Ok, so it would seem that a quarter of the magazine is taken up with advertising, and yes it is, but if you compare New Woman to the likes of Elle magazine (which virtually has an advert every other page), you’ll see that it is not that bad, especially for the money you pay. FASHION Fashion plays quite a big role in New Woman. They tend to have a whole section (8 pages or so) dedicated to certain trends for under a certain amount. For example 100 best buys of this season for under a £100. In this they tend to have a page for tops/jumpers/shirts, a page for accessories, a page for shoes/sandals/boots, a page for coats/jackets etc. Personally I find this quite a good section because they don’t tend to show the clothes on unrealistically perfect size 6/8 models (I apologise... ...in someone’s hand is shown and then a picture of a key in a lock. The next image shows a little girl, candle in hand, being ordered somewhere by a woman which we assume is her mother. Possibly an overbearing mother who is highly strung? The pictures continue as we are shown a shadowy figure and a hand playing with a puppet on strings and finally a large secluded house on a hill, which is reflected in the lake in front of it. The music stops as this hand drawn picture turns into the real house and setting used in the film in a fade-out-fade-in action. There is silence as we look at the house. We can see that it is secluded from other people and other property and that, in true ghost story fashion, there is a thick mist which lies around the house. Advantages: Innovative modern fiction
Disadvantages: Can be very explicit and violent

...in this collection are Bukowski classics but there are some real gems here. You come away from reading this book with the feeling that you have glimpsed images of a underground, forbidden world that while we all know exists most would not want to ever experience. Bukowski like Henry Miller is an acquired taste and most people either think he is a literary genius or a peddler of violent stylised pornography. This collection gives you a good introduction and a chance to find out which camp you fall into. Be open-minded, prepare to be tested and you will find this a worthwhile experience. Advantages: a diary that spans most of the 20th Century
Disadvantages: Won't appeal to everyone

...In her introduction to Diary of an Ordinary Woman, Margaret Forster explains how she came to edit the diaries of Millicent King which Millicent had kept from 1914 to 1995. She was approached, she tells us, by Joanna, the wife of Millicent’s nephew. Joanna had read some of Forster’s other books, notably Hidden Lives a moving testimony to the (often difficult) lives of Forster’s own mother and grandmother and feels that the author would be able to “ make something” of Millicent’s writings. She also probably feels that Forster because she is something of a social historian, interested in women’s issues and skilled at chronicling “real” lives, would handle the material in a sympathetic way. At first Forster is reluctant to get too involved - she speaks to Millicent - now aged 98; still sprightly but no longer writing her diary... Read review

Advantages: It passed ½ an hour
Disadvantages: Not what it used to be

...of these are chosen each issue. The problem letters appear to have taken somewhat of a back seat too. There are actually only 12 problems answered which is more than a lot of magazines squeeze onto a problem page but these 12 letters are answered over a space of 12 pages. The rest of the space is filled with adverts, “fun” facts, celebrity gossip and the like. And the “astro” problem is a question about whether the reader (a Taurus) will ever get on with her new boss (an Aries). I always thought part of the reason for problem pages was to help others in similar situations but when I read that, my immediate reaction was “Who cares?” Following on from the much slimmed down problem pages is Celebrity Spy, another new addition since I last read New Woman. If you enjoy magazines such as Now and Closer then this is the kind of section that would interest you... Read review

...Woman seem to last for approximately an hour or so before they start to fade and blend in with the middle notes of the perfume. I think that the Bergamont lingers for a lot longer than the other top notes, the Bergamont compliments the floral top notes perfectly and gives the fragrance a more fresher fruitier aroma. The middle notes of Versace Woman last for quite sometime; they last for approximately four hours before they start to blend in with the base notes. The middles notes of the perfume are still quite floral but the floral notes are overpowered and barely visible because of the fresh fruity blends of Plum and raspberry. I think that the Plum and Raspberry gives the middle notes a fresher sweeter and more sophisticated aroma. Men can orgasm quite easily during sex or any other sexual act but most women cannot orgasm through penetration alone and we take a lot longer to climax so most of the time the men our done and were left waiting! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Bodies ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Im not denying that men are selfconcious and vain but in society there is much more pressure on women to look good than men. Very thin or very large women have life made really tough for them. Then theres breasts, firstly men put so much emphasis on them so woman feel selfconcious and then theres all the pictures of women with perfect breasts which makes it even worse. ...I have just finished reading 'The Other Woman', and I had to review this book straight away. Firstly my personal taste in books varies from non-fiction to comedy, trash and history! Having read other books by Jane Green, namely babyville I loved the way she writes and tells her stories, so when I saw 'The Other Woman' I grabbed it without a thought. The story tells the tale of a young lady, her family background, how she meets and falls in love with her soul mate. This is where the story starts and the 'other woman' turms out to be the mother in law to be! The story of the wedding, and the ups and downs of interference and busy bodys, is hilariously told, which includes a factor I love - the one where you can relate to parts of it! ...of marriage, Martha is on a mission to rediscover herself and her youth. Martha is happy to settle for sex, lots of hot steaming, passionate sex, no ties, no trimmings. What does the future hold for these two sisters, about to venture forth in each others shoes? You will have to read the book and find out. I ain't gonna tell you! This is the first book by Adele Parks that I have read and I have to say that I will be queueing up for the next one. The other woman's shoes is a delight to read. Her writing is bold, sometimes shocking but in a fun, quirky way. The humour in this book jumps up and bites you on the bum it is so quick. The characters are strong although I found myself drawn more to the vulnerable, yet enchanting Martha. Her transformation from stylish sheep to sex starved Mrs Confident is a delight to behold.
