...BACKGROUND When Hubby and I married in 1972 everyone, including ourselves used to call us the Odd couple. My husband was extremely untidy, liked to slob around and preferred to live in a very casual manner. On the other hand I was very house proud, liked to be neat and tidy and could not abide clutter. Thankfully over the years we have mellowed towards each other but it has taken time. The reference to us as The Odd Couple was as a comparison to the characters in a popular American situation comedy series and film of the times. However I have to say that neither of us was quite as bad as Oscar and Felix. This Odd Couple originated from a very successful Broadway play which was written by Neil Simon and on the stage in 1965. Must be in the Top 10 Comedies of all time

Advantages: A classic pairing of two classic actors
Disadvantages: I`m sure there are a few for you nit-pickers out there.

...Several weeks ago I noticed that "ciao" were asking if anyone had seen Jurassic Park 3 and invited opinions of it from them.Unfortunately,this is the only film I have watched at the cinema for over a year and whilst I was watching it I could not help but compare it to another film that I`d just watched that afternoon on the BBC .I cannot see this one staying the distance unlike the classic that I had only just viewed. All Hail The Odd Couple

Advantages: Great songs, vocals from both leads, arrangements and feel

...On paper, the pairing of Zepplin frontman Robert Plant and folk country singer Alison Krauss appears to be an odd one akin to Kylie and Nick Cave (well, actually, no pairing will ever be that odd). Released at the tail end of 2007 this album was greeted with justified critical acclaim and 6 Grammies for it's troubles including album of the year, contemporary American/ Folk album of the year and record of the year for the song 'Please Read The Letter'. This is testament to what in my opinion is a definitive contemporary folk/ country record and for anyone looking for an entry point into the genre, the best place to start. What makes this work is that the unlikely pairing actually works very well together. This is all very laid-back stuff. Couples Retreat: a total carcrash of a movie.

...I watch 50-60 films a year, not counting TV and DVD, and I haven?t seen a worse film than this in the past 5 years. I shared a cinema with 19 other people and there wasn?t a single laugh. The characters were all stereotypes and caricatures; the script was so clunky you could hear the punctuation marks; the editing was done-with-a-penknife clumsy; the film was shot in glaring, garish colour that hurt the eyes; and, yes, there was even a repellent small child ? the kind that you could only find in American films. The whole premise of the film and storyline are unbelievable, and you just hate all the people in it. The plot revolves around Jason Bateman?s character and wife having a hard time conceiving so that want to go to an island retreat to re-bond, but it?s so expensive they can only afford to go if three other couples go...

An "Odd" But Brilliant Read

...about to hit the town. I found this book very hard to put down once I started reading it. I must admit after the first couple of chapters I was a bit dubious as to whether or not this book was for me. I found it very unusual at first with Odd talking to the spirits, but gradually I became addicted to this book. I really grew to love the character of Odd Thomas, a very strong character who always wanted the very best for everyone close to him, a very caring character. A great page turning story that had me on the edge of my seat. A truly unusual but very well written thriller with good twists and an excellent climax. This book is the first instalment in a series of four books about Odd Thomas. It was first published in 2004. Book 2 is called Forever Odd, Book 3 is called Brother Odd and Book 4 is called Odd Hours. I can't wait...

Thrice Odd

Advantages: its better than the second

...Apologys people but here comes another book review. Dean Koontz is a rather prolific writer it seems that everytime I go to the supermarket unaccompanied while on my tours of the toy and book aisles one of his latests works tries to throw itself in to my basket along with the lego sets and Spongbob DVD's. On my latest trip it was this the third of the books featuring Odd Thomas which made its way in to the basket. Odd Thomas for anyone unfamiliar with him is a young fry cook from Pico Mundo, a desert town which has no real distinguishing features other than the massacre at a shopping mall some time ago, and that it is Odds home town. Odd on the other hand is much stranger, well not personally but he see's ghosts, and believes that they come to him for help to pass over after whatever it is that troubles them is sorted out. ...I will begin this review by telling you why most of the specific criteria are rated average rather than good or excellent as once they may have been rated higher. Perhaps an unusual way of beginning this review, usually it would be explained in the summery, yet I felt that it needed to be explained first as I don?t want you to look at the specific ratings and turn away from the farm because is IS a good farm though it is lacking certain qualities which I have now found in other farm parks in and around the area. ...characters who are well cast and brilliantly played - see Baldwin and Seymour Hoffman. ***What?s wrong with it?*** While Aniston is good at playing Polly, adventurous salsa dancing, ferret loving chic, her performance doesn?t outweigh her previous praised role in The Good Girl. Ben Stiller, as Greg Fokker in Meet the Parents was hilarious but here the same old role is a little tiresome. This film really needed more of Baldwin, he cracked me up as Reuben's eccentric boss Stan. Ultimately, Polly and Reuben are hopelessly incompatible, there's no chemistry or common interest, bringing credibility to these two opposites falling in love. I wasn?t convinced that Polly would even go out with him let alone fall in love with him! When I watch a romantic comedy I have to believe in the couple, and that means lovely-duvvy, sparkling chemistry...
