD)
Advantages: excellent read Disadvantages: extermely vivid and upsetting
...the local charity shop was a book called Mummy Knew by Author Lisa James. I bought this book as the blurb on the back of it appealed to me and it was a true story and I prefer reading these kinds of books. The author of the book Lisa James is an author whom I?ve never heard of before which is not surprising as this is her first book and it had only been released in September 2009 and I bought it from the Cancer Research Shop in Mid-October.
The copy of Mummy Knew ? Lisa James which I bought was a Paper Back Edition which was in excellent condition considering it was second hand from the Charity Shop. The front cover is mainly white in colour and features a small fair haired girl around the age of six or seven. As with all books the authors name and title of the book are boldly printed on the front cover ? where as the back cover contains...
Advantages: Family fun Disadvantages: Very farfetched
...good a job as Weisz, she makes a passable attempt at playing the character of Evie.
Back to the film as a whole, I?ve read a few reviews that are less than complimentary about the film, but I really enjoyed it. Alright it is farfetched, the yetis are a jump the shark moment, but it?s still great entertainment. None of the Mummy films have ever taken themselves seriously, and this one is no different, but then you wouldn?t pick up a Mummy film if you wanted intellectual stimulation.
As I said the storyline was farfetched, but it was also very interesting, and in a way a little educational. Well it was for my son, who was fascinated by the Terracotta Army, and immediately jumped on the computer when we got home to find out more, something he?s never done before. I like the way there?s a little bit of continuity from the previous films...
Advantages: Bright illustrations and popular characters. Disadvantages: Possibly a little too in-depth for under 3s, depending on ability!
...owner, Meg bandages Mog up so that nothing can be seen other than his tail and leaves him there while she goes off to find help.
Meanwhile?. A head pops around a door and wonders why the cat 'mummy' is there and swiftly grabs a puzzled Mog in through the doorway.
On her return, Meg is quite clearly horrified that Mog has gone and peers through the door thus beginning her search for her faithful animal companion.
Meg meets up with an Egyptian guide and keeps asking if he has seen her cat. Quite clearly, unable to understand English very well, the guide gives lots of tourist-like information relating to the exhibits within the pyramid, e.g.Ptolemy, all of the cat mummy's that are 3000 years old etc and this is where Meg finds Mog, thanks to his tail being on show.
She grabs him and they make a dash to make a spell to get back home...
