...This film stars Eddie Murphy and Janet Jackson. It's the sequel to the Nutty Professor and both films are available in a double pack video. I was looking forward to great things from this film, especially the fact that Eddie is playing all the parts in the Klump family again but I was sadly disappointed. The sound on the film is atrocious and I can't believe nobody who worked on the film pointed this out. I thought it may be the tape itself but having discussed it with other people, it seems I wasn't the only one to find the dialogue incomprehensible. I've also read a review saying the same thing. I'm relieved there's nothing wrong with my hearing! Anyway, what is the plot? In this sequel, Murphy makes the Klump family into the major characters. Advantages: Easy to watch, quite funny

...I quite liked this film. In places it was funny, but some of the humour could be juvenile. The main star of the film is Eddie Murphy. He plays the main character Sherman Klump. Also he plays his mum, dad and brother. Cunfusing, but he acts all the part out well. Sherman Klump is a professor of Biology. He eats a lot and is very big. A new Chemistry tutor arrives in the workplace called Carla Purty ( Jada Pinkett). Sherman falls in love with her, but thinks nothing will happen because of his weight. He is working on a potion for a hamster to realign it's molecular structure. So this will make the overweight hamster slim! He gets a date with Carla and they go to a club. ...Nutty Professor II: The Klumps does have a plot. It has a premise. And it even has a heart. But all three qualities serve only to set the stage for never-ending fart gags and sex jokes. Here Eddie Murphy reprises his role as Sherman Klump, an overweight genius professor, and his slim and obnoxious alter ego, Buddy Love. The very first scene shows Buddy’s head emerging from Sherman’s unzipped fly after Sherman becomes aroused during a dream sequence. Unfortunately, he never goes away. ...Eddie Murphy has always been a pretty individual case, almost singlehandedly creating the motormouth, wisecracking black cool dude, although he needed to lift an awfully large chunk of that muse from the act of Richard Pryor. He has had some pretty wonderful vehicles for his talents, in such movies as Trading Places and Beverly Hills Cop, but in recent times he seems to have totally abandoned any pretence to taste, refinement or reserve. Dr Dolittle 1 and 2 were bad enough, The Nutty Professor was pretty base, but with Nutty Professor II: The Klumps he has plumbed completely new depths, stretching the genre probably as far as it can go and in the process degenerating into a frightful mess - in short he's lost it... ...It took a few years to follow up the 1996 original 'The nutty professor' but they have finally got around to doing it - how did they do? Not very well. This could be for several different reasons. Maybe it's because the first was so funny that it would take a blinding sequal to match up to it. Maybe it's the storyline - the Klumps has a very forgettable storyline (which i will explain in full) and when you're halfway through the film you have to remind yourself what is going on. Or it could be the Klumps themselves. In the first film they had small parts which were very funny - but they were small parts. This film, as the title suggests, is all about the Klump family and to be honest half the time i couldn't make out what the were saying or understand the jokes which probably spoilt the film for me. ...The Nutty Professor 2 Features Eddy Murphy playing all 8 members of his rather corpulent family. For those of you who haven't seen the first movie the story is basically this: Eddy Murphy plays an obesely overweight college professor (through some excellent special effects) who desperately wants to lose weight. Hence he invents a potion which does this, but also turns him into an obnoxious womaniser by the name of Buddy Love. Buddy is the professor's alter-ego and wreaks havoc whenever he uses the potion. In this the second movie, Buddy Love has escaped from the potion bottle, due to an accident with a dog-hair...Buddy was extracted from the professor using a machine and the resultant gloop left in a beaker. ...Buddy and The Professor, and who will ultimately triumph in winning her and control over the rapidly altering body they both dwell in. Okay, so it's not the funniest film when reviewed over it's entirity, but there are some truly marvellous moments when Eddie Murphy gets to act as the whole of the Klump family's major players, ie Mum, Dad, Grandma etc, and especially Grandma. If you do the very unfair thing of comparing the two films, then I know who I think produced the better version. For me the original is the best. In that, the lovable professor is a dork as opposed to someone that immediately plays on the heartstrings because he has a weight issue. I prefer the buck-teethed, bumbling idiot who is bereft of rhythm purely because I find it a funnier representation of a nutty bloke, than Murphy's more hip version. Having said that... Read review

This was about the only thing left in the video store last night (Saturday night) that I hadn’t already seen. Oh also, I wanted to see it because Janet Jackson stars, and I’m a big fan of the Jackson family. Background. As you probably know, this is the sequel to the hugely-successful “The Nutty Professor” in which Eddie Murphy played “Professor Sherman Klump” a lovably, but very fat professor who invents a formula to make himself slim with hilarious consequences.
